Well, if anyone has thought about the usefulness or, “worth” of buying a Hum-X from Ebtech, maybe this little story will swing you into spending the $59 for one…

Last night’s wedding was a wedding for a couple of friends and co-workers that was a long time in the planning process…based on their love story, they met 14 years ago & yesterday, they finally said “I Do” in front of 150 of their closest friends & family. I was honored when I was asked last year to be their spokesperson, I mean DJ. :) I quoted my rate & the B2B was totally fine with this – It was my first $2000 wedding.

Anyway, we had done our site visit prior to yesterday & everything looked great. When we got there yesterday, setup was going ok – granted it was 95F with a humidity factor of ‘WTF’. As I plug in the first Bose power stand, no problem. Then I plug in the second one setup on the other side of the room (separate outlet) & then it started – an ungodly hum…WTF???? Ok, so into the tool box I go & break out the Hum-X that I just bought on Memorial Day. SILENCE!!! :D I don’t know how it was working, but I know that it did. The proof was in the results. I’ll never leave home to do a once-in-a lifetime event without it again.

So yes, as I thought about it this morning, a $59 investment saved a $2000 event. I guess I should say I’m glad I listened to my wife…:D (She was the one who said "Buy it, you never know if you'll need it"). Luv ya honey!

Cheers,

Joe

I love my two Hum-X magic boxes! I use one for my laptop in my DJ system and the other on my Bryston amp in my home system. They work, and they work safely. That's all you need to know.

Knock on wood as I've never had a hum problem to date... but this just tells me you never know.... I plug almost everything into my Furman which employs EMI and RFI suppression but, until very recently my speakers weren't powered and now I have the Bose so I think it's time to think or rather get some sort of power conditioner/Hum-x type device.

I had a horrific hum last night...tried the hum x in a number of places...did zippo......Turns out it was my AT 1252 receiver, which I have mounted in my rack....pull on the place; the hum would stop.....push on it; I'd get static and hum, as if the reciver made the amp rails "live"

Can anyone comment on this?

It even shorted out my Co Pilot; I had to unplug it and plug it back in....

Anytime you plug a sound system into a separate circuit you always have the possibility of hum around 60hz.

Side Bar:
Some local sound guys and I joke anytime we hear AC hum, we are like is that 60? were reply "nah, more like 61, 62).
