Carolyn 09-10-2006, 11:25 AM Hi Everyone,
I worked a Sweet 16 yesterday and took a couple photo's of one of my systems. I have a bad back so, the front table and the cabinet I have made to fit me. The bottom cabinet is used for storage, they are only attached during the show.
Carolyn 09-10-2006, 11:26 AM P.S. It's probably a good thing I am not a photographer lol!
DJ Dan 09-10-2006, 11:27 AM Oh.. Buttons, switches and dials.. I love 'em :D
Nice pictures. You know we have a photo gallery (http://ourdjtalk.com/vbpicgallery.php?) now right? ;)
jfactor1 09-10-2006, 01:16 PM Here's my setup.
I had left a bucnh of lights at home. One of these days, I'll set EVERYTHING up and take a pic.

Dan,
Even though we have a photo gallery, I like the idea of a thread dedicated to system pics. Easy, one stop place to drool :walkman:
Carolyn 09-10-2006, 01:33 PM Jfactor,
I like the light set up, what do you have up there?
Is that a behringer mixer? Just curious looks like one but I haven't seen them in black.
Nice clean set-up J.
jfactor1 09-10-2006, 01:48 PM The mixer is a Mackie 1402VLZ.
The lights are:
4-ADJ DJ Scan 250s
8-MBT Par 38s
1-ADJ Lotus
1-ADJ Vertigo
For controllers I use a Chauvet DMX-40 for the scanners, an ADJ CC-2016 for the pars and an Elation Copilot 2 for the spin & pukes.
Not in the pic:
2-ADJ Warp 250s
1-ADJ Mystic
1-ADJ Confusion
1-Odyssey Twister
1-MBT Moonflower
1-ADJ 12' mirror ball
4-ADJ Par 46 Super Pinspots
1-Martin fogger
Travis B 09-10-2006, 01:49 PM Beat me to it!
You like the chauvet controller? We have one at the office and to me it's a real pain to use.
I prefer elation compu pro. But if you've got it figured out, good for you.
I also use the elation co-pilot II and I am very satisfied with it's performance!

It's not too bad to use. I just wish I had spent the extra and bought a controller with a joystick.
Tyrone Blue helped me out as far as learning how to program DMX.
Carolyn 09-16-2006, 01:43 PM I went to one of my shows last night this is another system mostly for smaller parties and venues. This ones cabinet is actually a kitchen cabinet that I bought from Home Depot. If you notice it is very similar to the other larger system. I set all of them up almost identical.
That's Wally running the show, he does a great job.
jfactor1 09-16-2006, 02:03 PM Is that a Behringer PHM-2000? I use the same one for backup and cermonies.
Carolyn 09-16-2006, 02:15 PM Yes it is. I know some don't like Behringer, but I do. I have 4 mixers by them and two power amps. They have lasted quite a while.
On my battery operated system I have a Behringer mixer that runs off batteries. It is too cool.
DJ Brian B 09-16-2006, 02:31 PM Here is a pic... (The Budwieser Can was Jfactors Editing..I cant find the original picture without the beer..LOL!)

jfactor1 09-20-2006, 10:05 PM http://www.djbrianb.com/html/slideshow.php?psi=41
DJ Dan 09-21-2006, 08:08 AM Haha Brian's a trip! :D On a serious note though if you'd like beer can re-edited out, Brian let me know I'll take care of it.
DJ JohnThe1 09-24-2006, 02:55 AM The Denon and Mackie set is used for Sweet 16's and Weddings.
The 1210's and the QSC's are used for block parties and carnival floats.
Over the winter I will be adding Serato Scratch Live and a HP laptop.
barry stamper 09-24-2006, 12:18 PM Awesome great set up John
DJ JohnThe1 09-24-2006, 01:16 PM Thanks Barry!
DJ Dan 09-24-2006, 03:13 PM Sweet setup John! Do I see a tape deck squeezed in there? :p
DJ JohnThe1 09-24-2006, 03:55 PM Thanks Dan! It's a tape deck, it comes in handy for shows when people have their presentation music on tape.
Jon Tuck 09-24-2006, 03:58 PM Im going to go out and get a portable tape player now cause you made me think of our goals with the revolution. Prepare for any customer. YOu might disappoint a client that has a special song only on cassette. If you dont have that resource. Thanks John for that insite!
DJ JohnThe1 09-24-2006, 04:02 PM No problem JT Sock. I bought the unit because I provided sound for a couple of school shows. The kids had the music for the routines on cassette. I knew ahead of time and I just wanted to make them happy.
Tyrone Blue 09-27-2006, 12:11 AM This is my smaller wedding show without any intels. This picture was about a month ago.
DJ Brian B 09-27-2006, 07:40 PM That is considered small?!
Whats big then..LOL!
Travis B 09-27-2006, 07:57 PM Tyrone, Do the Police Lights come in handy?
jfactor1 09-27-2006, 09:03 PM Great setup Tyrone!!! I see you're using EV tops, but what are the subs?
(mental note to self: I need to buy a strobe).
HiDefDJ 09-27-2006, 11:10 PM I've got a music video sweet 16 on Saturday and plan on taking some pics. I'll be sure to post them in the gallery.
Tyrone Blue 09-28-2006, 12:07 PM Yeah, I love the beacons. I use a pipe from one of my old "T" bars and attach it at 90 degrees with a drum clamp. I posted better pictures over on DJChat several months ago on the clamp. It works awesome.
Jay, the bottoms are real good ones from the music store here in Brainerd, but I don't know that they are (but, I'll go look this afternoon). I had a gig last fall at the YMCA and brought in my old subs from the cold. It was a really cold day out and once I got them inside, they must have started warming up and the speakers started to condense water. I plugged em in and "POP". No subs for the rest of the show.
I ran to the shop down the road and picked up the best subs they had in the house. I still use them but have never looked at the brand. I re-speakered the other subs with B-52 speakers. Now I have 5 nice subs... One is powered that I use in my gig bench.
And, yes, this is my smaller show set-up. My bigger one has two trusses like in the picture, and I use a lot of Intel's. I'll grab a similar picture of a small show that does have some Intel's in it... BRB...
Someone asked in another thread about mounting Accu Spots on top of speakers. I have done this since I got mine... never had a problem.
Tyrone Blue 09-28-2006, 12:30 PM Here's the clamp I use to attach the "T" bars to the top of my truss. I use an "O" clamp that I attach to the bottom of my beacons (drilled a hole in the base).
And a few more pics of my smaller set up. I've done the bigger setup a few times, but never got a picture...
One is with my wife when we debuted the new lasers.
One picture is at the YMCA where I blew the subs... and I'm only using 6 scanners of the 32 that I now have. In the 3rd pic, you can see my XP-3's sitting on top of my speakers.
Kevin Nichols 09-28-2006, 09:33 PM I have a 2 hour middle school homecoming I'm doing for a photographer friend next Friday night. I have 1 hour to set up. I wanted to come up with something quick to set up my lights. Tyrone's pics helped me out. I took a 5' piece of ladder truss and mounted my moving lights on top and took an "O" clamp and a "C" clamp, screwed the together and mounted my t-bar on the bottom of the truss with 4 par 38 on it. It's not beautiful but it'll be fast! This is a pic setup in the garage. Then a pic of the clamps. Thanks Tyrone!!

Tyrone Blue 09-30-2006, 03:44 PM This is my last night on the dock this summer. Labor day crowds are usually pretty good.
Next Monday night, I'm setting up my new lights inside, over the 12X12 dance floor. I'm going to try and get 16 intels over the floor. When I do, I'll get some pictures and post them.

I guess I didn't have the flash going on my camera which resulted in a poor pic.
Chuck The DJ 10-03-2006, 01:22 PM Tyrone,,,
Is that trussing hard to set up?
Do you do it by yourself?
Tyrone Blue 10-03-2006, 06:04 PM Yes, I do it myself in about 7 minutes. I only use the straight bars now. I used to build the "arch" but I've started putting my lights higher in the air and the crank-ups allow me to mount everything on the floor before I elevate them.
I purchased my trusses from a company in New York called "Knight Industries". It's a small shop, but they do nice work. Link below...

Chuck The DJ 10-03-2006, 09:03 PM When I do my bigger stuff, that's what I use 14" triangle trussing and ETA 14' crank up towers...

Question? I can see you reduced your truss by half in length, how does this work for you, are there advantages to this in set up etc. How does this effect floor coverage? thanks Basic, barry

Hey Berry:
I use the 5ft truss aswell and I like it better than the 10ft, because i never used it up all the way so it had extra space...Plus since my dad has a truck i would have to take the truss apart and put it together to make it 10 which is more time. So IMO 5ft has been working out nicely for me.

Brian, How many lights are your running like that on the trust, Im currently using the american dj fab4 and 4 gazers(sorta like par cans) a strobe, a copter sphere(a real turd) imho and my New Multi sauser II which I place on top my stack I guess Im wandering would it make my light show seem better or brighter being closer together ? thanks Brian
Kevin Nichols 10-13-2006, 08:06 AM Barry, to answer your question in my photo gallery, the lights on the sides are triangular trussing with par 38's inside of them. The white cloth is a bed sheet I was trying out the concept with. I'm waiting on the fireproof cloth to come in. Thanks!

Hey Barry:
With my 5ft Truss I am taking,
2- Snap Shot 2's (On Top)
3- Vertigoes
5 Lights total.
I think like 6 lights max on the 5ft truss.

The smaller section works great. It's also the perfect size to fit just on the outside of my booth.
As for lights, I have 2 led's pars on top with a fat beam laser sandwiched between them. Under each par I have a nova scan. Sandwiched between the novas is the Sunray. I just got a barrel scanner and may place that in the middle above the sunray and below the laser. In fact, the barrel scanner will REPLACE the laser for events that aren't teen oriented. Teen events will still get the laser.
I also have 2 DMX stobes that I was thinking of mounting on the OUTSIDE of the truss. They would actually be mounted on the vertical section of the truss stand, but would centered across the horizontal section of truss. In essence, the lights would be sidways.
Brian has a pic of his 10' truss with like 3 lights on it. Not to bash, but it looks ridiculous having 3 lights on a 10' truss like he had. Radioactive Rob has pics with a 10' truss with only 4 lights on it. I believe he just had 4 scanners on the truss and that looked fine. I wouldn't use many, if any more lights on my 5' section. Bigger events will get the full 10'.

BTW, I know they're crooked. I hadn't aimed them yet.
Travis B 10-22-2006, 11:26 AM to make my setup and teardown faster, I have the 10' block already pre-fabricated, all I have to do is snap on the side pieces, insert the safety pin, twist the knob, put the T Bar's then insert all that on the bases. It works really well. We have got it to where with two men, the setup can be done in as little as 30 mins

jtnichol 10-30-2006, 10:51 PM It's not too bad to use. I just wish I had spent the extra and bought a controller with a joystick.
I have a dmx operator pro with a joystick. You aren't missing much. Its much faster to use channel 1 and 2 on that thing. the joystick has no resistance to it, flimsy...makes it easy to overshoot your mark.
I pulled it out!...now its really damn flimsy...
jtnichol 10-30-2006, 10:59 PM And, yes, this is my smaller show set-up. My bigger one has two trusses like in the picture, and I use a lot of Intel's.
Man, I'm the same way...
question...do you dismount your pars when you pull your truss? In other words, do you pack your truss with some lights attached?
I do T-bars. I flip the pars up, and store face down. Granted, it can scuff the gel sheets, but I don't want to worry about those too much. time/money.
Also, you mention accuspots.....my dream is to get 2 Elation Design spots on my speaks...
so for now
4 - 250 Watt MSD scans
8 pars
one mover
2 diversitronic strobes 1800 watt each
no pics...sorry....

I have as many lights, but have NEVER set them all up at once... no one was willing to pay the price. And I can't touch your sound system... not even close. But my dad can beat up your dad!!! Sorry, I couldn't resist that.
Jeremiah, go back to the earlier picture and you can see that I hang 4 pars from one pipe, then "C" clamp that pipe to the truss. It speeds things up greatly.

Rockinct32 10-31-2006, 02:25 PM Oops I am sorry, that total went over my head. I do have to comment on the website though, you need to be able to scroll the page And the background together, because you are loosing text hidden inside that blue box. If it is HTML written, there is a simple tag you can enter to fix that.

Tyrone Blue 11-08-2006, 12:38 PM Yeah, break it down. What are the boxes on the floor? Since I'm not well versed with sound equipment, tell me how you have all those speakers hooked up and to what?
BTW VERY impressive set up... looks like you come in number two, behind Valerie.
jfactor1 11-08-2006, 12:43 PM BTW VERY impressive set up... looks like you come in number two, behind Valerie.
I don't know, he seems to have more intelligent lighting.
I guess they'll have to list everything they've got so we can all drool. :sqwink:
Valerie Ruste 11-08-2006, 01:28 PM Neat setup! What is your audio rig?
galactic 11-08-2006, 08:57 PM alright, Here it goes,
the boxes you see are dance stages with glass tops w/ lights in the box that flash to the beat, its pretty cool, its right out of the 80s i guess..lol, students love it
the audio you see on the pix are yorkville 500P tops, yorkville 800p subs and custom dual 18 sub boxs. i also own a EAW rig for my larger events
as for the lighting, the top show had 8 intellibeams, 4 studio spot 250 moving heads, 8 1000 watt data flash strobes and a hand full of other lights
o yeah, and the laser
ill try to find somemore,
Tyrone Blue 11-09-2006, 12:34 AM How do you have all of your speakers set up? Are you running one amp with each speaker... or two speakers on each amp?
The boxes on the floor, that your speakers are sitting on... all the way across the floor in the first picture... what are those?
jfactor1 11-09-2006, 12:43 AM The Yorkville's are all powered. The boxes along the bottom of the floor are his dual 18s (I think). I'd guess that those are not powered and he has one hell of an amp rack to run them.
galactic 11-09-2006, 01:01 AM in the top pic the boxes on the floor are my dual 18s they are not powered, the rack that you see by the far speaker stack has 5 QSC 4000 amps in it, so of it breaks down is each speaker gets its own ch. (5 amps x 2 ch. per amp = 10 speaker boxes) at 2000 at 4 ohm.
so the sound breaks down like this,
20000 for bass (2000w each x 10 dual 18s)
6000 for mid bass (1500w each x 4 LS800 subs)
10200 for mid highs (850w each x 12 LS500 tops)
36200 total (not bad for a school gym :-P
now the boxes in the other pic, those are my dance stages
HiDefDJ 11-09-2006, 01:12 AM alright, Here it goes,

galactic 11-09-2006, 02:13 AM heres 2 of my larger events
one was the lighting for a hip hop concert we did at GM Place, the other is a rave party we did.
its hard to make it out but on the hip hop concert lighting rig (first pic)
we have;
14 VL3000 moving heads
14 studio spot 250 moving heads (in the centre area)
64 par 64 LED
6 blinder banks
now what you can't see is the stage;
8 more studio spot 250 moving heads
16 data flash (stobes)
8 more par 64 LED
32 LED light tubes
Sound,
32 KF760 EAW tops
16 850 EAW subs
now the pic on the right is the rave
6 9 by 12 screens
20 I-Beams (there hard to see but they are there on the truss)
16 date flash
par 64 LED lighting
4 studio spots 250 on stage
sound is
24 TX9 yorkville subs
28 TX4 yorkville tops
tons of QSC amps
Tyrone Blue 11-09-2006, 03:11 AM I gotta go get a mop... I just peed all over the floor.
Bud, you're WAY outta my league. I think you need to start your own forum. See me on my knees,(bowing, of course)? You can be king of the hill.
Ok, now that I've slobbered all over myself and these boards, what do you get for a gig like that (if you don't mind)? Is all this gear yours? Time to set up? How many in your crew? How many sections of truss do you use for that? [Slobber, slobber]
Is your booth right up on stage, or way up there^. Are the hoists yours and how many?
Jon Tuck 11-09-2006, 03:39 AM Tyrone,
Jason does many of the large school events here in the lower mainland B.C. Obviously he does more than schools working in places like BC Place. Ive watched Jasons site and heard great things from afar mostly as you see my 2 Mackies, CD Mix2 Laptop and Martin Acrobat are in such a different league. Jason it was great chattin with ya this afternoon we will most definitely have to do lunch some day
soon.
galactic 11-09-2006, 04:51 AM the hip hop concert was around $60000 thats all the gear, crew, trucking
that event took about 8hrs to set up and 5 hrs to take down with 20 guys
and it took about 5 hrs to pre pack the show at the office and about 4 hrs to put it all back with 4 crew
now the rave was around $35000, took i think 12 guys to put up in 8 hrs and 5 or so to take down with 12 guys
yes most of the gear is mine, i tryed to buy things that all the big boy production houses have (like Q1 productions, rocky, christie lites) have so if i need more of some thing i know where to find it...
as for the motors i don't have any but i have chain falls, so it just takes more time.
i think thats it :sqconfused:

djkenowens 12-03-2006, 01:32 PM I'm almost embarrassed to post my system here after looking at everyone elses, but I'll do it anyways lol. I've slimmed it down over the years, it fits in the back seat of a car but gets the job done.
Ignore the cables, lol. It was the only way to get to the TV so the guests won't trip, and allows me to set a speaker up about 25 feet away to provide sound to the bar. The slips of paper are karaoke slips I save for frequent guests. saves them time and saves me headaches. The karaoke player belongs to the bar, hence why it's not in the rack, I just plug it in to my system and save the wear on my player.
djkenowens 12-03-2006, 01:33 PM oh, and the coffee carafe belongs to them as well, that's my drink of choice while I'm working

djkenowens 12-03-2006, 11:56 PM lol, they aren't even sticky pads, just slips clipped into a few magnet clamps. :) Real old style. just like me...

musicdoctordj 12-04-2006, 01:18 AM Hey John!!! You say you're on your 6th Dodge in 21 years?
I'm still on my FIRST Chevy C-20 van. And it's 20 years old!
HHHMMMMM! :sqwink:
My first Dodge was a 1971 Dodge cube van that had 280,000 miles on it when I got it in 1985 . . .
I put 65,000 miles on it before the motor finally died . . .
My second Dodge van was a 1977 Dodge Maxi van with a custom-ordered-from-the-factory 400 motor that I bought from my brother, the original owner.
I had that for 4 years and sold it because the body was rusting out (I'm from Michigan . . . where they use salt on the roads to melt ice and snow).
I had another one that was a total klunker that I bought as a back-up van . . . body was rusted out, but mechanically was perfect!
Don't know how many miles it had on it . . . the odometer didn't work!
I had a Ford Econline van after that . . . what a piece of cRap!
Dumped that thing quick!
I then bought a Ford Aerostar cargo van . . . nice little toy, but didn't withstand a rear-ender by a monster truck!
Then . . . my fifth Dodge . . . I needed a van quick after the Aerostar got wrecked (1994) . . .
A friend was driving me around looking for a used van . . . and there it sat in the front yard of a house way out in the country!
A 1989 Dodge cargo van with a 318 motor with 40,000 miles on it . . . asking $1800 for it!
I took it for a test drive and drove it by my mechanic . . .
He put it up on the hoist, checked it out completely, then said to me:
"Buy this thing!"
So I went back and haggled the guy down to $1200, and it was mine!
It had been a maintanence vehicle owned by the State Of Michigan . . .
I moved to Colorado with that van . . . drove back and forth between Michigan and Colorado 12 times with it . . .
The body was rusted out . . . but it still had the original exhaust (stainless steel), original motor and tranny (neither ever rebuilt or worked on), and it had 204,000 miles on it when I sold it in 2002!
Guess what . . . I saw it two months ago in the parking lot of Office Max at the corner of 120th. and Colorado in Thornton!
I freaked!
I had to sell it when we bought our camper and I realized that it just wasn't up to the task of pulling that big thing . . .
Which is when I bought that big monster 15 passenger white Dodge B-350 van (the one I had when we first met) . . .
Didn't have that long as it also got taken from me four months after I bought it in another rear-ender!
And my 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 has 124,700 miles on it as it sits out in my driveway . . . still looks like brand new (haven't waxed it in five years), and just this summer had to take it in for the very first time for work other than typical maintanence (had to replace the water pump at 120,000).
And it still has the factory exhaust . . . tranny . . . motor . . .
Yes . . . I love Dodge!
They have been good to me!
All of the Dodge trucks I've had over the years have cause me very little grief and cost me hardly anything in repairs.
The only time one of them made me walk was when the rear axle bearing burned out on my way to a gig (the 1977 Dodge Maxi mentioned above)!
I got to the gig . . . had to hitch a ride home and have it towed 45 miles back to town!
And it was my own fault that the bearing burned out . . .
I was putting my boat in the lake one time and had the rear axel under water . . . during the drought of 1988 and I had to back 200 feet off of shore just to get deep enough to drop the boat off of the trailer!
To which I was informed by my mechanic that there is a vent in the axel and water got in it
Which caused it to fry . . . !
musicdoctordj 12-04-2006, 01:35 AM I had to notice and mention it for the sake of all our digital non disc friends.
I am a 'digital' disc friend!
Still using disc (CD's) . . . see no reason to switch! :sqcool:

you know, for the longest time I wanted to get the eliminators, maybe because I believe EV's are some of the best speakers out there, I ended up getting JBL because of price.
The equipment that you show is very nice. Lots of bells and whistles which is great.

thanks man...how are the JBL's workin' for you? I really would like to hear some 18's in the same price range. I don't think my EV's have a nice solid punch. But the size and weight is awesome.
thanks for the line bro....

the jbls are "ok", they come with the crown amp, the quality is great but they clip pass the 7 level. They do the job. Specially since I run a pair of JBL with twin 15's as full range. I have the same sound processor that you do, and i love it.
maestro 12-09-2006, 06:23 PM Jeremiah,
I love those little mascots on top of your speakers! Very kewl... I would be afraid they would topple over, are they attached somehow? How do you like them?

My kids at school call em "robot" ...they really do look like em. They have feet on the bottom. I secure them with bungee in a way that if they tipped, they won't fall to the floor. Somebody is reall gonna have to pile into the speakers to get em over.....also, I normally hang those off my other T bar with the 4 pars I don't have pictured.
Eventually, I want to put 2 elation power spot 250's on the speakers....
Thanks maestro!

jtnichol 12-10-2006, 04:26 PM dude, it looks clean to me! Did you forget to shave or something?
DJ_BreakZ 12-10-2006, 07:42 PM LOL ... If you look at the first pic, you can see the wires coming off the speaker poles and the power strip by the right sub.
Jon Tuck 12-11-2006, 02:30 AM and he forgot to get the bellhop from out behind his gear and left his lighting truss at home .
DJ_BreakZ 12-11-2006, 03:29 AM The reason I put the lights on the speakers in this setup, was because there wasn't a lot of room where I was setting up and I didn't want to put the Intimidators next to the bubble machine on the T-Bar.
The reception had about 150 people in a room made for 100 people (they told me there would be 200/250 guests, that is why I brought some much sound). I was tight on space and didn't want to take up more room then I needed!
thatmusicguy 12-11-2006, 07:34 AM It could have been neater......I know....
DJ_BreakZ 12-11-2006, 10:33 AM What stands are those?

http://www.herculesstands.com/lights/lightstands.html
http://www.herculesstands.com/speakers/SS700B.html
I paid $189 cdn for the light stand
$225 for the speakers stands (they are rated at 100lbs.)
They feel sturdy; the cranks feel "heavy duty" as well.
I like 'em....................
Kreation 12-11-2006, 01:00 PM Hey BreakZ, I actually like the way you had the lights set up, especially since it was a tight space, I thought it was a good idea. What did you do to keep them so they wouldnt fall off?
I have never posted pics of my system on any forum, I keep forgetting my dig cam, mabey one day I'll remember
p.s. Steve, nice set up

the theme there was Casin0R0yale... pics taken early... forgot to take more pics when the 'dealers' where set. The party was offered for the employees, as appreciation. No gambling for money, they offered gifts for people with most chips. I had a ball.
Later my fellow bretheren:sqcool:
djlee 12-11-2006, 03:23 PM Mine...
FINALLY got rid of the truss and went t-bar only. I like the minimalistic approach much better. And, it's loads easier for me to setup and break down on my own if need be.
Comments/Ideas?
Mr. K 12-11-2006, 03:48 PM Comments/Ideas?
How many people were in the crowd for this event?
Thanks.
P.S.: nice smile!
djlee 12-11-2006, 07:16 PM The system is underpowered for the crowd, ~400-500 in the room at a time. However, I only do this size event once a year so it does not make sense financially for me to buy more gear.
djlee 12-11-2006, 07:16 PM :sqcool: And I'm glad you like the smile

maestro 12-12-2006, 03:43 AM ek, you should set the sub on the floor, it doesn't have to be in the center but it should be on the floor. The height of that stage makes me think that it would put the woofer at the perfect height for major bass freq. cancellation. I had it happen to me once and learned my lesson. I had tons of bass on stage but zero on the dance floor. Seriously, I'm talking nada!
eklondon 12-12-2006, 04:06 AM The funny thing about the Sub that Night is that I never turned the Volume
up (acident), my 15s on the stage gave me enough bottom end. I noticed
when tearing down the the volume was all the way down (6o'clock)This party
(In another post) had bombed the last few years and everything I brought
was for esthetic reasons. Really wanted to Impress.
I will keep that in mind for my next gig!
Have another Party, same location this coming Saturday
maestro 12-12-2006, 09:47 PM That's too funny! I can't remember the exact number but I think it was 4' from the center of the woofer to the floor and the bass will canel itself out. Does anyone know the exact numbers?

Btw, Tyrone, you do a nice job with your setups; neat, symmetrical, functional. Hats off. Besides, you go places we won't fit!! lol (the systems posted are our only 2 systems)
I hear ya about not using all the lights. This is nowhere near all of our lights or equipment, but we have to draw the line somewhere! 50A of 220V plus 2 120 circuits seems like plenty.
What do you do with the power once you get it? Do you break down that 50A 220 down to multiple 100V circuits? Custom Distro box?
sparkieg 12-24-2006, 11:44 PM Geez, after seeing the REALLY BIG RIGS in this thread, I'm almost ashamed to post. Oh well, guess something's better than nothing......so here goes.
These pics were from the first holiday party I did this month.
The first pic is of the rig from the dance floor, the second is my view behind the console.
sparkieg 12-24-2006, 11:53 PM And to run power to all the lights, I had an electrician buddy of mine custom build a distro panel for me.
There are 12 individual 30 amp breakers.
He designed it so that I could either tie in by pigtail, or with a 3 blade adapter or 4 blade adapter. The box is extremely clean inside. Parts for the distro came to just a little over 300 dollars and I gave him 500 bucks total for his trouble.
Enjoy.

Yeah, we have a distro. We take 50A of 220 and break that out into actually 2 220V distros. One of our distros is built into a dimmer rack, the other is just an individual panel. I have pics at the office I can post sometime. The big DJ system right now will trip a 50A 220....we run a couple wall circuits as well to prevent that.
We do have a 3 phase distro too, but it's a bit much to find that access for most dances. For production jobs (lots of lighting) it is a necessity.

It's suprising that more DJs don't have at least basic distro boxes. Even with LED parts, scanners and such use a lot of power.... and tapping 220 would be really helpful.
It's also interesting that you can't buy something like this in home depot... Maybe not 3-phase... but basic breaker box with a bunch of 110V outlets and a single 220V feeder.
thatmusicguy 12-25-2006, 04:10 PM So if I understand right, this distro is plugged into a 220 v outlet (stove plug?) giving you (in Sparkieg's case) 12 circuits to play with?
Do most halls and such have 200 available...If it is, are we talking plug and play?
Are you guys putting a 50 or 100 foot cord on these to bring the distro to your set up....
I know an electrician...I may inquire to build say a 6 breaker distro....

Yes, we plug into a 220 outlet (we carry several different plugs plus pigtails) and the distro breaks it out into 110V circuits. We carry about 250' of power cord to reach from the source to the system...that's usually enough. All cords run from the amp racks to the distro and down the truss and to the distro. 2 dimmer lines run to walls or we'll trip the 220. I have several different distro pics I can post for you to show your electrician friend. They aren't too terribly expensive to build....feeder cable can add up in price.
Most venues we play in have 220. Occasionally we tie into a panel or disconnect box (we carry an assortment of breakers also). BUT, consider also that the facilities we play at are generally larger; our system is over 65' wide itself. We don't play VFWs. Schools usually have adequate power within distance. Occasionally a location will have to put in power, but that has never really been a big problem either.

Sorry buddy, but you ain't getting 320 amps out of a 220V - 50 amp service by pluggin in a 4 blade, I don't care how many breakers you have on there!:sqerr: Aren't those regular 15 amp Edisons on there too? I think I remember my electrician saying that I need to use four blade for the ground, that the three was two hots and a neutral. If you tied straight into the available power feed, you would have whatever total amperage was available, like my house has a 200 amp service. Your tie in line had better be the proper gauge as well.

Steve - BUDDY - I think you need to go back and re-read the post about how the unit was designed. It's versatile enough to where I "COULD THEORETICALLY" pull every bit of 220 volts if I needed to...but with my show, even with everything I had hooked up, I would NEVER need that much power. And your comment about the 50 amp breakers is correct. I had him think of that during construction - I have extra 50 amp breakers that I can install if needed. And NO! - Those are not 15 amp Edisons as you claim.
Everything on the board is hospital grade.
The tie in IS the proper gauge - it's 600 volt copper strand.
maestro 12-25-2006, 11:52 PM You will confuse many guys who will think that you can run all those circuits of one 220V / 50 amp feed. What are your 'hospital grade' outlets rated at? If each one is one a seperate feed, you would need an extension cord capable of carrying a 30 amp load. Way too confusing for most and that box would not meet code in Canada.

That may help me realize this 220 thing a little better. I think I'm gonna start tapping out of the kitchens in venues I go to.
I "currently" use 4 - 20 amp breakers....

I've never blown a 20amper just with what was mentioned. I know the amps are the only thing drawing the real power here, but with all the other stuff, it doesn't add up to me....
Are actual watts the amps are "pushing" regarded as a breakneck limit? Are they the same watts they draw?
Thanks for the formula by the way....I'm going to save that!
DJ SVO 12-31-2006, 05:10 PM Hi JT,
Actually each amp is rated at almost a 10 AMP maximum draw. The other gear doesn't draw that much. As long as you don't run both amps into hard clipping their only going to be drawing @2-2.5 amps each. Once you start running them very hard that draw increases a lot. So I'm guessing you're not pushing them all out.
DJ SVO 12-31-2006, 05:13 PM And the actual power they are pushing is not the same as how much they draw.
DJ SVO 12-31-2006, 05:16 PM JT,

JT, my power conditioners have the voltage and amp draw. If your systems is balanced properly and you have ample headroom you will cruise along without problems giving you good sound without having to run everything at the limit.

Balanced Line 01-02-2007, 07:32 PM Hi JT,

Just to add to what has been said, I looked this up in answer to another post [I wrote] some time ago:
The amplifier’s power supply filter circuits do provide averaging of the power drawn at the line cord. Additionally, most circuit breakers do not trip instantaneously unless the current in very high, as much as 20 times the rated power. At lower current they can allow an over current condition to exist up to two hours for 135% of rated power and two minutes for 200% of rated power.
All told its pretty hard to open the breaker unless you’re grossly over the limit. All this said breakers can be weak and pop at lower than rated ampacity. A good breaker in like new condition will respond as stated above.
djlee 01-03-2007, 12:18 AM Lee,
How many people?
And did you get a date?
Lol, no date. There were, I would guess, about 40-50 people. I had WAY more than enough power for the event. It was my first opportunity to try out my two mackie subs at a smaller event, so I couldn't pass it up. I was very impressed.

Pioneer CMX-3000 dual cd player
Tascam X-15 mixer
DOD SR430QX 15 band stereo EQ
American DJ SC8-FC 8 Channel Lighting switch center (which has recently

Tascam CDA600 Triple tray CD/Cassette recorder/player
The amp rack you see underneath is just one of the racks - but all of my
racks contain:
1) Ashley XR-1001 electronic crossover
1) ETA Power conditioner
2) The latest additions to the lighting and effects arsenal include a
Martin/JEM Magnum 2000 fog machine.
(I wish I could use this thing more often)
(4) Four Martin MX-4's
(2) Two Chauvet Insignia's
I'm also using Yamaha S115V's and S112V's for small to medium venue use and E.V. SX500's for large venue use.
Subs I use are the older E.V. SB180 folded cabinets for large events and
an MTX bandpass sub for smaller events.
I've also built a rolling battle case that houses (2) two Pioneer CDJ-800's and a Gemini PSI 2 channel mixer. I'll try and get a pic of this thing soon.
Enjoy.

It was the closest thing to a Rane I could get. The Rane was a little more expensive than I wanted to spend at the time. I love the X-15. Been using it for about 4 years.

Hopefully one day (IE in a year or two) when I'm in college and unable to handle most of the workload anymore, my brother will take over. I'm trying to gradually get him into it.
My mackies were made in China, and I've had no specific issues with them as of yet. At a homecoming a few months ago I did have some sort of power phasing issue, but I figured out that that was actually the fault of the power outlet that I used, and not the mackies.
So far, I'm lovin' them!
djlee 01-06-2007, 10:11 AM Lee, have you tried placing the subs side by side in front of your booth instead of under your tops?
Thanks for the suggestion. I do this at larger events when I need more bass and also when I'm only using one sub. I've found that when the subs are in front, people find the need to either place drinks/coats/shirts (yes, shirts, big sweaty shirts) on them, or stand on them like it's a stage. I really don't like this, and I feel safer with them on the side. But you're definitely right; the bass output is increased when they are touching each other.
If you know of any way to prevent people from putting stuff and standing on the subs, let me know!

Equipmentwise, I won't through my laundry list... but I love my I Chauvet (4) Intimidators and (1) Insignia.
I will probably be selling all the rest of my (10 or so) spin & pukes in the near future.
Cap Capello 01-06-2007, 01:17 PM HiredPower : Fortunately, in my particular service region and personal DJ presentational style, no lighting is used nor offered.
Way back when for a couple of months, I used a pair of Martin RoboColors (those 4 250w mini-lamps in a Calzone-like transport case) but the extra time and effort to set, break down, adjust, focus, etc, plus the effective and careful (always worried about liability regardless of having insurance or not) use of a fog machine was just not profitable.
The final straw was a huge party at the Saratoga Sheraton perhaps 10 years ago. During the set up test, when I jacked up the fog, every alarm in the entire 1,000 room hotel went off. Nobody told me they had changed the smoke detectors to the newer more sensitive models.
The Fire Chief of the 9 trucks that responded was not happy. :sqmad: Sold everything that week. Haven't had a lighting problem since! :sqwink:

"Do Tell...!" I have a second 802B but have not been taking it out all that much as of late. I have found two of them is a little overkill for the Weddings I do and such. When I have 250 people or more I take out number two for a little more Uuumphh. Would love to hear your suggestion!
BTW, you are officially the first person I know who could identify that speaker. Most are familiar with the 802's of course (Which I also have 3 pair of) but I have ran test after test and can not tell the difference between the 2... I love the sleek look of the 502A, from what I recall reading on another forum, you are a BOSE fan as well, yes?
Cap Capello 01-12-2007, 10:42 PM Big Don : I used the 502 system for a while (up to four 502A, two 502B with the Panaray EDSP).
Take the back of the 502B back plate/cover off. Drill a hole in the back of it and mount a female speak-on (or 1/4" phono) jack and attach a 2' - 3' section of 14 ga speaker wire.
Take an Ultimate Support speaker mount for the 802s. Screw it upside down firmly in the balanced center of the top of the 502B (middle, slightly to the rear of center). Drill a hole in the top of the 502B and the center of the upside down Ultimate Support mount large enough to snake the 14 ga speaker wire up through the hole. Attach a speak-on (or 1/4" phono) connector to the end of the wire.
Take the center section of an Ultimate Support stand and cut to about a 4 foot length (or what ever length that the combo would fit in the lowest ceilinged facility you play). Drill a hole in to top of the pole just below where the 502A bracket slide on it. Fish a wire through the pole, leaving enough length to connect with the jack inside the reversed support bracket as well as reaching the inputs of the 502A and add speak-on (or 1/4" phono) jacks to each end.
Now you can plug your amp outputs to the 502B and the 502A on the back of the 502B. No stands, no dangling wires, and a super clean look.
Kinda like this:

I've had and used JBLs, Peaveys, Altecs, Cerwins, FBTs, BOSE 302, 502s, 802 (Series II and III), MB4s, and the like. It's all equipment history that can stay that way.
BigDon 01-12-2007, 10:59 PM Dude,
Awesome!... That is one hell of a good idea. Basically same concept as pole mounting a 12" or 15" on top of a Sub... I don't know if I could bring myself to do surgery on my babies though. My "McGuyver" skills are not all that great. I just saved the Pic and am gonna show it to my buddy, see if he thinks he can pull that off.
BTW, why did you get rid of the 502A's if you don't mind me asking? Did you go PAS? Scratch that, just took a peek at your web site... So as someone who has used both of these setups, which do you prefer? Have thought about the L1 and have played with it in store... I'm a Bass player so I like my "Ass End" with some thump... how do the little subs compare to the 502B?
Sorry for the 2 million questions, your the only person I have come across that has the exact setup I do.
Cap Capello 01-12-2007, 11:22 PM Big Don : I'll give you a call and we can chat privately. The L1 is a choice target for emotionally charged posts so let's take that phase off-line.
jfactor1 01-12-2007, 11:23 PM Sweet setup Cap!!!
jfactor1 01-12-2007, 11:24 PM Love the "Flying V" Don!!!!
BTW, I really like your setup.
BigDon 01-12-2007, 11:34 PM Thanks jfactor...
The Groom at that wedding is a guitar player for a well known local Chicago band. The whole wall to left of that flying V was lined with 14 vintage guitars, Electric and Acoustic, and the Bridal Party grabbed them one at a time and made a "Guitar Arch" for the bride and groom to walk in under... very unique, was the first and only "Heavy Metal" wedding I have done.

Yes, I recall from the threads on DJChat (Is it OK to mutter those words here? First day and all on this side...) quite the topic of discussion and heated debate. I still don't get why, but whatever... look forward to your input. Please feel free to Mail, Call, whatever... Thanks!
Cap Capello 01-13-2007, 10:05 AM Big Don : Mentioning anything positive about the L1 is no different here as other forums. The fact you even used the name BOSE came as a shock. One can hear four sets of lips biting real hard. :sqwink:
BigDon 01-13-2007, 10:53 AM I shall mention it no more...
Tyrone Blue 01-13-2007, 07:09 PM We can mention Bose and the L1 here. Our members are much more controlled and mature (just don't piss us off). :sqwink:
Interesting that DJChat can be typed in our forum, but ODJT can't be mentioned in theirs.
Fred Stewart 01-13-2007, 09:04 PM Civil discussions and debates are good, of course. If you wish to initiate a discussion on the L1, feel free. This is a business equipment photos thread.
The L1 is not a verboten topic here. Actually, discussion and debate of professional business equipment is good for this industry. For my part I have learned a bit about the L1 just from reading comments from those who work with the system.
That being said, we ask that comments remain civil. I don't think that's too much to ask. :)

BigDon 01-13-2007, 11:10 PM No Problem,
I'm not afraid of a good battle, er' I men civilized discussion, The good Cap gave me a buzz at my humble abode this morning and we talked about the system for a bit. I own all kinds of equipment like all of youz guyz. I also happen to like my Mackies, Yamaha's, Peavey's, and my BOSE stuff!
I have heard the L1, albeit at a GC and not configured correctly, and I want to hear what this thing can do in a room with people in it. The Cap is hookin me up with a local who has one and I will go listen with great interest and If I think it will fit in with what I'm trying to accomplish, and I can afford it, I'm buyin it! Plain and simple. If I think it blows... well I doubt that, but I will evaluate and weigh it all out and as long as I am happy with the purchase why should anyone else give a crap?
That being said thanks again guys, seems like the best of the lot from the "Other" chat board is over here. Have had time to poke around here the past couple of days and seems to be a lot more inteligent discussion and answers here, minus the "Ghetto Prom" thread of course... :sqerr:
jtnichol 01-14-2007, 01:18 AM feel free to talk about anything here...Bose or otherwise...no biggie, I like it all!

Michigan DJ 03-28-2007, 08:23 PM well...here's a few pics of my setup
Middle pic was from the Relay for Life last year at the fairgrounds. I utilized the Fairgrounds loudspeaker system (brand new system) for the most part. That system was really only used for a few artists and opening and closing ceremonies.
Fender Passport 250 Can you get a more versatile portable system? I love it!
2x EV S15-3 3ways These speakers are old as dirt and sound BEAUTIFUL!
The top and bottom pics are both from the same venue (www.castlefarms.com) and both from the same room (Knights Hall). The venue moved the stage halfway thru the season to put the dance floor in the middle of the hall and not on the far end of it.

I did a wedding at the same fairgrounds last summer. The groom told me that I could use the fairground's setup if I wanted. I told him I had it covered.
Well...when I got there I about crapped. Their setup is a big Allen & Heath board, DBX Driverack PA and 4 EV SX300As flown. Man did it sound sweet!!!

Well...when I got there I about crapped. Their setup is a big Allen & Heath board, DBX Driverack PA and 4 EV SX300As flown. Man did it sound sweet!!!
They also have two powered EV 18 inch subs to match...
I have a few weddings there this year, had a few last year...got chummy with the people in charge...they pulled out the subs for me.
One of the best systems I have ever used. I love the mixer!
Valerie Ruste 04-02-2007, 11:10 PM Okay, I had a ton of people asking for pics at the Vegas convention, so here's another round. Done with our first 3 proms of the year....so far small schools with just the little stereo. They get bigger as we go. Here are a few gear-head pics for your interest.
Valerie Ruste 04-02-2007, 11:12 PM And for those asking about the mirror ball.....

audiopyle 04-03-2007, 02:52 AM Here's a setup I've been experimenting with recently. This is 4 - SLS Loudspeakers LS6593S columns (stacked 2 per side) on top of RCF 4PRO8001A subs. The columns each have 6 x 5.25" woofers and 9 X 3" ribbon drivers for the high frequency, so there's a dozen woofers and 18 ribbon tweeters per side. These columns are passive. I'm driving them with a PLX3002 amp.

maestro 04-03-2007, 01:15 PM Mike, wouldn't you experience the 'power alley' cancellation effect with the subs set up like that?

That's always a possibility when you split up the subs, but it depends a lot on the distance and other |
