JoeChartreuse 05-16-2008, 02:06 AM I have absolutely no firsthand knowledge of anything but small wireless monitors. I kind of like the idea of wireless speakers - a lot. BUT, being the luddite that I am, things come to mind like interference, range problems, SOUND, power, central control, etc.... Also questions like VHF? UHF? The effect of the new frequency allocations?
Can someone please help suppress my Luddite worries? I REALLY like the idea of wireless. Convenience, set up speed, and other great points keep rolling around in my mind....
Convince me! Please? :sqerr::sqconfused:
DJ Cam 05-16-2008, 02:42 AM It's great but it will cost you $1000+ to do it correctly. (For 2 Speakers)
We use a Sennheiser G2 body pack. The body pack goes to the output of the mixer and the microphone receiver goes to the back of the powered speaker.
There may be other ways to do this but it works very well. I know many other people run their speakers wireless the same way.
Ben would be the best person to advise the current most cost effective way of completing this task.
Thunder 05-16-2008, 02:58 AM Or just a simple 5 gigahertz rabbit will do the trick as long as you keep the transmitter and receiver above everyone's heads and in line of sight of each other.
djMarco 05-16-2008, 08:28 AM I heart that some Samson whireless mic thing works too.Sorry i dont know how and which modell.
Wish you luck.
JoeChartreuse 05-16-2008, 04:55 PM Folks, thanks for your replies, but I know HOW. What I need are answers to my worries as stated in my first post?
Thunder 05-16-2008, 05:09 PM Wireless mic/guitar transmitters ansd recievers = short frequency range.
Rabbits = full frequency range but needs sight line to function also subject to micro wave interference.
The Wizard Of OZ 05-16-2008, 05:41 PM Can you elaborate on these "rabbits"? I'm also interested in this. Thanks
Thunder 05-16-2008, 06:26 PM Here are a couple and there are many more with prices all the way up to $3,000

bestdjinfl 05-16-2008, 07:30 PM The phonic wireless system works great I use mine alot so far no issues but who knows after 2/09
Phonic System is the way to go
silver fox 05-16-2008, 09:12 PM Phonic here as well
Ron Auger 05-16-2008, 09:30 PM As I type I am using one at a job. I've got a shure body pack and a JBL eon 10" G2. Gotta run and change songs. See ya.
Bill Kexel 05-17-2008, 02:38 AM Any body pack/wireless mic system should work with a powered speaker.
I use Shure. (make sure its a diversity system.. 2 antennas)
Works perfect.
For those using a microphone body pack system for powered speakers, you might want to look at the frequency response of the system. Some of them may not cover the lows or highs that great, since they are meant for voice. Now if you are using one that can also double as a wireless instrument pack it might not be a problem.
JoeChartreuse 05-17-2008, 02:15 PM Folks, I'm not sure if I'm getting the right info, so I'll clarify. I am asking about using wireless speakers for my audio main speakers, not just announcing. Can anyone furnish a link to the Phonic System? Thanks in advance....

Also check page 1.
Thunder 05-17-2008, 03:41 PM I like the look and function of the phonic system except for the frequency range it operates in. They should produce this one in the gigahertz ranges instead of Megahertz.
I may be mistaken on this subject but I believe that radar operates within the 500 to 700 megahertz range. perhaps that is why this frequency range was chosen and they employed a filter to avoid radar interference. I don't know just rambling thoughts in my head!

Thanks in advance....Joe, if your mixer has booth out or a secondary out then you can use Phonic or a body pack system to make any powered speaker wireless. This will transmit everything you are playing including Mic's. My mixer (Denon X500) I found out last night can send any or all lines to my booth out. This means I can select what I want the wireless speaker to receive. I have limited knowledge and at times I'm a bit mentally deranged but would be happy to assist you. If you need a clearer understanding feel free to call me. :sqerr:

Thanks Ron. Yup, I can do it. I'm actually playing my own devil's advocate and trying to decide if I SHOULD do it, or whether it will be detrimental to the quality of the show...

I also think some older wireless (not cell) phones operate in this range? I KNOW some European UHF mics operate there as well.
That's one of my biggest fears- interference. I have to check the Phonics site to find out if it's multi-channel....
.... and they are 16 channel with adjustible squelch. Hmmm.
So you that have them and like them- Have you EVER run into an interference problem?
Thunder 05-18-2008, 01:51 PM Joe the phonics are multi channel so you may be ok there as well.
