Combine forums?

Hey Guys,

We've added a lot of subforum recently, many of them aren't getting many posts. What do you think of making one "big" forum with the other forums as subforums.

For instance corporate gigs & teen dances would be made subforums of a new forum called "Speciality DJs" and be displayed on forum home like this:

This way everything would still be visable just not taking up as much space on the homepage.

Your thoughts?

Thanks,
Dan

This conversation was initiated by the post regarding the DJ Revolution Blog. The discussion started because there wasn’t a whole lot of bloggin’ goin’ on. NOT my observation mind you. I submitted that it wasn’t a case of one particular forum it was a matter of too many in general. If you have only slightly over double the number of members that you do forums, the grass ain’t gonna grow in places.

My suggestion has nothing to do with the relative merits of any individual forum. They all look like a good idea and will be a good idea when the traffic grows to support them. Seriously, I would not want to be the one to decide thumbs up or down on any of ‘em. When you look at the last post date and nothing has been posted for a week or more it makes the site look dead. The casual surfer that happens upon the site and never returns because it looks inactive.

I compared it to building a mansion for a small family. It takes a bit of wandering around before you bump into a family member. If you agree or disagree speak up or for ever hold your pieces.

Johnny, What's with hating on the teen dance forum?

In other news I don't want to remove forums just like to make some of the lesser ones sub forums to make navigation easier and clean up the long list on forumhome (the index)

I think combining them for now is a good idea. We can always separate them as the site grows.

What's with the hate on for the Teen Dance forum Johhny? You don't do Teen Dances, so why would you care whether it exists or not?

As for combining some of the forums, I don't agree that this should be done. Besides, what is the difference between the forums being forums or subforums other than main page layout?

With 68 members, we can't expect any forum to be busy at this point, but as the site grows, that should change. Take the 'other' site as an example, with 20,000+ members, some forums are still 'slow' at times.

Give the site a chance before we start peeling back it's offerings.

I'm with Chaos, please give it a chance before changing it. There are many different DJ's that target different markets and to eliminate any of the forums would feel like exclusion. Just a little patience, everything is going to be great. The big show is way too general for everything to be included there.

Removing my vote as you's have changed my mind now we have 3 way tie.

I propose we leave the forum structure in place and see how it works out as we grow..Good?

Sounds good to me. I did not vote because it honestly makes no difference to me...as long as we get rid of the...oh, nevermind.
