Instant messaging revisited....Papa Deuce 09-08-2007, 01:45 AM Which one can I trust not to put a bunch crapware on my machine? Nothing AOL will be tolerated.... SoftJock Rick 09-08-2007, 01:57 AM Conversation is over-rated! Open a good book, and go sit outside and read it -- it's nice out, maybe a touch warm, but good breeze... DJ Dan 09-08-2007, 02:08 AM Pidgin (www.pidgin.im) formerly named Gaim. Connect to all protocols (AOL/ICQ/Yahoo/Jabber/MSN) at once, it's open source so no crap ware. The only draw back to it is sometimes you cannot do more advanced stuff like transfer files. The positives are many: One program running using less memory, you can connect to multiple screen names at once on the same service, etc. Give it a try. (moved to computer & tech) Fred Stewart 09-08-2007, 06:42 AM Greets, Papa. We've been using Trillian (http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/) for IM services for years. It's a great, free utility and you don't need the original IM installs on your machine to use it. ICQ was great before they started those damn ads. Yahoo IM was great before they started loading your machine down with crap. With Trillian, you can utilize these IM services and more ~ without downloads and installs... and without the ads. Just start Trillian and all your IM contacts will be available at once. :) Hope this helps. DougF 09-08-2007, 04:06 PM Ditto what Dan said. Pidgin or Gaim as it was once know is great! In fact it looks to be the best option if you are a Linux user. Jeff Romard 09-09-2007, 08:27 AM Ive used Trillian before its the best Ive found besides the original clients Travis B 09-09-2007, 07:45 PM I use trillian, love it. Haven't really played with Gaim but I have heard lots about it. Your mileage will vary but good suggestions have already been written.
