Can you throw a few songs at me that would go over well with High School Seniors?

I've got a decent list going now, and wanted to tap your expertise since you guys do these on a regular basis.

Thanks,

Kirby

Kirby take my list posted in gig report for my Prom from a couple weeks ago. Lots of stuff ahead of the game. You might get away with playing the latest Flo Rida- In The Ayer ft Fergie and Wil.i.am

Sexy can I. (trust me on this one)
Take a Bow. (this song is screaming up the charts)
4 minutes (Jt and Madonna) good one to get things started)
The Boss (Rick Ross and T-pain)
Paralyzer (Finger Eleven) good rock style song could be beatmixed out of dance song fairly easily.
Independent From Webbie great base line this will work for sure!

Hope this helps

Hott ones here are:
Camp 22 - Crank Dat' yank
Eve - tambourine
T.I. - Bring em' out
Pitbull feat ying yang - Hit the floor
Pitbull - culo
Elvis crespo - suavemente (I can't believe the response I had to this)
Lil Wayne - Lollipop
Flo Rida - In The Ayer
Ying Yang Twins - Drop
Pitbull & Flo Rida - Move Shake Drop (Great mixer out of Low)
Flo Rida - Low
Cherish Feat (I can't remember) - Killa
Sugar hill Gang - Apache (Don't know how the kids know it, but every son of a beyotch will be out there doing the dance)
Tone Loc - Wild Thing, Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby, and House Of pain - Jump around have been floor fillers for me this year.
Fight for your right to party still works (once again, don't know how they know it)

Thriller..... What can I say, not a huge fan, but that sobee commercial brought that one front and center with the kids... (It's probably in my top 10 requested songs all year... Low was #1)

Sandstorm and or Kernkraft 400 make a nice techno break to switch things up.. my kids won't respond to more than two of these in a row, but two keeps them boppin' full tilt.

still gettin' a huge response out of baby got back, 2 step, walk it out, cupid shuffle, and cha cha slide

On a recommendation from a dj friend, I've also been calling all the seniors to the floor, saying a few words about what a great run they had, and playing "It Ends Tonight" for them... they huddle and hug and dance in big groups and all that crap..., and then at the outro to that song, welcome the Juniors into their new reign as kings of the castle. I then play "We Takin' Over" for them.. I dunno... it's gone over like gangbusters, and even got some senior tears flowin'

I'm all over the place at the prom, because I can't stand all of the 64-76 bpm thug crap that's so popular right now.. you can't dance to it... so even if I can't mix it, I'll slam from one tried and true crowd pleaser to another to keep switching things up...

I found taking this approach instead of trying to seamlessly mix the night away kept my kids on the floor all night..

I didn't play a lot of non danceable requests no matter how popular they were, but the overwhelmingly complimentary text messages I got on the screen, and raves from staff and students alike lead me to believe as we say down here "We done right"

Steve,

So right!

There are no perfect songs for a group of people like high school grads, because everyone has different taste in music.

So you have to hit across the board genre wise to try and please everyone in the room. I found out a long time ago with an open request sheet at school dance, songs requested were across the board and some even blew my mind (when Frank Sinatra pops up in three or four different hand writing styles you really start to wonder)

The seniors pretty much stayed outside all evening and we were stuck with the grade school/jr. high school sqealing girls.:sqeek:

First couple of hours or so, I got by with playing a wide variety of music, mixing the oldies in with newer music as there were a lot of families there. I wanted to make sure that I didn't stick too long in any one style/genre/time-frame and it worked out really well.

Big dance songs of the night..

Cupid Shuffle

Rock Star & Girls Night Out - Miley or Hannah...I can't remember :sqconfused:

Crank Dat (Superman)....Made them wait about 90 minutes before I played it so I wouldn't have to play it again. (I avoid playing this as much as possible.)

Barbie Girl - Aquateens

Wannabe - Spice Girls

Low - Flo something or other..:sqwink:

The Twist - Chubby Checker

Twist and Shout - Beatles

Cha-Cha Slide and The Electric Boogie

and yes, the Chicken Dance..:sqeek::sqerr: (It was a request and I used my favorite version by Brave Combo)

Actually most songs that we played worked, except for Beat It by Michael Jackson, Talk Dirty To Me-Poison, 1984-Bowling For Soup.

Thanks for all the suggestions, the party was Saturday (5/17and we went mostly on requests.

One thing to remember, I/we live in central Illinois so we're not so heavily into the "urban" music. :sqwink: Used a few here and there.

Again, Thanks.....
