The prom committee just gave me a song list.
Most of the songs I have, but some I don't.
Has anyone ever heard of "DJ Unk"?

LOL YouTube - DJ UNK- 2 Step (Video) djxpress 05-21-2008, 06:22 PM The prom committee just gave me a song list. Most of the songs I have, but some I don't. Has anyone ever heard of "DJ Unk"? Oh Abbey, Abbey, Abbey! If you don't know who DJ Unk is, shame, shame, shame...lol 1cdj 05-21-2008, 08:38 PM whoosh... Abbey im really really sorry for saying this but if you dont know who unk is school dances may not be your thing. Its really important at this day and time if you do school dances you do a good number of them and keep your ear to the ground with the kids ducking and running but to answer the question DJ Unk does Walk it out, and 2 step, he also has a new song out now and produces a bunch of that "ATL sound" check this out the song in the background is unk http://www.1stcarolinadj.com/walkito...ntal-mitch.mp3 Thunder 05-21-2008, 08:55 PM And Unk is not rap it is a form of GO GO! 1cdj 05-21-2008, 09:03 PM Thunder I was trying not to blow my 999th and 1000th posts for small posts but i gotta say your hipness always amazes me Abbey Lane 05-21-2008, 09:13 PM Gentlemen, our school and teen dances are more into rock, country and dance. How many teens do you know who can actually dance "2-step", not just sing it? Thanks for the info. Remember I'm here to learn! 1cdj 05-21-2008, 09:21 PM what city are you in? You'd be surprised just about every kid here at least attempts it Thunder 05-22-2008, 12:18 AM Thunder I was trying not to blow my 999th and 1000th posts for small posts but i gotta say your hipness always amazes me Well Thanks Kyle, truth is I usta play de clubs!!!!!!!! Jon Tuck 05-22-2008, 01:44 AM and in defense of our thread bearer I know who Unk is and in fact knew it was Gogo like Steve I have not used it much out west as most of the kids havent a clue unless it was UNK le Buck!!! Gaffle 05-22-2008, 06:06 AM If you play DJ Unk, you must play "Walk it Out" and also "2 Step (Remix)" feat. T-Pain. Both are great southern rap dance songs. Jon Tuck 05-22-2008, 06:33 AM Walk It Out got minimal play here. I prefer 2 Step. djsarge 05-22-2008, 08:06 AM Go Go. Rap. It's mostly all junk anyway. Grap. djxpress 05-22-2008, 08:53 AM Go Go. Rap. It's mostly all junk anyway. Grap. Not to sound dis-respectful to you Sarge but, this is the same mindset that alot of parents and school administrators have when it comes time for the kids school dances. We may think that it is crap, but our parents thought our music was crap and the beat will go on to the next generation. School dances are not about playing Little Red Corvette or Word Up. My parents thought that those classics were sending our generation down the cultural drainpipe too. It's a continual generational circle that will never be broken; that's life...thx ...now back to the origional thread-sorry... 1cdj 05-22-2008, 09:16 AM I think sarge was saying its crap he didnt say he didnt play it... its like every time i play honkytonkbadonk i think wtf is this crap... but nonetheless the point of the matter is if you're going to do school dances no matter how old or seasoned you are you need to keep your ears in the school and realize kids arent getting the least bit nicer. Brian B (teen odjt member) helped out on the very very urban prom i did last saturday and he wouldve gotten the crap kicked out of him for playing kiss kiss if it wouldve played a tad bit longer. Papa Deuce 05-22-2008, 09:58 AM This, again, is why I don't do any form of teen dances. And I am A-OK with that decision. trafficgoo 05-22-2008, 10:05 AM This, again, is why I don't do any form of teen dances. And I am A-OK with that decision. I'm with you Papa. I stay away from these. I'll stick to weddings and corporate gigs. DJSAZON1 05-22-2008, 11:19 AM Wow, I cant believe you dont know who DJ UNK is then uyou are in the wrong business. Jeff Romard 05-22-2008, 11:36 AM Wow, I cant believe you dont know who DJ UNK is then uyou are in the wrong business. Thats a little rough. As Abby said in her market rock, country and dance are commonplace And half of these guys are a flash in the pan. Will they be around in 10 years? Probably not...not in this day and age with disposable artists. You're alright Abbey! Jon Tuck 05-22-2008, 11:48 AM I applaud those who wont do certain gigs cause honestly it would be only done for a money grab which would not be fair to the client or the DJs who do it otherwise. Thanks for standing to your beliefs Papa and everyone else who commented. IT reminds me of folks who post in threads they have no business in. djxpress 05-22-2008, 02:03 PM I think sarge was saying its crap he didnt say he didnt play it. HAHA yea as soon as I mixed it in we got loud boos, luckly I had another song queued up or I'd have been screwed. Amazingly it was the only song that happened with. Brian 05-22-2008, 03:10 PM The prom committee just gave me a song list. Most of the songs I have, but some I don't. Has anyone ever heard of "DJ Unk"? Abbey, regardless of the school or area, for most any prom or school event you at least wanna have the most up to date top 40, along with some "classic" top 40 songs. I consider Unk "classic" top 40 because its a song that doesn't fade away after a few weeks, its still played over a year after its release, which in top 40 time is really good. Bryan Durio 05-22-2008, 04:58 PM Has anyone ever heard of "DJ Unk"? I think that's some guy's uncle who is a DJ on the side. A cautionary word is needed here: I think some people in this thread need to realize that like clients, not every Disc Jockey has a taste for cRap or GoGo or anything current. That's why they make chocolate and vanilla. Abbey Lane 05-22-2008, 09:59 PM Gentlemen I thank you for coming to my defense. For those who ask, I have been in this entertainment business longer then some of you have been born. I have played all kinds of events and take a DJ/DJ/Video challenge head on. But, I make sure I do my homework. I listen to all kinds of music (for my market), watch TV shows, study the charts, search on the internet take advice from all kinds of people; clients and others, young and old. (And I go to the Las Vegas Mobile Beat Show.) What basically is said here is that the artist in question has not broken into my market yet, nor has his type of music. It is not mainstream for my clients. (Is "The Hip" or "Upstream Dave" big in your market yet?) To learn more about this artisit I have come to you. Though all is said and done we are brothers and sisters in the entertainment industry. We are here to help each other and I came to you asking the above question because "I am here to learn". Once again, Thanks to everyone for their advice. I am never to old or experienced to learn more. I still consider myself a junior in this field. | |
