Equipment Debate

Folks, i will admit when I need some assistance, and no this is not a playlist thread. I recently went to the brand new opened guitar center in our town and looked at ALL the equipment and played around too  I would like to ask your opinion because I saw two items that really caught my eye.

[off topic]
I did see the bose system, even equed it out, and was unable to call it satisfactory. My mackie system sounded better to me, I even compared the equipment, demoed mackie vs. bose. Mackie one in my opinion.

Anyways, on to lighting. I saw the accuspot250 by american DJ, and the LED PAR Cans by American DJ, both dazzled my mind. I know what i'm pretty much getting, however I would like to ask for the general opinion on what you would use. I know I saw somebody on the board uses them. However I might possibly be doing lighting rentals for bands so in that case PAR 64's would work awesome, not to mention cheaper and brighter.

Your input is greatly appreciated, and i will take it with a grain of salt. I'm not looking for a war here. :)

You want the Truth? YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

OK. Sorry. I had to.

If you already know what you are getting with ADJ gear, then what can be said.

I own and have owned, and used many brands of lighting gear. I have never found any evidence that could contradict the old "You get what you pay for" philosophy.

As for the par cans. I know guys that have volumes more lighting experience than I, and the jury is split. Some say a Par64 can is a Par64 can is a Par 64 can. It doesn't matter who's name is on the label. Others swear by and use only certain brands, like Altman. I have no opinion on PARs as I've always had good luck with the generic model I get from my supplier.

Intelligent fixture are an entirely different beast but, as I said in the beginning, "I have never found any evidence that could contradict the old 'You get what you pay for' philosophy."

Know your budget and get the you can within it.

Hey Travis,
The accuspot looks like a cool light. I went to guitar center and it was waayy better than the dj spot (discharge lamp). Very Bright!

-Brian

BTW, I think prosound had them for $699 at one time.

I tend to agree with Rox... you'll never get more than you pay for.

The ADJ lighting brand is great for weekend warriors. Not sure I'd wish to take it on the road and tour with it, though.

As far as sound gear goes, trust two things only: your ears and your purse. If you prefer the sound of one brand or model over another, you'll continue to prefer it when you're out there earning a paycheck with it. Never, ever settle for less just because it costs less.

Hope it helps.

So this is a no on the LED Par Cans? I haven't gotten a straightfoward answer.

Greets, Travis.

Only you can answer this question. How do the LEDs look to you? How do they compare to incandescent PARs?

Try 'em out in a darkened room with some haze if you can.

Hope it helps.

To me it seems like a great purchase to getting into DMX Stuff, why?
I do not need a controller for them if I do not wish to purchase one at the time. I would like to just purchase four so $800 worth of LED par cans, on soundactive mode. To me it just seems like the best option. Verses possibly cheap moving yokes which will crap out and cost double than the par cans.

You can get LED pars from Weidemark for $130 each. Tyrone Blue has 8 and our very own Basic has some as well.

I have 4 LED's (weidamark) ..very light....very bright. Think of it..it's like having 32, as they change to whatever colour you want. Haven't tried them live. Both tyrone Blue and YBDJ swear by 'em.....

I am going to pick up 4 of those myself and also get Tyrone's programming book.
Sounds like the hot ticket.
