Hardest karaoke songs that YOU sing.

Here's a chance to blow your own horn. What are the hardest karaoke songs that you sing?

Give the song and your reason why it's hard. It could be because it's lightning fast, or just a stretch of your singing capabilities.

I'll start us off...

Snow-Informer (nuff said)

REM-It's The End Of The World As We Know It (see above :) )

AC/DC-all of them (I figured out how to scream like Brian Johnson in a drunken stupor :) )

Kiss-Cold Gin (Gene's low raspy singing is WAY below my normal singing voice. This song KILLS me. I can do AC/DC all night, but after this one, I'm done)

Bon Jovi-Livin' On A Prayer

One time hit the high note in Dream On. The place went nuts. The next morning my vocal chords were so swollen, I could barely talk. (I don't do this one anymore :) )

One time a group of girls came to the bar and said they had to go out cause their relative just committed suicide. They made a dedication to him and sang Eternal Flame.

An hour later I decided to belt out some Pearl Jam. Jeremy.

Got halfway through the song and remembered what the song is about and the girls at the bar. DOH!

Finishing that song was tough.

Livin On a Prayer is tough as is House of the rising Son.
Everlast, Creed, David Lee Roth most challenging but doable for me. Roy Orbison, Some Elvis,Ricky Nelson and Van Morrison on my reoccuring sing list.

Just kidding. Don't sweat it. Remember a few years ago how many people wanted to hear Picture at a wedding?

Janis Joplin, Me and Bobby McGee, Piece of my heart Blew a vocal cord with that one once.

Old Time Rock n Roll - some high parts for me but the cheese works

In The Arms Of An Angel Lyrics - Sarah McLachlan any time someone passes I am asked to sing that it is freakin high and depressing.

Love doing the Beatles, Matchbox 20, The Romantics, Fleetwood Mac, Train

My voice is pretty deep so songs that have woman singing are usually tough for me.

I don't have the greatest voice on the planet AT ALL!!!

But, I have on occasion just nailed "Amazed" By Lonestar. The tuff part is the triple key change toward the end of the song.

I have had some really great success with it, and murdered it a few times too.

Keep It FUN !!

I generally don't sing at my own shows, but the hardest songs I do are

1. Three Inch Tool > Hard to keep a straight face.......
2. Ballad of a Dog Named Stains > same as above......
3. Masochism Tango > again the same......
4. F88K Her Gently > same reason.....

Crazy, Gnarls Barkley > frigging Falsetto

The Cult - Fire Woman
Night Ranger - Sister Christian
Disturbed - Down With The Sickness

Those would be the hardest I think for others to sing.

I really don't have trouble singing anything, unsless it's something really high in pitch like Stryper or Queensryche.

I do alot of metal a few raps songs, and anything i can think of, even when I wasn't DJing or KJing I went to karaoke 5 nights a week.

The hardest songs for me are the ones I like to do by Journey: Faithfully, Girl Can't Help It, The Eyes of a Woman, Why Can't This Night Go On, Open Arms, Separate Ways (Worlds Apart), etc. etc. I have to practice on a regular basis to keep that kind of range and it's still work to hit and hold those high notes like Perry does!

The next hardest is Candlebox - Far Behind, well within my natural range but demanding on breathing technique and usually results in my vocal cords getting a bit of a flat tire after the ending...lol

Both would likely be a lot easier if I could kick the smoking habit though...

Have to keep my voice in shape to do Blue by Leann Rimes. But...For a Guy....I can still hit 'em.
Sold (Grundy County Auction) is a tough one to keep up with as well as "The Auctioneer"
Ah, Well, alright now.....Somebody gimme a $30 dollar bid....Now...

For hard songs, I don't know if these count or not, but I do a few that are a stretch.
Johnny B. Good
No Surprise - Theory of a Deadman (a bit of screaming in that one)
Just Once - Quincy Jones/James Ingram (goes a bit high)
Fuel - Bad Day
Sold (like many of you already said)
Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down (have to take a deep breath in a lot of places since theres no place to breathe again, lol)

Jay Black - Cara Mia, Though I've pretty much lost this one these days

Elvis- If I Can Dream - lotta shifts

Mongomery Gentry - Gone - Compensating for a duet, like singing Simon & Garfunkel, which I also do

On a kamikazee night I did a Motley Crue song and I didn't think it wasn't that bad.... so I tried a different song from them..... Same Ol Situation, that was pushing the limits of my voice.

When I'm not working, I go out and visit another friends' show, everytime I go there somebody will allways come up to me to request me sing South Park's Eric Cartman - Come Sail Away. With the amount of cigs that I smoke it is getting harder & harder to sing. Last week 2 gals shoved $20 down my pants to sing the song and I was like.... uh.... ok!!!

I was glad it was the last song of the night for me cause it just kills my throat.

I used to do Guns & Roses 'Welcome to the Jungle', but the crowds I'm working now don't really like this song so naturally I don't sing it anymore. Many of the 80's Rock songs I do are not appreciated by the Country Western and Oldies preferring patrons at the shows I am presently working, so I don’t sing that much anymore.

I used to be able to hit the really high notes, but as I get older I just can't do what I used to do. I think part of the reason is that I took a few years 'vacation' from singing and the vocal muscles/vocal muscle memory have deteriorated.

USED TO be able to:
Hit the high notes in Aerosmith - Dream On
Hit the high notes in Def Leopard - Love Bites
Hit the high notes in Shid Row - 18 and Life

CAN STILL DO (on a good night)
Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer
All Motley Crue / Imitate Vince Neil
Skid Row - Youth Gone Wild
Most 80's Hard Rock

There ya go...:sqwink:

Ummm... I just joined, but I'll chime in and maybe revive this thread.

I'll ditto Carolyn on Piece of My Heart - to do Janis, your voice has to come from your toes :)

Bring Me To Life - Evanescence - right in my vocal break

It's All Coming Back To Me Now - Celine Dion - add almost anything from Jim Steinman. The man is genius, but you have to find somewhere to breathe and have at least a 5-octave range.

Crazy On You, Heartless, Barracuda - Heart

Oh, I forgot Eyes Of A Stranger, Silent Lucidity - Queensryche

Hardest songs I've tried to sing..

Letsee.. the first song I ever tried at karaoke was "Higher and Higher" by jackie wilson. Now for those of you who don't know.. Jackie Wilson is a singer from the sixties and is a HIGH tenor.. I, on the other hand am a low bass or maybe a baritone on a REALLY good day. You do the math *lol*

That being said I love trying to do Roy Orbison.. that guy knew how to SING!

If I feel like making an ass of myself, or proving that you don't have to sing well to do karaoke I'll try something like AC/DC's "Thunderstruck"

But one of the hardest songs I do is the commitments version of "Try a Little Tenderness" i just can't seem to get the timing of the song for some reason.

Also I have attempted "One Week" by the Bare Naked Ladies.. to very disasterous results.. *lol*

But I love to try new songs, because it forces me to grow as a singer.

take care all

The hardest song I sing?

None at all. I have to sit through watching people ruin songs I love to sing, that's hella hard.

Though I have been known to do the Freddy Mercury Under Pressure duet with Tal at the end of the night, but that's only because he buys me dennys.

Probably "Famous Last Words" and "Welcome To The Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance.

The "we'll CARRY on" at the end of Welcome To The Black Parade is hard to do even for the original singer live, and the "or dead" at the end of Famous Last Words is like a cheap shot, because in the original song, it's the backup guy who does the note in the background while the lead does the chorus.. but on the karaoke version I've seen, they make you do the back-up vocals at the end instead (actually says "or dead.." on the screen) which caught me off-guard, which ain't cool since it's definately a note you need to do.

Not sure what the actual note is, but it's a really high chest-voice one.
I think it might be like a C5 or a D5.. not sure.

Wow a lot of topics being revived, that's great.

I also wanted to add that if you REALLY want to force yourself to grow and continually challenge yourself vocally, try and start singing show tunes.

Anyone who can master ANY song from the Phantom of the Opera has my eternal respect! :)

take care

Another one that I found to be challenging is Mercy Me - I Can Only Imagine. It's not too bad until just before the end with some highs that are tough for me to hold.

Wow! Very ambitious. Les Miserable is even harder than the Phantom but you are correct in that most karaoke venues don't have a lot of broadway style musical selections.

Legends has a broadway series of discs that are very reasonably priced if you ever have the extra cash to invest in 'obscure' music.

The quality isn't as good as soundchoice or zoom, but it's better than nothing and definately a good way to practice new songs that you don't currently own.

Or i suppose you could just sing along to a cd, but I wouldn't do that at karaoke... :)

Why not? At least half my regular singers travel with their own discs. A lot of people prefer to sing the version that they practice at home... No Biggie.

That's fine if it works for you, but most of the singer's say that the vocals distract them too much to do a decent job.. *shrug*

James, I'm not sure if you were replying to my post. If so, I meant there is no problem playing a singer's own karaoke disc. No vocals.

In regard to regular CDs, my mixer has VCM, so if the singer knows the song without needing the lyrics I can cancel the vocals on the disc.

jclaydon
07-04-2008, 02:08 AM
Does that work? Most of the mixers I've tried tend to cancel out most of the music as well as the vocals. If so, which mixer are you using Joe, i would love to get something that actually works. :)

I've always wanted to know how to cancel out vocals so I can make my own little karaoke stuff to tracks no one has..

Like "last night" by Az Yet, and some opera stuff "canto della terra" by Andrea Bocelli, stuff like that.
..and yeah, some broadway stuff.. need more people with Moulin Rouge stuff too, once I found "Your Song" Moulin Rouge style at a karaoke and tore the joint up.

It only REALLY works if you're an Electronic Engineer who knows how to design, build and piggyback a board onto an existing mixer. Wish I could be more help.

On the other hand, the the standard VCM function on a decent mixer will take out the lead vocals and only snip a bit out of the music's edges, mostly in midrange. Proper music mixing can hide enough of that to get away with a karaoke song or two.

If the disc happens to be an old left side vocal stereo type ( rare these days) you're in like Flynn :sqwink:

Plenty of software out there for that, and most of it worthless. PC driven mixing software either leaves to much of the vocals or deletes too much of the music. Not to mention the fact that there's a question of legality.

I only sing one song and it's easy.
Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel
But I can turn it out! At least the alcohol makes me believe that.

Last time I did it, I spent $200 getting everyone drunk around me on my birthday before I went up there. Yes, they cheered.

But again, I think it was the alcohol cheering.
