Fred Stewart 08-09-2008, 06:49 PM Folks,
Taking a lead from Sarge's thread about GL, I thought I'd start a thread to ask who underwrites your GL policy and how much it costs your company per fiscal year.
This could be a great resource for people who are new to the biz. Feel free to provide links to insurance carriers' sites if needed.
Your thoughts are appreciated. :)
Valerie Ruste 08-09-2008, 09:37 PM We buy our liability from a local agent; American Family. We could get cheaper through an organization like ADJA but I am more confident in this coverage, and like having an agent right here to get me certificates for clients, and to go to bat for us in case of a claim. We spend about $1000 a year on liability and almost as much again on equipment (though on equipment we are probably a little underinsured right now).
trafficgoo 08-09-2008, 10:30 PM We use RVNuccio through the ADJA. Both my liablility and equipment coverage is covered.
Travelers through good old Art Bradlee
sparkieg 08-13-2008, 01:05 AM Zurich International. My premium is somewhere in the neighborhood of $800 a year. Attached is the aggregate page from my policy booklet.
Here is the link to that page on my website:

Is equipment covered in there and what are the terms for equipment?
sparkieg 08-13-2008, 01:18 AM All equipment is covered enroute to gigs, and the policy includes provisions for flood insurance, theft, fire, etc. as well as all medical payments to others, liability insurance, etc.
It's pretty much an all inclusive policy, and reminds me of my home owners insurance policy.

Just to clarify; Greg has posted the liability declarations page...Greg I'm assuming that you have a property policy or floater other than this?
Cap Capello 08-13-2008, 10:34 AM NAME policy through HRH.
Personally reviewed quite a few (Traveler's, The Hartford, ADJA, WeDJ, and NAME), first on paper, then made some calls on a few "what if's" and "how to's".
HRH with its built-in automatic facility coverage as co-named insured and some home/office coverages the others don't address at all, made them the clear choice for me in terms of being a solo-op and home/office type business.
NAME membership required. $99/year HRH insurance at $175/year for the first system; $60/year each additional system (if multi-op).
I also have their equipment insurance which is basically $1 per $100 value. That seems to be industry average. Where HRH is a bit more lenient than others, they allow up to 30 days to get a new piece added to the policy yet still be covered. It's like having coverage even during an evaluation period should I decide not to keep the piece and return it. Nice feeling and great idea from the HRH people.
WeDJie World policy: $170
Same policy that NAME used prior to 2006, through Lou at Commercial Brokerage.
you only need to pay $40 for a Bronze level membership. I choose Silver ($100) because you get the Gigbuilder (client relationship management - CRM) for FREE.
For LESS than I used to pay for association membership + GL (150 + 210 = $360),
I now get my GL and CRM for $270 per year

Yes indeed. The page I shared pretty much gives an overview of the liability clauses and what is covered since that's what Fred's original question centered around. He asked - I answered.
I could always share other pages from my policy booklet if anyone asked, to show what else was covered, but the policy booklet is so thick and there are so many clauses that are "insurance-speak", that you would wind up explaining to everyone what those clauses meant, and the .jpeg files I would have to upload here would be so convoluted, that they would eat up unnecessary bandwidth.
