Do you perform??? How many of you do weddings only??? We do Weddings, Anniversaries, birthdays, college formals, limited school dances, ie: Proms, semi's.

I can't say we'll never do bars again..

YOU?

I will do any event that I feel I can successfully execute for a client. If I have any doubts, I don't do it. I made the mistake before of putting all my eggs in one basket. Versatility is the key.

We've pretty much retired from anything other than upscale weddings and black tie events. That said, we will accommodate a past client or referral at the Legion or VFW when possible. :)

Don't even mention bars, lol. They're still paying the same farm labor wages they were paying in '93. I am serious. They still want a DJ company all night for $150.00.

We have performed at nearly every type of event except bar/bat mitzes (NEVER gotten a call for one of those). We nowadays specialize in school dances with an occasional community or corporate event. The other half of our business is a/v work for primarily corporate/conference events.

Anything the client wants but bars. Won't do them anymore. I can't stand the smoke and the drunks.

Like Fred, I'm retired from actual gigging (software business is far easier, and busier), and like Val, I've never done a Bar/Bat (could be the Christian thing :)).

Mostly weddings over the 30 so years -- maybe 70-80% or so.

If I were to jump back in, it would be bars though. Yeah, the pay sucks -- but the tips are incredible, it's easy work, no supervision by bridezilla, etc. Adult bars are my fav -- I was doing many hundreds per night (money, that is) :)

No real equipment investment, just bring yer music, and live like a transient, as they kick you out when the next hotshot comes along...

Majority is Weddings, we do a few private parties, a couple of corporate events, several outdoor fundraisers, a couple of local community events for the Chamber of Commerce and throw in several charity events and you pretty much have what we do.

Haven't done bars in over 15 years. If the right situation came up, I'd consider it since Illinois is now a "smoke free state" the drunks don't bother me as I bartended for many years.

Right now, we do a little over 30 events total each year.

I just noticed, that 2 out of 9 mentioned smoke free (Dude's charts must be getting to me -- I'm going number crazy :)).

On the other hand, I wouldn't work where smoking was NOT allowed. See, there is a place for everyone

Smoke don't bother us. The VFW, Moose and Legion are all exempt from the smoking ban. It's not kind to the rat fur, though... but that's what Febreze is for. Besides, in these houses, we can smoke at the console and keep an ashtray on the table. :)

I quit marketing to bars for a couple reasons. One, as Rick mentioned, they'll give you the shoe when someone offers to undercut you by a few bucks. Two, the twenty-something drunks were more than I was willing to tolerate for a measly $150.00.

If you want to hear a song, fine. But don't get in my face and act like Napoleon. I've got a daughter older than you, Son. She never talked to me that way. Neither will you... so get the puck outta my face.

Thats big money around here they want to pay 40 to 50 bucks per night using thier system

These days we mainly do weddings, Anniversaries, and corporates but we don't turn down anything that suits our talents and price range. In the last couple of years we have lightly marketed to teen events as we hired a guy who can do a real good job at them and plan to put a real push on in the new school year

I have done a little bit of everything but these days, Sandy and I just do weddings.

We have priced ourselves out of the corporate and private party market. Not to mention that weddings are what we both enjoy and are very good at.

98% weddings, a few company Christmas parties, and an occasion 40+ birthday party. Absolutely NO school dances or bars. I did these years ago.
There are enough weddings in my market area to keep me busy.

Corporate events, Private events including anniversaries, Bar/Bas/Bat-Mitsvahs, graduations, birthdays, hall events.

Will never do weddings again once my commitments are fulfilled. I've gotten to the point where I won't do what I don't enjoy- and I have learned to HATE all of the crap involved with weddings. My corporates pay only slightly less or the same, and they're FUN!. No Proms or school dances. CAN- but WON"T.

Now I do several bar gigs per week- every week. Unlike many here, I LOVE it. My favorite. People forget that the reason for the lower pay is that bar shows are the only ones run for PROFIT. Private events are expected to be a financial loss, and they are one shot ( rather than weekly) jobs. First, the lower pay is part of a volume discount for me ( Though I do charge a bit more than 150.oo).

I can truthfully say that I get AT LEAST 80% of my private events through my bar exposure, and they PAY ME for this free advertising, and more than makes up for the lower than private fee. As I have said before: I believe that any mobile entertainer who doesn't do at least one bar show per week is probably screwing themselves out of an IMMENSE amount of revenue.

So: Bars - #1, Corporate- #2, Hall Events- #3, Other Private- #4

We do almost any kind of event. Our staple is weddings / schools and youth (including Bar/Bat Mitzvahs, Quinces, Sweet 16's) / and corporate. We don't do bars / nightclubs (have in the past, but really don't like the environment). We haven't done any commitment ceremonies (and don't plan to), but there isn't very many events that we haven't or won't do.
