Request Line Productions 02-02-2007, 02:22 PM that shows up in street clothes, a ball cap and headphones?
This is one of my biggest pet peeves at receptions. Parents should teach their children how to present themselves accordingly in society. Attending a formal function is a good place to start.
Very disrespectful to the B&G as well.
Thoughts?
DJ Koz 02-02-2007, 02:25 PM This is where the Agree button would come in handy.
Scott Hanna 02-02-2007, 02:39 PM I totally agree. Years ago, people would have enough conviction to ask the person to leave if they came improperly dressed.
I come from a very large family. When i was little, one of my older sisters was getting married and a cousin showed up in jeans. My dad kicked him out. My sister probably would have prefered he stayed. But i don't recall anyone else ever showing up to a wedding in jeans until my dad and his brother passed away.
sirdj 02-02-2007, 03:00 PM I think a lot of people lost the notion of proper etiquete. Like they say "Education starts at home" todays society is lacking that.
Kirby Ball 02-02-2007, 03:18 PM The parents are probably afraid to leave them home alone.
Too many children (not all) have got their social education from TV, computers & video games and haven't a clue how to interact with people in real-life social situations.
Goes back to how they are raised, and too many parents want to be their "friend" instead of being a "parent".
I'm all for younger people "expressing" themselves, but there are times that one has to show a little "respect" for others.
Just a biased opinion of a very cranky, old man!
DJ Dan 02-02-2007, 03:27 PM I agree. :) I've gone to funerals in black jeans and a collared shirt because funerals pop-up and I didn't have time to order pants. But weddings are planned well in advance, there's no reason not to at the least buy a pair of dress pants and a button down shirt.
Personally, I'm embarrassed to walk into Sunday mass in jeans much less a wedding.
the dogman 02-02-2007, 05:03 PM Seems to me its not just kids anymore. Had a guy show up in blue jeans, harley t-shirt, black leather vest(harley) and a dew rag on his head. Call me old fashion but thats just not right. Ya just want to grab these people and say show a little respect would ya.:sqmad:
GoodKnightDJ 02-02-2007, 05:41 PM Part of is just a lack of respect on both the part of the kid and his parents.
People don't respect the old institutions anymore. Marriage now is a contract and not a covenant (the only way out of a covenant is for one of the parties to die). Because of that, nobody respects it anymore.
Somebody was talking about kids expressing themselves. My nephew was "expressing" himself the other day. And then I "expressed" myself on his bottom.
barry stamper 02-02-2007, 11:40 PM It is sad society continues to raise the bar of tolerence, imagine ten years from now
Bryan Durio 02-02-2007, 11:47 PM Personally, I'm embarrassed to walk into Sunday mass in jeans much less a wedding.
Are you Catholic? I am, and it's commonplace to see people in jeans at mass. That's usually the younger crowd. The older set respects tradition.

I was going to say the same thing myself...:sqmad: At least have the decency to TRY to fix yourself up before you leave the house...
Steve Miller 02-03-2007, 01:50 AM Boy you guys would be lost at some of the weddings I have done!
Wedding where everyone was in Jeans and cutoffs or colors.
Wedding where the groom was in Armour riding a horse.
Wedding where everyone was nude.
Wedding where I was told to dress beach casual I showed up in Dockers and a golf shirt (I was way over dressed)
wedding where tennis shoes were the call of the day, I was the only one dressed inaporpiately.
Most recent funeral I attended all palbearers were wearing Jeans and black cutoffs.
I have done many weddings where the only person wearing a suit and tie was, ummm yes the DJ!
barry stamper 02-03-2007, 01:56 AM Wedding where everyone was nude.
Did the bride dance with her father?
...why am I feeling funny inside... (must supress inbreed Gene's must supress)
Margret Thatcher naked on a cold day..
Bryan Durio 02-03-2007, 02:38 AM Steve, the weddings (and the funeral) you describe are not what was the original situation. At those events, it seems that the dress code was lax. If that's how it was, then that's how it was. I do understand the point you're making, but when some semblance of formal dress is expected, flip-flops, a tank top, and cutoffs don't fit in--and their wearer deserves to get booted out.

My point was where it is expected and your point I agree also is where it is expected.

Somebody has to ask, was the dj nude? :sqconfused:
I think a lot of people lost the notion of proper etiquete. Like they say "Education starts at home" todays society is lacking that.
Todays' society lack's a lot more than etiquette!
DJ Dan 02-03-2007, 03:05 AM Are you Catholic? I am, and it's commonplace to see people in jeans at mass. That's usually the younger crowd. The older set respects tradition.
Yes, Catholic. I see a lot of guys my age in jeans and t-shirt at church, they look like a bunch of bums, in my opinion.
DjJungle 02-03-2007, 03:37 AM I seen people wear a t-shirt and shorts to a wedding ceremony once. Nope...not kidding...and it was an ADULT that did it.
I really really really wanted to hurt the guy.
Steve Miller 02-03-2007, 03:50 AM Somebody has to ask, was the dj nude? :sqconfused:
In a word NO! LOL
I was invited to take my clothes off but just couldn't get past a few things that bothered me.

No it wasn't my wife, but I have to ask WOOD you?
Chuck The DJ 02-03-2007, 04:51 AM Well people show up in Aloha shirts and flip flops here,,, I can't really say much... :)
the dogman 02-03-2007, 04:59 AM No it wasn't my wife, but I have to ask WOOD you?
If I had to ask my wife I already no the answer. I would hang my head and say no dear your right dear I wont do it dear
the dogman 02-03-2007, 05:02 AM If I had to be nude to dj a wedding I would then be dressed inappropriately. The years dont look good on me:sqembarrassed:
No it wasn't my wife, but I have to ask WOOD you?
:sqerr: :sqlaugh:    :sqconfused: :sqeek:
bahahahaha I love this site
Fred Stewart 02-03-2007, 06:25 AM I tend to agree. If the reception is formal or semi formal at least, the pup should not have been permitted to attend dressed in street clothes.
When we were pups we were forced to attend and dress for the occasion, like it or lump it. We didn't like it but we did it. Had we been allowed to dress in street clothes we'd have been very embarassed. All the other pups were dressed to the nines and we'd have looked like outcasts.
Steve is on the money. Some weddings are informal. The bride in the red miniskirt will probably always be on my list of memorable informal weddings. :D

I agree with wanting an agree button! :sqcool:
Papa Deuce 02-03-2007, 06:37 AM I LOL at this... not at your opinions, but because you don't know MY family! Sans the hat, my dad's family ( my dad is dead, but he wouldn't have done this ).... ALWAYS dresses like that. Jeans, and a T for weddings. Maybe a button down shirt for a few of them. Boots. If it is cold, they wear a Harley Davidson Jacket. ( Yes, the ALL have them, including 2 of my aunts )
I have 3 strippers in my ( dad's side ) family.... 2 by blood, one adopted. They do come in dresses, but their boobs are showing like they want a few dollars put down their cleavage.
Man, oh man, you should see weddings in the Papa Family!...... I'm going to see if I can find a thread and re-post it here. For those who haven't read it, well what a hoot!
Found it... here ya go:
