Just a personal pet peeve of mine, not aimed at anyone specific. Try and stay away from templates. While a template makes site building a heck of a lot easier for you, it also make everybody's site look the same.

We want to stand out, no?

I spend a lot of time online, working on various websites. I take a look all kinds of sites all day long and can tell the second a template was used. To me, it makes the site look "pre-pressed". To me a pre-pressed website = lack of creativity. Which probably isn't the case, it more than likely lack of technical knowledge.

That being said please for the love of god, try to stay way from SiteBuilder or similar things from other hosts. While it makes things very easy for you as the webmaster, it makes your site look just like everyone else. Sort of like pre-fab homes. You can spot them a mile away.

You can view my thread: How to get yourself a website (http://ourdjtalk.com/showthread.php?t=22) which has some easy to understand information. I'll be updating it with some more information shortly.

Your thoughts?

Your thoughts?

You know me.

And, even when I first decided to have a website, back in the summer of '99, cuz those were the best days of my life, I DID NOT use a template for the same reason.

And I don't care what anybody says: people either love my website or the hate it (the "professional DJs" usually hate it).

I agree with Dan that way too many sites look the same. However, my current site is template based, and I haven't seen anyone with the same look yet.

"Templates", the more I think about it, reminds me of "DJs".

Like what factor said...apply it to a DJ.

"We use the same 'standard' equipment, but we are different."

It's also about creativity.

Eh?

Not to toot any horns, but the super mods and admins are very well versed in web design. If your looking for a site redo professionally please PM one of those guys for help. Some are familiar with interfacing DJ Intelligence and can make the site look exactly how you would like it.

Ed, you are indeed correct. Currently i'm not really taking any huge site redo jobs (that and I'm unfamiliar with how vb does skinning) otherwise i'd be happy to go to work on one.

Very true but I at least I didn't leave it at the default (puke-blue) like others have done for years.

A new, custom template is on my list of many things to do. Unfortanetly, I don't have the patience or time to code one myself and the price tag isn't exactly cheap. It's on the list but it's gonna be a while. For now there are a couple of alternates. It's in User CP > Edit Options.

I'm currently talking with a graphics guy, to get ODJT and howtodj an offical logo.
