Advertising in the weekly church bulletin?

Anybody do it? Do you get a decent ROI?

I've thought about it.
At the time I was also a Lector at my church so I thought that might add to the recongition/comfort factor. However the cost of those little boxes adds up when you want a decent size ad.
I'm still considering it, so I too am curious to see what others say.

thought about it but haven't done it. we do advertise in one of the local synagogue's member directory with incredible ROI

I'm sure most of you realize I love non-traditional advertising

See, the people I met swear you ( I would ) get an incredible ROI.... but the minimum is $10 a week with a 26 week minimum.

Papa,

It would only work IF you go to church.

Dave

ps. Just bustin'. Your question is not a bad one, it's an interesting prop.

I would get nothing, then.... :sqerr:

I've said it before - Churches always want free or cheap even the wealthy ones.

I'd rather do a freebie for homeless people or vets

I advertised in the bulletins of two churches for over a year. $600 down the drain.

Wouldn't be something that I'd be interested in as I prefer to be hired by heathens and they usually don't go to church. :sqwink:

I gave it some thought a few years back but I decided not to do it. Churches usually stick to their own people when it comes to any type service needs. Someone in the congregation will know a DJ, Plumber, accountant etc.. We have a few DJ's at my Church. We just target the couples that are getting married at the Church.

The first thing I would want to know is how many people attend that church on a regular basis and a basic breakdown of the demographic. If they couldn't give me those numbers I would be taking communion before I bought in just to find out.

I know in my area the biggest demographic in the church going crowd is 50+ and although there might be some potential there but it would be small.

The other side of the coin is it's cheap advertising and can help name recognition and that is really something you can't directly calculate ROI on because it pays off in the future

Papa,

Upon reflection, I'd stay away. Just imagine during negotiations for a major wedding that Mom or Dad lays the "WWJD" comeback on you. "J would do it for free, or at least he'd offer a MAJOR discount!" See what I mean...no win.

Jesus would take the water and turn it in to wine also but I don't have that ability either :sqerr::sqwink:

ok we have a diamond vision digital billboard over a main road here in Greensboro I want to try a sign idea for it but what do you think

I want the graphic to be blacked out and in ORANGE highway sign letters

**PARTY ALERT**
and then the call to action
would go here
like an amber or silver alert

good and topical or in bad taste?

My wife worked for the company that did the advertising and printing of church bulletins. And she said it was a waste of time and money. People would call every day to try to get out of their contract. Plus at the end of the 12 months your contract automatically renews unless you give 2 months notice in writing before your 12 months expire. People never read the whole contract. I could go on and tell you some of stories my wife heared.

My WIFE is actually nagging me to do this. Not sure exactly why.

So, today I will start an ad campaign with them..... it goes against my better wishes, but sometimes you have to do what your wife asks.

Anyway, the salesman did provide some interesting info to me on the phone and said that he will have proof of this when we meet later today. He said that 89% of the folks that are in the current bulletin are now in their 3rd year or more. He also said that in the parish next to ours, the rate is less than 50%. We live in a far more affluent parish, it seems.

I'll pay by check. No way would I give them a CC so they can auto-bill me. Taking a double sized ad. There is no "set-up" fee, and I can change my ad every 2 months for no charge.

So, I will be rotating ads.... Starting with my wedding business, then changing to bubble party in February, and then retro parties in May or June, then back to weddings / corporate in the fall.

The salesman also said that I will be the only DJ allowed in the bulletin for as long as I am an advertiser.

Honestly, I don't want to do this, but for some reason my wife thinks it should be tried, so I will try it.

Fingers crossed.

If I was the kind to take offense, I would take offense to that. But I am not the overly sensitive type.

I think the technical term is "non-profit organization" although the money that passes through can be as much as with a small business.

Papa,

The overarching part of this is the perceived "good will" that people will get from you. Your business is supporting the church. That's always good.

How about this for the ad:

"When you want to make a joyful noise" call.......

Mike - don't get me wrong....I'm a Christian; I talk to God all the time. I was raised Roman Catholic....

Look at that church specifically...look at the hierarchy in the Vatican. Tell me that's not a "for profit" business.

To be close to God and Jesus....one doesn't need a million dollar building....or organized religion...

You just need to reach out.....

I am with you on some of it. My current church meets in an elementary school. Although I do believe in organized religion (the church was established for a reason), I also believe some of the organization is useless and ultimately harmful.

Catholicism is a different beast all together. Although some Protestant churches look upon it as a business, and even talk about it in business terms, I think that is where things go horribly wrong.
