Before I start this topic, I would just like to say that any opportunity you have in your life to surround yourself with the people that you love, it is a truly wonderful experience.

Promised some photos from my recent birthday party so this is kind of a mix of work and some personal photos.

Quite a few clients tell me that they would like something different for a birthday party, so I decided to make an example out of my own party to try it out.

Began with a Hollywood Theme, the invitations stated that it would be a Red Carpet Event. The guests really got into it, most people were dresses to the nines. Added photo opportunities, face cut out poses, posing with Elvis, posing with Marilyn, Hollywood walk of Fame, The Red carpet, and a balloon arch.

A local private club offered for me to use their banquet room, it was a little rough but could definitely use it to show a transformation with decorations. These photos go in steps from what it looked like when we started.

I then spoke to some of my friends that had a talent of some kind for different skits or performances. Lip syncing, dancing anything I could think of. For the entrance of each act, I used a movie fanfare of some kind 20th century fox, powerful instrumentals to get everyone's attention. So we had started with a clogger(to Rocky Top), The Village People (YMCA), Dance and vocals for Vanilla Ice, Kid Rock, and the Blues Brothers. These all went over huge. The only one that was a professional was the clogger, everyone else just made it up as they went along. The response was awesome people loved it.

I also gave out "academy awards". I did some reading to familiarize myself with some different awards and put my own spin on it. So first was " Most dramatic actress and actor in a dramatic series". Of course they had to give an acceptance speech these were a hoot. Also gave away best dressed actor and actress, best supporting actress and actor. Anyway people just ate it up couldn't have went better. Eventually the plan is to feature different themes and some unique activities to go along with them and offer it to my clients that would like "something different".

Great Idea......We at my Country Club have done themes each year for our New Years Eve Parties. Lasy Year was "At The Movies" featuring the classics, we had our Golf Pro as Humphrey Bogart and our events coordinator as Marilyn Monroe. The whole room was decorated in old movie clips, we had a red carpet a photographer.....fun for all. This year the theme is "The Loveboat"

We just recently had a "lipsycning" night....big hit......

Excellent Idea Carolyn.........

Speaking of theme parties.... I just got back from the store where I found an interesting magazine that might be of interest if you are becoming involved with the planning of a Halloween Party. It's called "Halloween Tricks & Treats" from Better Homes and Gardens It has things from how to carve a pumpkin, to making party favors, and decorations, to kids costumes to recipes for various sweet treats, there even a small section on Halloween Wedding ideas. So help them do it themselves on the food, favors and decorating so they'll have money to spend on the DJ.

Thanks Jim and Doug, great suggestions.

What I was thinking is music and activities to go along with their theme. Leave the decorating to them. However it would definitely help the commission from sales when you use a party supply link.

Carolyn thinking outside of the box has enhanced your company beyond what youll ever know put it in place and you will see great results perhaps you might need to consider traveling outside podunk Florida though to seek your dreams. Just a thought. Please dont take this in a negative way sis.

We missed you there Lito, sorry you couldn't make it.

Why would I take that negatively Jon?

I think it will do well here though, working on some other ones as we speak. I think that if you are able to work in some activities and correlating music into the theme party it would be more entertaining rather than costumes alone.

Looks like a blast Carolyn!

One of my favorite events is the theme party. I really get into them.

Here is a tid bit that has worked well from past theme parties to add to your arsenal of fun.

Depending on the theme. Like the Hollywood gala you did. Put a small piece of tape on the back of each guest with an actors/actresses name. Each guest must try to give clues to who is on the other guests back without saying who it is. If the guest guesses correctly who is on their back from the clues given, the person giving the clues takes the tape with the name. The one with the most names wins! Your winner can be your dancing Queen/King that starts the nights dancing off crown and all!
A fun little icebreaker with big results!
