Carolyn 09-04-2006, 11:03 PM Hi Everyone,
Jfactor1 had a great suggestion to have weekly wedding playlists. Thanks J!
So please post your wedding reception playlists here!
jfactor1 09-04-2006, 11:05 PM Ok, I gotta figure out a better way to put my tracks in order (VDJ's history is set up so the last song I played would be first).
Stay tuned...
Jon Tuck 09-13-2006, 02:21 AM I really need to write my songs down... Im too busy working to write em down but when I go digital it will work better. I will try something this weekend to see if I can click each song in visitrax as I play it to provide a playlist. My Gig was a mix of pop mellow, island and reggae for cocktail time and during dinner. Rock and classic rock/ pop hits and finally a bit of mixing it up with hip hop dance classics etc at the last two hours. Kick ass party/best 80 person party I recall in sometime. The location was on the edge of the ocean and hopefully some good pictures will be available tomorrow or the next day.
thatmusicguy 09-13-2006, 06:33 AM I'm jumping in...Wedding on August 13th, on the shore, in a large tent. 125 guests.....ceremony at 4 pm. Rained like cats and dogs til 4:25; even had hail; ceromony delayed to 4:45....dinner...dancing started at 9:30 pm. Freezing cold for mid -August (you could see your breath)..
Great crowd.....by midnite we had about 60. Great selection of music; a lot of different stuff...By the last hour or so just palying requests mostly, trying to keep some semblence of order. The crowd didn't care; they were dancin to everything....

jfactor1 09-13-2006, 05:29 PM Does anyone know of software that would fix the way my VDJ history is listed?
This is how it looks now...
17:34 - Juelz Santana-There It Go (The Whistle Song).mp3
17:33 - Game - How We Do (Feat. 50 Cent).mp3
17:31 - 50 Cent - Disco Inferno.mp3
17:30 - Bubba Sparxxx-Ms New Booty.mp3
17:28 - Chamillionaire-Ridin'.mp3
You can see the time on the left, and it's in order of the last song played. I would have to drag and drop each song individually for them to be in the right order. Is there software available that would sort them alphabetically (hopefully since the time is first, it would use that)?

Cheese isn’t professional. How do you plead?
Mr. K 09-18-2006, 06:48 PM Cheese isn’t professional. How do you plead?
I was verbally poisoned before my booth was hijacked.
I was coerced by drunk people armed with special requests!
I was a the wrong place at the wrong time.
There were young, giggly girls in the crowd!
Jury, do you read me?
But if I still cannot prove my innocence, then how about a plea to the lesser charge of "guilty by association"?
Balanced Line 09-18-2006, 07:19 PM The jury in this case is not to be addressed for purposes of mitigation. They are here to determine guilt or innocence. The bench has heard your mitigation. Although persuasive, it does not expunge your culpability.
You are hereby condemned to listen to Henry the Eighth I Am by Herman’s Hermits for a period of not less than 24 contiguous hours. Send him down.
It is funny how one person’s cheese is another’s meat and potatoes. You see lists with disliked tracks and you say, hey I like that one. Another list has supposed classics that drive you potty. It seems to be a matter of judgement. It seems that if you want to please your audience you may not always please yourself. After going through the lists I found some stuff I’ve never heard as well as some likely future must plays. Thanks to Music Guy as well.
Mr. K 09-18-2006, 07:22 PM Carolyn's gonna MOD our behinds.
Travis B 09-18-2006, 07:46 PM Ok, I gotta figure out a better way to put my tracks in order (VDJ's history is set up so the last song I played would be first).
Have you tried turning charts off? I believe that would do the trick.

I personally used to keep playlists for all my gigs mainly to go back and see where I'm repeating myself and becoming redundant/predictable. It only takes a few seconds to jot down each song. Computer jocks have it easier.
Keep a play list for the next few gigs, you may surprise yourself with how many time you play the same set. ;)
eklondon 09-21-2006, 12:50 PM I'll give it a shot,
Normally I leave my Function & on the Car ride back, I'm thinking to myself
What did I just play??? honestly, I don't know.

If it makes you feel any better, I don't write playlists.
My playlist in this thread is "inaccurate" because I did it from memory...helped by glancing through my music lists and recalling which songs I played.
I did it only cuz I wanted to contribute to this forum.

Jeff Romard 09-21-2006, 01:33 PM Also if you play for the same crowd alot besides helping you stay fresh it helps you remember what works real well for them I use it alot in this manner

Ok one question
what do you call Cheese and what do you say is not cheese
please explain!
Jon Tuck 09-26-2006, 06:04 PM Dennis just to give you heads up Balanced is wired differently and probably attempting a non typical form of humor here me thinks!!
Balanced Line 09-26-2006, 07:41 PM Ok one question

Thank you Ed and thank you Dennis.
Please allow me to introduce you to my friend. His name is Wallace (the avatar). Wallace is one half of the animated team Wallace and Grommet. When Wallace runs short on cheese, Wallace and Grommet go to the moon for more (Wallace's idea). Grommet (the dog) is the sensible one. Grommet wouldn't urge the groom to get nekid in front of grandmum. Oops, different thread.
Your question was my question some time ago and that is when I adopted Wallace as my avatar. Thanks for asking and welcome aboard Dennis.
BTW: I thought both gentlemen's list was very good. Found some new tracks and artists I was not familiar with.

How to kybosh a reception 101
Lights are up full; there is no dance floor (tables and chairs on it). I don't start with the B & G waltz for 25 minutes. By that time...40 were left...Itwas only the 50's stuff that got them going...I was able to keep a bunch on the floor for the rest of the night: 9:50 pm to 1:00 am. thatmusicguy 10-21-2006, 07:41 AM Nice small wedding...100guests... B &G wanted one waltz, then into fast stuff. I find that hard.....The open waltz gets everyone up and it's easier to feep them on the floor...Lesson learned: slow songs real quick....Once they got up though, they were good to go....Tip at the end of the night, even got a round of applause.....One thing. After the last song was done several older ladies (60's) made the comment as to what a beautiful and fitting song, it was. Climax Blues Band - I love you....listen to the lyrics...probably one of the best first dances......
When I was younger man I hadn't a care
Foolin' around, hitting the town, growing my hair
You came along and stole my heart when you entered my life
Ooh babe you got what it takes so I made you my wife
Since then I never looked back
It's almost like living a dream
I love you
You came along from far away and found me here
I was playin' around, feeling down, hittin' the beer
You picked me up from off the floor and gave me a smile
You said you're much too young, your life ain't begun, let's walk for awhile
And as my head was spinnin' 'round
I gazed into your eyes
And thought I want you
Thank you babe for being a friend
And shinin' your light in my life
'cause I need you
As my head was comin' round
I gazed into your eyes
And thought I want you
Thanks again for being my friend
And straightenin' out my life
'cause I need you
Since then I never looked back
It's almost like livin' a dream
I got you
If ever a man had it all
It would have to be me
I love you

eklondon 01-30-2007, 10:42 PM Went over soo well, that night. Like I said Bride was a huge HIP/Dance/Bar Lover! All version played this night I will say were UN edited
So Cal Hugh 03-24-2008, 01:57 AM I haven't played some of these songs in years. December '63 was last played by me on vinyl. It's back in the rotation as of now.
Great thread idea!
Abbey Lane 03-24-2008, 04:32 PM I've noticed that most of the songs are older songs. (Not current)
My question is at a wedding how many "current/newer songs" do you play in an evening.
Before the new wedding season starts, I've been going over my song list from weddings last year and noticed that on the average I play about eight current/newer songs per event. They are usually played in the middle of the night. I only played one wedding last year starting out with a current/newer song. Your comments please?
thatmusicguy 03-25-2008, 05:55 PM Abbey - Ive posted A lot of playlists here..........My weddings ..I might play 5-10 current hits. I find people want music that they know and is fun. Crank That and U and Ur Hand don't seem to fit the bill..........thankfully.....
Lately it's been Britney, Timbaland, Rihanna.....very mainstream stuff.....
Wavy Davy 03-26-2008, 11:19 AM I reckon Pink Get The Party Started is the only one that could be deemed as 'new" is a regular - the rest the same stuff ;)
Jon Tuck 03-26-2008, 11:22 AM Wow Davey they let you play Pink at the retirement homes LOL Sorry couldnt resist ol Mate!!
DJSAZON1 07-10-2008, 03:48 PM Do you have any up-tempo playlists with like Lil Jon,Petey Pablo,Usher,Hurricane chris,etc.out there.
jkcomputers 07-10-2008, 06:50 PM Do you have any up-tempo playlists with like Lil Jon,Petey Pablo,Usher,Hurricane chris, etc.out there.
