Big shout to to Mista Spinna for looking out for the cause.
Labor Day is coming up and it is one of the biggest jump ups in NYC. Soca, reggae, calypso playing through some of the largest sound systems on the back of flat bed trucks.

From the Shark Tale Soundtrack (my daughter watches the movie, that how I found it)

Sean Paul & Ziggy Marley - Three Little Birds

A very good and upbeat remix of Bob Marley's original songs Three Little Birds. I play this at the club all the time and I get a great response from it. Its my secrete weapon and everyone always asks me what song it is!

I am sorry to be such a downer.

But, last Saturday, Joseph Hill, the leader singer of the legendary band, Culture, passed away.

He was 57 years old and he died in Berlin after he fell ill during the band's European tour.

Culture quickly found a replacement singer so that they may continue spreading the Reggae vibe.

It's not just REGGAE--it's FUSION REGGAE.

I got this CD months ago, but did not like it (probably because I was in a REGGAE DANCEHALL mood or something), but I listened to it again last night, and I think it's pretty cool.

While there are a few blatant REGGAE songs, this band mixes it up with subtle HARD ROCK guitars, FOLK harmonica rhythms and 60S' organ riffs.

Check it out: http://www.mountainlionsinternational.com/presskit/presskit.html

The best example of the FUSION, from the selection of audio tracks, is: IT'S GONNA BE ALRIGHT.

Hey Vinyl! What do you think about that Jewish guy that sings reggae? Matisyahu. At first I thought it sucked, but I can see it catching on..

Hey Vinyl! What do you think about that Jewish guy that sings reggae? Matisyahu. At first I thought it sucked, but I can see it catching on..

Ed told me about him, so I got his 7" single: KING WITHOUT A CROWN.

So far, I only played it at my volunteer gig at the BC SENIORS' GAMES (by the way, if such an organisation wants me again, then they have to pay).

One of the sound engineers said, "Matisyahu! Right on," and then gave me five.

Any problems with moving this to the music section? ;)

Oh, sure. I get it..."move" this to the music section before DELETING it! :p (must make sure I have my "joke" indicator on)

Sure, Dan. I made this sticky on behalf of DJJohnThe1, because I could either do so myself here or in the Funny Farm. I don't know if he actually cares what section it's in, but I WOULD like to consider what HE says.

No problem, we'll wait for the1 to chime in. It would fit in the music section though. As for making it a sticky.. that's Ed's forum, speak to him about it. :)

It's cool to move it to the music section. Thanks for including my input Vinyl.

THE SKATALITES

WITH SPECIAL GUESTS

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 2ND

RICHARD'S ON RICHARDS
VANCOUVER, BC
DOORS 8:00 PM SHOW 9:00 PM

The Skatalites are a Jamaican music group that played a major role in
popularising ska, the first truly Jamaican music created by fusing
boogie-woogie blues, rhythm and blues, jazz, mento, calypso, and African
rhythms. They recorded many of their best known songs, including "Guns of
Navarone," "Phoenix City," "Addis Ababa," "Silver Dollar," "Corner Stone,"
and "Blackberry Brandy," to name just a small handful of their most seminal
cuts.

In January 1996, The Skatalites were nominated for a Grammy Award in the
category of "Best Reggae Album" for their 1995 Shanachie release, Hi Bop
Ska. They were again nominated for a Grammy Award in the same category for
their 1996 Shanachie release, Greetings From Skamania in January 1997.

The Skatalites, a Jamaican institution, pioneered and popularized Ska
around the world. Influenced by American styles like jazz, swing, and
rhythm and blues, as well as Jamaican mento and Trinidadian calypso, Ska is
a predecessor of reggae. The original Skatalites, whose rotating membership
has included many of Jamaica's best musicians, started playing together in
tourist hotels in late-1950s Jamaica.

The group has often been quoted as saying their invention of Ska was never
intentional, but merely the byproduct of their flawed attempts at American
R&B. What The Skatalites actually did was drag these older styles into the
contemporary scene, merge it with modern R&B, and propel it into the
mainstream via a faster syncopated island beat. And with it, the group's
musical legacy spread around the world and across generations.

Don't miss The Skatalites live at Richard's on Richards on Saturday,
December 2nd.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Bambu Station Gets 5 Star Rating!

by E. Benjamin / contactus@mtneborecords.com / 202-321-2263
October 2006

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) Bambu Station, the dynamic roots reggae band from the Virgin Islands, was recently featured on Reggae-Reviews.com (www.reggae-reviews.com). To view the source article and read previous reviews of Bambu Station and other outstanding reggae music across the world, click: http://www.reggae-reviews.com/bambustation.html.

""Every situation is a chance to grow," sings Jalani Horton. The first four songs on "Break the Soil" make it clear that Bambu Station has grown more experimental and eclectic since its classic album One Day. "Brotherhood" is straight-ahead roots in the classic Bambu Station style, but "Beloved People," with its meditative flute intro, heralds new musical directions. The next track, "I Rememba," has a jazzy groove that is more playful and breezy than the somber tones we have come to expect from Bamb Station. "Sense Enemy" recalls 1970s-era roots, but with a modern twist, as Horton's vocals provide counterpoint against powerful spoken-word poetry. The remainder of the album continues to expand the band's sound. "Chance to Grow" features lead vocals from Reemah, who sweetens the song with her sugary voice. "Who? (Litany of Liars)" may be the best song on the album. It is a stunning combination of deep roots rhythms and delicate harmonies. "Bird's I View" features more airy jazz and Tuff Lion's gorgeous guitar playing. Break the Soil is another masterpiece from Bambu Station. Every track sparkles. The music is more expansive and more richly-textured than on One Day, with no drop off in quality or consistency. Simply put, this album is massive, and not to be missed."
