Free sites, paid sites, or what?
Please be more specific.....what type of site? Blog or web site? Domain or free page at geocities/tripod?
I will give you the basics, but Wavy Davy can fill in the holes:
1) Yahoo Directory ($299 per year). The one listing that will probably be the equivalent of 1000 inbound links, because of the Page Rank of 9.
2) DMOZ "Open Directory Project". FREE but don't expect overnight miracles, because the editors take their sweet time approving your listing (PR 7)
3) WEDJ.com. ($100 for Silver Listing) produces about 500 external links, according to Yahoo/Google diagnostics. (PR 6)
4) WedExperts.com ($100 for Silver Listing) same link juice as WeDJ, but on a different server and different domain. (PR 5)
5) Linked In
6) Yelp
7) Merchant Circle
8) Insider Pages
9) City Search
10) Naymz
11) Facebook (business profile page)
12) Hot Frog
13) City Voter (they are based in Cambridge MA, so it should have a "Boston" page)
14) Kijiji (formerly known as "Gumtree- Boston")
15) Craigslist (only if the posting limit is 30 days or more)
16) Social bookmarking sites (Digg, Del.icio.us, Technorati, StumbleUpon, Sphinn, etc)
17) Meetup.com
18) Yahoo Local
19) Google Maps
20) Gig Salad
21) Gathering Guide
22) Eventective
23) Kudzu
24) AboutUs.com
there are more.........many many more........too many to list every single one.
(DJ + MC + Sacramento) in Google *should* unearth the rest.
Happy digging!
