My Seagate Free Agent took a crap on me tonight. I knew when I bought it I should have taken it back. The way it's built just says trouble. I use maxtors and have never had a single problem. I also have 6 - 500 gig westen digitals never a single problem, i like the brick size of the western digital.

Let's see if Seagate will give me a new one.

I'm a WD fan myself. Benn running WD for years, very minor problems. Internal and now 4 external WD hard drives. So far, so good.

I had 2 options they would let me replace it for free if I sent it to them they would send me a new one. or if I paid $20 they would send me a new drive and a return label.

Had a Maxtor 300, and before I could even back the data in it (over 50,000 tracks) it bombed on me. They gave me my money back, but I lost at least a week of half of the songs I put in there.

Bought a WD USB (160g), the best purchase of my life, in addition I bought a WD "Book" (500g) for back up....
I had a LeCie 160g for over three years, never a single problem.

If you have seen the seagate freeagents they have a base that is permantly attached that holds the drive verticle. It looks and feels flimsy and top heavy.

If you're not a fan of Seagate, look out for those Maxtors. Seagate bought them.

I have a Seagate 400 Gig External at home that is a replacement for the original that went South two years ago right after I bought it..I took their $20. deal for replacement..On the other hand,I have been gigging with an 80 Gig Maxtor for over Two and a Half years without one problem..Interesting thing is the Seagate just sits in one place but the Maxtor has been on the road since day one..I also have 160 Gig HP Personal Media Drives that have been trouble free.
