Hooking Up A Bose

I have just configured my setup I think the best way it can be setup...

I use PatchMix a virtual mixer on my computer and it allows me to route my audio and mics to two separate Aux buses. I can also point those buses to a particular physical output (which most standard mixers can't do). And by not having a physical output set for the main I can keep my mics and audio separated.

Mics => Aux 1 (with zero return to the main mix) => effects => Physical Out 1/2 => DI Box => Bose Power Stand Input 1 (preset for Shure SM58)

Program => Aux 2 (zero return to the main mix) => Physical Out 3/4 => DI Box => Bose Power Stand Input 2 (Preset 58)

This gives me the most control over sound and live mics more so than just sending the full mix and seems to give the most feedback control as well because as far as the Bose is concerned it assumes I've connected the mics directly to it.

Once I get my second Bose I wont need the DI Box as I will just run 1/4 to xlr directly to each powerstand.

What I like most about this setup is I can use one preset for the music (58) and the Shure setting for the microphone.... this seems to give better sounding vocals over just pushing the entire mix through the preset 58... it overcomes vocals that would have been too boomy because of preset 58 and allows them to cut right through the mix.

So how would you rate the sound now over your previous sound? For the hell of it, and clarity, use percentages to rate it...

Cleaner.... I don't need to EQ my mix as much as I use to... plus feedback is almost completely eliminated and I can turn mics and music up louder than I use to be able to do.

As I mentioned the vocals cut right thru the mix more than ever before so I find myself having to back off the mics for stronger singers like myself... and have no need for compressors on the vocals so far.

The compression and other processing may be an integral part of the L1 design. Cap could tell you more.

This is a very nice feature of the system. Most DJs and other mobile entertainers run mics through mixers along side the PA. So the mics are handled like the rest of the program. Having the option of separate processing just for your vocals is sweet. :)
