Sub Problem...Thoughts

Last night I was doing a school dance when all of a sudden the music fades out, like to power is gone. I see my lappy is working, my mixer is still registering the lappy. I grab my mic to make an announcement and it does not work. I look over and the speakers all have power.

Gear I was using was

Dell laptop running Rock it
Denon DNX 500 mixer
B52 act18x powered sub
2 mackie 450 run on high pouts from the sub
2 yamaha s115v speakers powered by a crest audio amp on full range.

I first checked connection at mixer;
then checked both connection in at sub;
Pulled right input channel of sub and plugged into mackie. It fired up
Pulled the left input channel of sub and placed in right channel yamahas and second mackie fired up. But the sub did nothing (only one connection)

I then reconnected the other mackie into the high out and finished the night.

After the event was over I tried running both cables into lweft and right inputt channel and it would not work. I giggles the left channel and it worked alittle but not much.

Today I set it up and plugged in in and it all ran great. Tried to reproduce it but it could not happen

Thoughts on problem... Possible short in left channel??

That's a possibility. Try duplicating the problem at high SPL if that's possible. You need to run it like you were at the show to find it. It may be an issue with the preamp/crossover in the sub.

Double check your cables, too.

Another possibility could be an AC power issue at the venue. If your lappy top has a backup power supply, it wouldn't be affected by AC line drops. But the rest would.

Thoughts?

are the B52's still quality made in the USA? Ive heard of issues such as this but of course you cant expect much for the price. They exceed their potential in most cases for sure.

Ahhhh..... Want the DJ Cam Theory?

If it gives you trouble, replace it. All of it. Wires, Sub, everything that was part of the problem. Buy 2 you will need the backup.

It's better to spend money and have extra than it is to look dumb.

It does sound like a possible short somewhere. I had one in my mixer the other day. I have no idea how it happened it just did the left side of my stereo channel was louder than the right. Changed wires no help so I changed channels problem was solved. Soulution I need a new mixer.
