DJ Dan 07-14-2008, 07:02 PM One thing that I've taken note of while browsing numerous DJ's business websites is not a whole lot have an "areas we service" page and I wonder why?
Surely if you live in Podunk, Iowa you don't just service Podunk, Iowa you must service surrounding towns and or counties.
Is a question of you want to qualify the lead before you tell them you don't service their area ie if it's a good paying gig you might expand your service area for that gig?
I wonder why especially with the SEO value of listing specific towns and counties on your website that it's not done more often.
DJ Cam 07-14-2008, 07:08 PM I don't have areas I service. I will go anywhere for the right amount of $$.
trafficgoo 07-14-2008, 07:09 PM We had to throw that on our website for the fact that we were getting inquiries from out of state. We're listed on a few national websites...that would be the reason.
I will travel to where someone wants me, for mileage and hotel. I've driven about 200 miles to a job, included hotel, meals, mileage, and my fee.
Request Line Productions 07-14-2008, 08:20 PM I like to keep my options open. I don't usually travel south of Boston due to traffic issues. No amount of money will get me in a traffic jam worried about being there on time. However, I do have a list of similar DJs that I refer people to and I want to give them the opportunity of the next best thing. (LOL)
Four years ago, I was flown out to Oahu for a wedding by a couple that had attended one of my events. So, you never know.
.
ou812 07-14-2008, 08:26 PM I should put this on my website, as that is a good point Dan.
However, it should be noted, I have flown to the midwest multiple times to be the dj, as well as driven more than 250 miles. These have been either good friends, family, or paid very well.
sparkieg 07-15-2008, 03:29 AM I guess it's mainly because I don't wish to travel more than 2 hours one way from home base. I like where I am business wise and the venues I play regularly.
Of course, I suppose I might consider stepping outside my comfort zone if the money was right. The situation would have to be right though.
I know - I'm getting old.........and set in my ways.........
Cesar 07-15-2008, 03:32 AM Aren't we all.................Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
mysoulishome 07-15-2008, 05:39 PM I think this is an excellent point. Sure, you'll travel anywhere if paid enough...but buyer's want to hire a "local" DJ...or even more importantly...what is the service area that you don't charge extra to travel to?
I just took a screenshot of google maps and made a map for my service area...this is all within 1.5 hours of me, so I don't need to charge extra for driving in these locations...

Wavy Davy 07-15-2008, 06:41 PM Your service are should be on your website without a doubt - who knows where you will or will not go unless you tell them?
How will they find you on the www without an area?
So Cal Hugh 07-15-2008, 07:29 PM Hey Aaron!
I have DJ'd in Kennedy Meadows. Not too far out of your Ridgecrest limit.
I go anywhere for the right situation. I have traded service for the right vacation opportunities in the past. Kind of liked it!
jokerswild 07-15-2008, 09:04 PM Not a bad idea really
I just added one to mine... www.totalimpactdjs.com/Service_Area
DjDennis 09-02-2008, 11:34 AM lol only 1.5hrs
gee if you see how big an area I would cover you would SCREAM
up to 3,000km and more
I know how far away the place is and how far it will take to get there
I have what they call a Distance Book that is a book from the Main roads Dept in my State (sells for $20.00) and lasts for years
now with GPS its even better it even tells me how long left before I am at the location
so give me a town I may have already been there in my State of Western Australia
Mr. K 09-02-2008, 11:46 AM A real DJ once told me that listing the areas which you service is an act of desperation. :p
sirdj 09-02-2008, 07:52 PM I've had my service areas listed since 2002, for me it pre qualifies people before they call or contact me.
Michigan DJ 10-20-2008, 05:27 PM I have my service areas listed so that google finds it when brides type in a search for djs in a certain area.
:sqmad:
I grow weary of people that are so judgemental about what others do and bash them for it. Using terms like "desperate" for doing something as simple as telling a potential client that you do NOT service areas hundreds or thousands of miles away.
:sqmad:
I'll get off the soapbox now...
Chuck The DJ 10-20-2008, 05:32 PM I get weary of people who get weary about people who do things and get weary and then I have to have a Mai Tai! LOL :)
Ron Auger 10-20-2008, 11:46 PM I like to keep my options open. I don't usually travel south of Boston due to traffic issues. .Same reason just the opposite. I don't like traveling into Boston. I think the only wedding I've done in Boston was last month at the Hyatt Harborside next to Logan. I turned one down for the Copley Plaza for next year.
why are all these summer threads getting bumped?
Randy A 10-21-2008, 08:46 AM why are all these summer threads getting bumped?
Why ask why? :sqwink:
Ron Auger 10-21-2008, 09:01 AM Why? Because we like you!:sqlaugh:
sparkieg 10-21-2008, 11:30 AM The reason these and several other threads are getting bumped?
BECAUSE WE CAN!
Wavy Davy 10-21-2008, 09:07 PM Area served can - if correctly integrated into your website can be a WONDERFUL way to get Google to rank you higher - Mark Miwurdz ;)
