Scott Hanna 07-03-2007, 02:00 PM i posted this in the big show...then realized i should have posted this here.
all i am trying to do is unzip all of my karaoke files. trying to switch from sax and dottie to ots. So i have to unzip all of my files and then convert them to ots.
strange thing...when i select all the folders....it scans then all....and then when it starts extracting them, it always stops after a certain point.....and it changes the path too....i set it to go to J:\karaoke...then when i check it after it stopped....it had j:\karaoke\karaoke listed as the "extract to"
anybody have any ideas? or an easier way to do this
DJ Dan 07-03-2007, 02:16 PM I recommend 7-Zip. http://filehippo.com/download_7-zip/
I use it all the time, just highlight all the zips, right click and use the 7 zip context menu to extract them.
Scott Hanna 07-03-2007, 03:29 PM thanks dan.
it looks like the zipping isn't the problem....it's the new hard drive....zipping to my c drive works....WD says i should try to swith from fat to ntfs....itried convert....but it asks for a volume label for J:....no idea what they want.
toqer 07-04-2007, 05:12 AM You really need mp3+g toolz. (http://www.activeaspsoftware.net/default.aspx?p=downloads) After installing it, and all the pre-requisites (dot net framework) you should just be able to right click on your karaoke folder from windows explorer, choose mp3+g toolz, then just select "Convert zip to audio+G". Give it time and it'll chew through and unzip all your karaoke zip files.
"Volume Label" is just a name. Type anything in there.
Does OTS have rotation yet?
toqer 07-04-2007, 07:29 AM I feel like some shameless self promotion here. If you haven't before, give autOKdj (http://www.autokdj.com) a try. Don't miss a chance to use automated rotation, it's a godsend.
Since you're probably still going to use OTS for mix/filler music you should look at investing in a midi controller (http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDOXSESSIONPRO). Winamp/Autokdj has a plugin somewhere for using a midi controller, and OTS *should* have midi control somewhere.
A midi controller will let you control the output levels of your DJ app without having to navigate through a bunch of windows. You can have every DJ app minimized, yet still be able to control the volumes of both of them with a knob or a slider.
This brings the usual tactile feedback and control you're used to as a DJ, without having to look like a point and click freak all night. Been using one for a few months, it's awesome.
DjDennis 07-04-2007, 11:22 AM I still use and trust Winrar more than any others out there....

no it doesn't....which is a huge deal, i know. i bought the karaoke plug in for ots...but have not used it yet. The reality is we don't do much karaoke any more....just an add on once in a while.
i do have s&d, but wanted to see if ots would be easier.
thanks for the links and thanks for the info on the other stuff....always good to know about other options.
JoeChartreuse 07-04-2007, 07:27 PM .....not sure if "batch unzipping" is the way I'd phrase that...:sqcool:

i did get toolz, thanks. the one challenge is it stops when it comes across a file it doesnt like. kind of makes leaving it on overnight not very productive. any way to avoid that?
PeteT 07-08-2007, 03:59 AM any zip operation (either creating or unzipping) that you need to do in large batches is best done through batch files. WinZip, PKZip and 7zip all have command line versions available.
Between simple batch files, the FOR command and your choice of zip programs - you can do anything!

So does the MP3+G Toolz.... plus it is geared towards karaoke.... why mess around with command lines when they are soooooo easy to screw up?
Just take note of the files your haveing trouble with move em to another location and mess with them after the bulk of your files are unzipped....
Personnally I like Ots however, there is no rotation handleing at all.... and even if your not planning on karaoke being at the forefront of your business you should still give thought to programs that handle karaoke properly... you never know when that wedding is going to come up where everyone is a karaoke nut... I have had 3 of those now.
kayleigh 07-12-2007, 06:39 AM MP3+G Toolz will error out if it finds a zip file that isn't 100% "standard." PKZip (the program that set the standard) will check the header for you and try to correct the error before reporting an invalid file.

Wow PKzip now that's a blast from the past... does it still exist?
kayleigh 07-16-2007, 06:43 AM Yep - they're still around. They've angled their business a little more to secure archiving products for enterprises, but PKWare is still around.
