Interesting Front Page Article from Paper Today...patrickrlewis 06-15-2007, 11:57 AM http://www.usatoday.com/life/music/news/2007-06-14-rap-decline_N.htm John Allo 06-15-2007, 12:57 PM "Regain it's crown?" In it's current form, I hope it goes away! Bring back an old school mentality with regards to lyrics and music! Kirby Ball 06-15-2007, 06:18 PM Rap has never worn a "crown", more like a "diaper".:sqeek::sqwink: jtnichol 06-15-2007, 06:27 PM I'm glad someone credible from the hip hop community agrees: Rap pioneer KRS-One, who just released Hip Hop Lives with fellow legend Marley Marl, offers a blunt explanation. "The music is garbage," he says. "What has happened over the past few years is that we have traded art for money, simple and plain, and the public is not stupid." Also according to creekmur: "A lot of these albums now are looking to duplicate the success" of whatever is hot at the moment, he says. "There is a lack of variety." I think there are a few artists out there worth listening to, but its not as artful as the underground.... Even here in KC there is a very artful group....take a listen... http://www.lawrence.com/bands/deep_thinkers/ Brian Martin 06-16-2007, 12:09 AM This is great news. And it really is garbage. Fred Stewart 06-16-2007, 04:46 AM Garbage, yes. Music, no. | |
