Tom is that Roonie G off of Club DJ Zone? I remember him from years ago, he's from Texas and I think he got sick or something and dropped off the face of the DJ scene for a while. After that I think he was making a come back but that was a few years ago.

Dan:

I am not sure about Club DJ Zone.

I meet Roonie back in 2004. He's a spokesman for Pioneer.

you know, everyone who's not into video mixing thinks roonie is so cool...

Roonie used to be the man back in the day, but he's obviously lost his desire, or edge, or whatever, as anyone who saw his sorry sorry sets in Atlantic city will attest... he thinks he's all hollywood, but most of the people standing and watching him at the pioneer booth said the same thing.... "This guy's lame!"

you'll notice the older mixes were at least coherent... the new ones are all pretty weak... it's all movie clips, and scratching home movies... where's the mixing???

My Man DJ 2nd Nature from here in Atlanta wiped the floor with him..

check out his live dj expo set here... http://www.dj2ndnature.com/site/Podcast/Entries/2008/8/21_DJ_Expo_2008_set.html

Watching roonie is like watching paint dry... he moves his hands maybe twice... once to start his pre-mixed DVD, and once to stop it...

It was funny watching him during his live performance... he was squatting down behind the booth screwing with something, yet his video mix was mixing and scratching all by itself....

His old mixes were at least creative... he barely even mixes in his newer sets...

2ND nature is quickly becoming Pioneer's new Golden Boy.

I know video mixing is 90 percent pre-production, but year after year, roonie is getting less and less impressive..

I'm with Steve on this one as well. Roonie's a nice guy, but once you see him perform more than once at a DJ Expo you know that everything he's showing you is pre-mixed, right down to the home movies where his daughter's yelling "DJ Roonie G Rocks!". Looks like a scratch, sounds like a scratch... but it's a pre-recorded and precisely edited scratch.

To his credit, Roonie's pretty creative when editing his source material. Plus, he's figured out how to be successful with his video mixing - travel all over the country to different clubs for limited-time engagements, or go to Las Vegas, where you can stay in one place and entertain a different crowd every single night.

The cat's been around forever and is STILL one of my favorites!

I remember in the good old days of 94-98. He put out some great remixes on XMIX when I was spinnin at the clubs.

I have nothing against him personally, so I'm not crapping on him or his creativity, I give the roon-man props for what he's done, but he's just been surpassed by a few really good VJ's who granted, he may have laid the groundwork for.

I've spoken to him several times, and he just seems to have let the whole "I'm Roonie G" thing go to his head... He's just not hungry anymore...

The last 3 times I saw him, he was sloppy, and unimaginative... everything is a hard cut.. virtually no mixing involved at all...

But maybe a fat pioneer sponsorship will do that to ya! :)

I seen Roonie at a music store here in the city about 2 years ago. I just can't get into the chopping and cutting concept of videos. I guess I'm getting old. I enjoy it when a DJ will let the songs play and then beatmix into the next song/video with some cool effects on the screen.
2nd Nature's work is really good though.

I've always been amazed by his work, but then I was there at DJ Times this year (as Steve mentions) when he couldn't find one of his discs and basically let the "mix" go for a good 5 minutes. Now I have nothing against pre-mixing, hell it only makes sense with some of the stuff they pull off...but after that you couldn't help but notice that he basically just scratchs his pre-mixes. Still impressive, but...

I took a look at the first five minutes of SecondNature's video. Sorry, disgusted and offended. But, that's just me.
