I had rack "ears" made by a friend of mine for the Hercules RMX, and picked up an Odyssey case for this project today. Going to put a wireless mic. in the center rack, and take this little setup on the road Thursday and Friday.

Quick question, what are you using for backup? You running sound into another mixer?

Looks good Steve. I guess that solves the problem of the case we were looking for in Vegas.

Is it just the angle or is the Phone and Mic input blocked? How are you going to plug in the front?

Quick question, what are you using for backup? You running sound into another mixer?

For this weekend, I will be running into another mixer with an entire 2nd laptop ready, for backup. I've been running music videos for about 8 hours so far, with this combo of controller and laptop, into an LCD monitor I use for karaoke, with not even a hint of a problem so far. It's looking good, but yes, I'll be ready "just in case".

Is it just the angle or is the Phone and Mic input blocked? How are you going to plug in the front?

The Mic and Headphone inputs are on the top as well as the front, although you can only use one set. I will use the ones on the top.

One event down, three events to go. Yesterday, for a middle school dance, I brought an entire second cased system as a backup, but didn't need it. (If anyone wants to see the playlist for yesterday, let me know and I'll post it). For tonight, I will downsize my backup system (historic downtown building with no elevator, just stairs). The new case and combo haven't flinched at all, and I've got a new idea on how to have a backup from within the single case, too. I just won a Rane MLM82a that will fit perfectly into the top rack ($120!), along with a wireless mic receiver I mounted this morning, which will fill the 2RU spaces above, 1 each. Instead of going directly into active speakers, I'll send the output of the RMX into the Rane (when it gets here), and the output of the Rane to the speakers. With this, I can add more mics, if needed, and have an ipod tied into a line in of the Rane, as backup.

I wish SKb or Gator made a small plastic case like that. I find the Oddyssey case are heavy....

Funny you should mention that, actually.

As you may recall, I was one of four D.J.s that took the SKB tour that Groovielou set up about a month ago. After seeing the Odyssey case I eventually bought, I called SKB and our tour guide, Cassandra, showing her the case I was looking at, and asking if SKB had something like it. Got a voicemail back, saying that presently they don't, but something like it may be being considered for future product line updates.

Couldnt Odyssey possible make this in an ATA style? That would make it a little bit lighter I think. If not, I know Road Ready definitely can.

While I love them (at least in theory), custom cases are always a lot heavier... on the wallet.
