Mackie SRM 450 Version 1

are these speakers safe to buy or is the version 1 the model with all the problems that I've read about?

These speakers are on sale new $499.99 each here locally.
I would use them for ceremonies, a monitor,
smaller parties and maybe to fill the sound in a large hall with my larger speakers (Yorkville NX750P's)
However with all the of things I've heard I am hesitant.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

You cant beat the price. The V1 have been around for years. I doubt there are any major issues, but I could be wrong. I am interested in what the others have to say.

I've been using them for going on 6 years now. No problems to speak of.

At that price they are worth it. Just don't drive them too hard, they like to cool themselves off during a packed dance floor every now and then.

I know I've heard. I'll trim the bass on them,
I'll definitely use a sub with them if I get them.
I have an LS700P that would be just right.

hey pal they are the good ones as they are made in USA and Italy with the proper drivers RCF but the new ones as I have stated before made in China are Crap in comparison. Just dont place them where the amp vents are blocked in or over drive them. Thats good advice for any speaker actually but these will run warm.

I never overdrive any speaker. I keep my channel levels at 7 or below and my mixer at no more than 7 too. (0db)
I'm using an Allen & Heath X Zone 62 which is very clean to begin with so I think I should be okay. and this is only if I use them for a small party,
otherwise just ceremonies or a monitor in the DJ Booth with me.

For about 50% more you can get a pair of QSC 121i. Ive been seeing them selling for $1500.00 a pair. I think its better to send a little more money to have better sound and have no worries about them shutting down on you. You can drive the QSC speakers to peaks of 131 db all night long with no problems. For the same money as the Mackie's. You could get a pair of RCF ART 310a. The sound alot better then the mackies and will play louder with no worries about over heating. It maybe just me, but I would never buy anything made by mackie anymore.

A pair of RCF ART 310a will cost you 1200.00 (with covers) plus shipping.
Money well spend and they are very light.

If you really want a step up 2-RCF-322A's can be had for around $1900 with covers IMHO you won't find a better pair of powered speakers under $2500 than these

I own two pairs of 450s and I have had one replaced! Great speakers, will invest in more asaigmm. As soon as I get more money...=)

For that low price, I'd recommend them. I actually experienced the guys at Sam Ash put the SRM450v2 out the box and it died upon 1st playing it. The quality on the v2's seems chincy. Even the contour button on the back feels cheaper.

The SRM450 v1s are great without subs for smaller house parties and events. In loud situations, get that sub and use the cutoff.
