I'm fairly happy with my Tucson purchase.. I can get my wedding rig into the back of the Tucson.. 2x Mackie SRM450's, 1x SWA1501 Sub, 1 Mixercase, 2 Racks of Lights, 4x Ultimate Stands, 1 tub of cords, 1 tub of party stuff and a few minor things.. Its a tight fit but it saves a little on gas when a little travel is required.
I usually use the trailer for school dances (unless its a wedding that requires additional sound or a ceremony setup). The trailer is nice though.. just have to go to a few extra measures to protect some of the equipment..
jfactor1 11-11-2006, 03:28 PM Earlier this year, I was thinking about downsizing. So I put everything back in my old Grundorf cases. I was able to fit my entire sound system in my Focus. It was pretty nice getting 30MPG instead of 12MPG with my Jeep pulling the trailer.

DJ_Marek 11-11-2006, 03:38 PM Jay.. Its funny that you posted those pics right after mine.. As i was uploading the pictures of the Tucson it made me think of the car I had before that.. It hauled my wedding rig just fine.. :)

DJ_Marek 11-11-2006, 03:52 PM Wow Mike! Nice trailer! Do you have a shot of it with your equipment inside?
Also if Jason (Galactic) has a chance to swing by the forum.. I really wanna see his method of transportation..
Fred Stewart 11-11-2006, 05:13 PM We're able to pack the system in a Chevy Astro cargo van. Been doing this for a few years now with no problems. That includes the full monty (if needed) and the big, honkin' 2-wheeler handtruck.
Tyrone Blue 11-11-2006, 08:21 PM And it will pull anything you hook to it. Here's a picture of my 5th wheel on the gunflint trail...
I used to use the IH semi tractor, but it was so damn bumpy... The Ford is much nicer...
Oh, BTW... in the back of the trailer, there is an 8 X 10 garage with a ramp out the back. It will hold ALL of my gear... can you say "road trip"? I think I'll take it to Hawaii to see chuck.

jfactor1 11-11-2006, 09:35 PM The reason I asked is that I work at a Ford dealer during the day. I know they have lots of problems with the 6.0L. Either you get a good one that never gives you any problems, or you're in the shop once a month :(.
BTW, if you ever need anything for that beast, let me know (I can hook you up pretty good :) )

I've often thought about that, too . . .
Considering that I have the entire Star Trek movie collection on store-bought video tape and DVD! :sqembarrassed:
Plus . . . I have three entire Star Trek TV series on video tape (that I taped myself off of TV) . . .
Uh oh! . . . here comes the RIAA!
Anyway, DJ's of the future will have it made . . .
Just leave their iPods hooked up to their mixer board and powered computer speakers (that will blow away anything huge that we have nowadaze), and just transport in with everything wired up! :sqcool:
Two seconds before show time!
Of course, they'll probably still charge the 1985 equivalent of $250 per gig! :sqerr:
Can you imagine just leaving our systems always set up on the tables, all wired up and just transporting in?
No sweating . . . hauling and lugging up stairs . . . worrying about being jumped at 1:30 a.m.!
And not having to drive home in the after-bar-hours traffic on a Saturday night! :sqconfused:
Jon Tuck 11-12-2006, 08:06 PM John perhaps we will stay at home but send our holigram to the event site.

but from time to time i do use my car, i can fit a small wedding package in here lol (my console in the front seat, 2 small speakers be hided me and a few lights and the laptop in the back)
i tried to find some pix of it but i can't so next time I'll take some more

.....
Holy smokes! How many trips do you take with a 16' cube? We used to have a 16' cube for our small system, but the cube + trailer was too much work, and not enough space. We nearly fill the 53' semi trailer with the big DJ system, and are constantly pushed for space on production work! (leaving today for a conference; a/v for a fairly small conference is using up all the space!) Get yourself a semi!!

How do you like that HHR? I really like that "retro" look. Has it been pretty reliable (so far)?
We have considered one of these as our third vehicle to do our runnning around in, as our Taurus will probably go to our teenager next year.
Give us the Car and Driver review!
Thanks!

It's great. I have the 2.2. They also come with a 2.4. I drive a lot throughout the island so I needed something I can haul my equipment with and not waste a lot of gas. I was interested in the Tuscon but I was sold when I saw the HHR. The front passenger seat folds and there is a compartment in the back where the spare tire is to put a few things in.

Doesn't the idea of a 10 foot tall Ryder billboard make you feel a tad off? Realize it's a big investment for a vehicle - but isn't that part of the professional service? So you know you'll be ready to play ontime?
I've had problems where the the rental company just didn't have the truck when I needed it - even with 4 weeks notice.

djrox 12-19-2006, 10:58 AM OK Ed,
Regarding Caps trailer, what do you think is cooler, Cap's obvious attention and appreciation of organization and detail OR the 70's era prism tape lettering above the door? Groovy, huh?
I Knew it! Despite his embracing of contemporary Bose technology, I knew Capello had some old school running through his veins.
I bet somewhere in that trailer he's hiding and a pair of old Ampeg boxes (the giant 3 ton, widow maker model) or an old Mixman Disco mixer.:sqwink:

Cap . . .
I like your Durango and trailer combo . . . especially the matching colors!
I really like that body style of the Durango (much better than the new look) and almost bought one instead of my current Dodge Ram.
Even though they have the same engine and towing capacity, I drove one home and backed it up to my camper and decided the camper was just too big (physically) for the Durango.
Our camper is an older model (1978 Coachman Cadet 24 1/2 foot) and weighs 4500 lbs., so it is a big heavy beast compared to todays ultra lite's (thats what they call them these days), so I felt that I needed a bigger footprint to pull it with.

What brand of trailer is that? Are those tie-down eyes I see on the walls? Where did you get those bars you have across the width holding in the gear?
I'm going to the local dealer Saturday to pick out trailer. Have looked at the Pace Americans online, they look nice. But I don't know much of anything about trailers, except I want to put it in my Garage, so it can't be any higher then my garage door. Other than that .... nothing

Kirby Ball 04-21-2007, 07:25 PM We were out today running some errands and dropping off some "hazardous wastes" at an EPA sponsored site at the fairgrounds and we received a phone call from one of my neices while we were on our way to Menard's to get some paint.
She told us that some guy was selling a trailer and she thought we might be interested. We were less than a mile away from the the yard sale, so we thought we would go over there and take a look......
Talked to the guy that owned it and he had originally bought it for his grandson to haul band equipment. His grandson used it 3 times, then quit the band and decided that he would go to college. Grandpa has had it sitting for about a year and decided to get rid of it.
It's a 5X8 and carpeted on the inside. It's in extremely good condition inside and out.
He let it go for $1350.00, so we wrote a check and it's parked in the garage right now, just waiting to get new plates and added to our insurance.
cbarronx23 04-21-2007, 07:26 PM Congrats Kirby.

Well so far....dads..chev!

Well......thats why I have been asking what speakers will make that thing "rock!"
Currently I know my srm450s will work for tops....but now I need to find my bottom end!
As far as lights.....
I have decided on the setup....
One awning is 10ft.....
So
Intimidator 2.0 HTI Color changer Intimidator 2.0 Color Changer Inti 2.0
Second Awning will just be reversed....
Intimidator 2.0 Color changer Intimidator 2.0 Color Changer Itimi 2.0 HTI
I am going to put the HTIs on the ends...since the middles wont make that huge of a difference!
I already own two 2.0's....and they seem to be just as bright...if not brighter than the HTI's!
Yea...I am hoping to eventually have "one bad ass" outdoor party on wheels!
I also have 100 folding chairs, and 10 folding tables...and three outdoor tents...(like the last pic)...to enhance the Outdoor experience!!
I am going to love "rocking out in this thing"
knardini 07-29-2007, 03:46 PM I'm finally going to buy a trailer next week and have been learning as much as possible to make sure I get what I need for the long "haul". Here's what I've learned:
Nardini's Top 5 Trailer Traits
1. Suspension - With $40,000 worth of gear I needed to make sure I wasn't bouncing it down the highway every weekend. The upgrade to a torsion (independent) suspension will provide a smoother tow and ride for your gear. A spring suspension tends to bounce the whole trailer over bumps, torsion not so much.
2. Radial tires. Better than your typical trailer tires, smoother ride...more durable.
3. Interior mounted spare. For obvious reasons.
4. Length doesn't always mean tons heavier. I was set on buying a 6 X 10 trailer because the actual interior lenght was 10'4" which was long enought from my sticks of trussing just barely and wanted to keep the weight down. Found out that a 12' trailer only weighs 100 lbs more and only costs $150 more than the 10 footer.
5. Rear ramp door. I'm done picking up my gear. Everything is being put into a rolling case or strapped to a 4 wheel cart. I'm only 32, but my backs already feeling the stress of the job.
For the time being I'm towing this with a 2007 Honda Odyssey. The Honda dealer suggested adding a transmission AND power stearing cooler to make sure my van is protected. I called a big transmission place and asked them about addding a transmission cooler and he said in 20 years he's never done that and my vans stock cooling system should do the job fine? Still on the fence about that one. I may wait and fully load the trailer and see how the van responds. Most of my gigs will be 1/2 loaded.
musicdoctordj 07-31-2007, 12:36 PM Get the tranny cooler . . .
Your vehicle will thank you for it (and so will your wallet down the road).
That being said, I think that you might need a bigger vehicle to haul that big trailer with!
I don't believe that minivans are designed for pulling big, heavy trailers . . .
jfactor1 07-31-2007, 12:40 PM Definitely add the tranny cooler. They're about $100-$150 (plus installation) and available at pretty much any Car Quest, Auto Zone, Pep Boys, etc.
knardini 07-31-2007, 01:54 PM thanks for the advice on the coolers, I came to the same relization as I did more research. My van is actually at the dealer as we speak getting the whole tow package (transmission cooler, power stearing cooler, air duct re-router and hitch). The whole thing is costing me $1200, but it's being done at the dealer and is totally covered by all my warranty stuff. The van only has 9,000 miles on it so I have a long converage life.
I wish I had a big truck to tow with but in doing a lot of research I found that the Honda vans are rated the top van to tow with, and are rated up to 3500 towing with the complete tow package installed. I actually came across a Honda forum that talked about a large group of people towing large 4000lbs camping trailers through the mountains with no problems at all.
We live in KC but have family in Omaha NE and Northern Iowa so I'm planning to do a little marketing in both areas and get some paid visits back by working a wedding while were there. With a trailer towed by a minivan I'll be able to haul all my gear plus my wife and 4 kids no problem.
I'll post pics next week with my little van and big trailer :sqwink:
musicdoctordj 07-31-2007, 02:13 PM Tow ratings are not all they are cracked up to be.
It is not just about how much weight the vehicle can pull . . . but also the size of the trailer vs. the tow vehicle.
After my van got totalled in a rear ender and I was out shopping for a new vehicle I was thinking about getting a Dodge Durango.
While I was out test driving one I drove it home and backed it up to my camper.
As I stood there looking at the two of them I realized that, even though the Durnago was rated to tow it, it just was too small (physically) of a vehicle and I would not feel safe driving the combo.
I bought a full sized Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 instead, which I should add has the same engine and tow rating that the Durangos have.

I see people pulling camper trailers up in the mountains all the time with small vehicles (minivans, Jeep Libertys, Dodge Durangos, etc.) that shouldn't be even attempting the haul with those smaller cars . . . especially in the mountains!
And, as you can guess, I've seen many of them flipped over in the median due to either inexperience in towing a trailer, too small of a tow vehicle, or both.
I would also suggest that you consider getting a tortion bar setup . . . this will help stabilize the tow and also helps keep the trailer from swaying.
However, if your minivan has a unibody (which it most likely has), the tortion bar setup may not work.
knardini 07-31-2007, 02:41 PM I guess I'll have to get by with what I can realisically afford right now. I just made a substantial investment in sound and lighting and this seems like a logical fix, plus even fully loaded I will only be pulling 2000lbs (much less than a camper or boat which other Odyssey owners claim to tow without a problem) which seems like a manageable amount. I did upgrade to the pro series trailer which is supposed to help with ease of tow. In a perfect world I'd have a big ol' Ford 350 or something towing this thing around, but since I will only use the trailer for my large gigs (about once a month) I think I'll be okay....only time will tell.

3 times a month now that you've upgraded to infinity and beyond.....
Kevin Nichols 07-31-2007, 05:01 PM My brother in law had a Pontiac Montana that they put the tow package on and was pulling a pop up camper. They found out soon that the actual frame was cracking where the hitch was attached. Just be careful!! Check out your setup everytime you take it out.
DJ SVO 07-31-2007, 05:43 PM Kris,
There's another thing, with front wheel drive vehicles you need to be a little bit more cautious while towing specially when the trailer is at full capacity. The upgrades that are being done are perfect but, you need to keep an eye on your transmission fluid looking pro debris or junk. From what I've seen FWD cars are not that durable when towing heavy trailers.
The 100,000 mile tune up interval is not realistic. With a relatively high compression engine (10.0:1) even if it's an aluminum engine I would recommend using Premium fuel, specially while towing, and remember to turn the overdrive off. If you don't the transmission will RIP sooner than expected.
DJ SVO 07-31-2007, 05:50 PM Another disadvantage of FWD and using the wrong vehicle for the job :D:D:D

DJ JohnThe1 07-31-2007, 06:49 PM Trailers are really nice to have for the larger set up's. I just think a cargo van is a safer way to go.
Good luck with the new trailer Knardini.

sparkieg 01-07-2008, 02:13 PM I've been looking for this pic for a while and finally found it. This is how I get to the gig - 2003 Ford F150 (5.6 Litre V-8 with towing package) and a 5 x 13 foot low rider trailer. (after they were washed of course! :sqwink:)
Party On! 02-26-2008, 07:58 AM please notice the "cool " plates...never had a problem with theft....alarms certainly help...as well as good friends in the neighborhood. I've received many calls for jobs from this advertising.....van also has hydraulic elevator and lost of room inside....
