i have some on my flickr site... I'm doing a few gigs in a few months and that's when i plan on showcasing my new setup, with the laptop. The former setup contained a 4U P4 system with a 17" LCD Monitor. This way I can be seen over the crowd easier.

My Setup:

Two Yamaha BR15 Speakers with stands
One QSC MX-700 Amp
One QSC RMX-850 amp (will be used to power tuba 24 when finished)
Pyle PYD1910 4 channel mixer
Gemini CD-9500 PRO II dual cd player
"On Stage" lighting truss, 10' truss with tripods on each side.
8x Par 38 colored cans
Chauvet 4 channel lighting controller
Dell C840 Laptop with wireless
iPod mini 4gb
2x 15' blacklights
12' disco ball and spots

Its taken me around 2 years of cutting grass to work up to this. I am currently building a Tuba 24 sub, and will use a Rane Crossover and the RMX-850 amp to power it. Future upgrades include a new dual CD player, and a Denon 4 channel mixer. Also an SKB 8U roto rack for the amps and lighting switches. Currently its all mounted in the SKB DJ Capsule.

By the way, Brian B, how did you afford all that stuff at 13? Thats a truly awsome setup for your age.:sqwink:

this is one from a company party that I did, that I posted somewhere else,, but I used to call it my Club System when I was doing schools...

Those two fixtures on the two far sides of the trussing are actually the DJ Spot 250's from American DJ. 250Watt Bulb which gives plenty of light and the moving heads really look cool when ran in a hazed gym. I program all of them with the Show XPress software from Chauvet.. Had the two fixtures since August and haven't had a problem yet. Originally i went with two Arriba cases with wheels but they didn't seem to give the moving heads enough protection I went with a heavy-duty road case which i know i can rely on.

Also the omega lights you are seeing in the pictures have been upgraded to the Martin SCX500's.. those lights rock!

it amazes me when I see all this stuff,,, these huge systems,,,, I wish the school market was better here so I could justifie adding newer lighting..

I know that sometimes we as DJs buy stuff for us and it may not be the most practical thing,, but we do it anyway.. :)

Thanks very much Berry.. The DJ times article is about 60% correct.. as you may know there is no Billings, South Dakota.. Billings is in Montana. The headline also disappointed me but overall its still neat to be featured in the magazine.

As for setup.. I am currently in the process of replacing the 4 strobe lights with two 800W DMX strobes from American DJ.. and adding two Elation UV Wash lights where the other two strobes went.. Ill snap a quick pic when its all done..

I did a little upgrading too since the last post of setup pictures. Added a whole new JBL MRX Rig.. Two dual 18's and two dual 15's powered by two QSC PLX 2502 amps and one QSC RMX4050HD.. Also added two Martin T-Rex fixtures and a Red/Green 120MW Laser..

Here are some pics from a fundraiser we did this last Sunday.. 800+ high school kids in attendance.. made for an excellent evening..

Thanks for the comments guys..

Kriby.. the tops are only about 90lbs so they are not too bad compared to the subs which are about 170Lbs.. but yeah it sucks hauling them around!

Chuck... I originally purchased the Chauvet Scorption at the Northern DJ Convention in October for about $360.00. Its a 10mw with fatbeam technology. About the middle of December i found a Green and Red one on eBay for about $200.00.. rated at 120mw.. I made the purchase in hopes to get it by New Years but didn't receive it until about a week ago..

Long story short.. it puts the Scorpion to shame in brightness.. The downside that it is not programable (where the Scorpion comes with a remote).. just runs to the music but there are a ton of patters/programs so it still looks great..

Here are some more pics of the laser..

Doesn't any laser over 4.95mw need a permit unless it's putting out a fat/wide beam?

If I'm not mistaken you need a variance for each event when using a laser of more than 4.95 mW.

Marek, sorry about bringing some gloomy clouds to your horizon but I think being safe is the most important thing both to you and your clients. You have a terrific setup and I would personally feel bad if something happened to you due to an accident which will have consequences that may last a very long time. You are young and have worked hard to have your system so you should be very proud of what you have.
Kirby,
Glad to help

Jacob.

I really apprachate the info you provided.. honestly i had no knowladge that you needed any type of permit to run the laser. Luckily the company I purchased this from offers a 30 day money back guarantee and i plan to get ahold of them tomorrow to see what we can do.. No worries about gloomy clouds.. I am actually very glad you took the time to post the links and provide the info you did.. as for me.. Im going back to the Scorpion.. It ain't 120mW but its still worth running.

Once more Jacob.. thanks very much for the useful post.. very appreciated!

DJ SVO
01-18-2007, 03:19 AM
Here's one that does not require a Variance/Permit. It's more expensive but with your setup it's well worth the extra $$$$.
http://entsyscorp.stores.yahoo.net/scsc55dmxlac.html
Give Bill a call at ESC, the phones are listed in the contact section of the page the link above opens. The best price is better than what is advertised and Bill knows his stugg. The laser is also DMX so you could take advantage of more features.

DJ_Marek
01-18-2007, 03:23 AM
Thanks Jacob.. I looked at that one when i purchased the Scorpion.. I might just replace the laser all together with another effect.. not sure yet with what.. i know it wont be a laser that requires a variance.. thanks again for the info!

Brian

Very nice setup Marek! How are you controlling everything? Do you use DMX?

DJ_Marek
01-18-2007, 01:50 PM
Everything (except the two racks of par lights) is ran by Chauvet Show X-press software.. ill upload a few screen shots when i get a chance.. took a lot of time to program everything in (as we have over 70 different shows) but it does look great.. maybe i can find a video too..

Thanks for the positive comments!

Djcarolina
01-18-2007, 11:48 PM
Marek: why not look at getting a couple of scanners with a laser feature, true it wont be as versatile and wont provide the same effect as a solo laser, but it gives u an option besides replacing the laser and having none altogether. And even if u just used the scanners for the laser effect, you'd still have a good effect and a pair (or more) of backup scanners!

Travis B
01-19-2007, 12:38 AM
carolina, not doggin' your idea, but we have 4 pocket scans up here at the office, and that little red laser ain't gonna do much, i remember reading that it was suggested to be used for previewing your scene, or where a light will hit... IDK.

They aren't too bright, and if your going to use a DMX light with a laser, why not just turn the beams on... My opinion.

Djcarolina
01-19-2007, 12:41 AM
I was actually thinking of something with the Green lasers, but i'm not a laser person, so i dont feel i'm really qualified to make sugguestions. I just hope it works out for ya, its a pain having a flaw in ur scheme aint it.

Teen setup, right? This was my setup for a senior prom this June. 450 kids, average age 18. A picture. My setup. For teenagers. Has all three required elements.

Now, if this thread is supposed to be the equipment setups of Teen-aged DJs, then say so, along with a suggestion to pay more attention in English classes, especially writing and effective communication. Just a suggestion (one that several senior members should consider as well)!

Now, maybe someone might also consider retitling this thread to : "OurDJTalk Teen-aged DJs - Show Your Equipment Set Up", then us codgers won't be so easily confused.

Looks like you have a great start to an awesome set up.... take a look at the picture below, I’ve cleaned up your speaker wires... just take Velcro straps, and attach the cords to the poles, also get a table cloth that runs the entire length, and finally, look into some sort of facade to hide some of your gear. I have a facade that is simply a few pieces of plywood, with speaker carpet over it. (see far below pictures)

Now mind you, i think you have a great system and you can tell that you have a professional mindset from the equipment choices you made. This is not a "you suck" post. Please remember, that every show is a paid performance. Even when you don't make money for it aKa it's a volunteer show, the audience doesn't know that. They expect your FULL professionalism at every performance. One $.50 roll of electrical tape would solve all your cable problems and another skirt wouldnt hurt either. Overall, it looks pretty good, but its the little details that matter.

Again, Thank you for the advice, I am new to the industry again... I am just coming back and learning it all over again... I had no idea that they had 2 tables setup and i only had brought 1 table cloth with me... I have picked up one since... I am working also for another company, and i have to say, the whole wire thing is not an issue to them (they charge around 1500 for a basic wedding and are a very professional company) I think I will try the "neat wire" approach, just to make myself look that much more professional... I must say though, the other table was a must at the event, because of the number of kids I had up there righting down their requests. My performance was great from the reviews I had, and the principal was more then pleased...
