Yeah, I know...I'm way behind on this...but I was busy this Summer and now that my slow season has started, I thought I'd play catch-up.

Well, here come my "biased" opinions.

Prime Cuts Weekly Release - 07/06/07

1.) Stay – Simply Red
Very nice radio song, but I haven’t heard it played anywhere around here. I could see sneaking this into a dinner set.

2.) Wake Up Call – Maroon 5
Yes, I know a lot of people don’t like this band, but I think this is a very catchy tune. It didn’t seem to get a lot of airplay around this general area. Haven’t played it once.

3.) Hot, Bangin’, Supa Sexy – Audio Club
Sounds like an updated kind of “Roxette” sound. Solid beat with minimal rap thrown in to make it “modern”. This is one song that I hoped would take off and get popular, but it didn’t.

4.) Lovestoned/I Think She Knows – Justin Timberlake
Nowhere as popular as “Sexyback”, but I find this one a whole lot more enjoyable and listenable. Last couple of receptions this song did very well as far as filling the dance floor with a wide variety of ages. I made the mistake of playing the whole song (kind of goes nowhere, beat wise) and the next time I played it I went to another song around the 3:45 mark, which worked quite well.

5.) Promise Ring – Tiffany Feat. Ciara
Warble, warble….just skip this one. It's one of those songs that the melody line reminds you of a nursery rhyme song. Bores me to tears.

6.) Freaky Gurl – Gucci Mane
Rick James needs to come back from the dead and show this “poser” how it’s really done. Lame…..

7.) My Girl Gotta Girlfriend – Ray Lavender
Thump, Thump, Thump. Slow, repetitive and one would think that with a name like Ray Lavender, the song would have been titled “My Boy Gotta Boyfriend”. This is the kind of crap you hear booming in the cars as they go by your house in the middle of the night.

8.) Crank Dat Soul Ja Boy (Supaman) – Soulja Boy
Releases like this, reminds me why I don’t do Schools. This makes “Umbrella” seem like classical music in comparison. Hand me the razor blades please, I need to slit my wrists. Had this requested about 4 weeks in a row, before I decided to play it. Cleared the dance floor and the kids that requested didn’t even dance to it. This is now on my personal do not play list, as I don’t have this song…if asked.:sqwink:

9.) Almost Made Ya – Ali & Gipp Feat. Letoya
This song “almost made it”. It starts out with some promise, then degenerates as soon as the “rap” kicks in….Yawn

10.) Take Me There – Rascal Flatts
Not one of my favorites, but it fills the dance floor and is really popular around here.

11.) What Kinda Gone – Chris Cagle
Nice, but it’s “kinda” of a forgettable song. Haven’t had one request for this one and local Country radio didn’t play this much.

12.) Firecracker – Josh Turner
This song has fun lyrics, with a nice country-rock beat that fills the floor. Like Mr. Turner’s voice and this is doing quite well on local Country Radio.

13.) Breathe Into Me – Red
Sounds like they are channeling about every other hard rock band that’s out there, with the “growling” verses and a catchy chorus (chorus is actually sung quite well and can’t understand the need to “growl”). I’ll have to admit that the guitar riff and chorus does stick in my brain.

14.) Time Is Running Out – Papa Roach
Hands down, I like this tune. May not compare with “Scars”, but it’s got the hooks and the beat!

15.) Sweep The Leg – No More Kings
Hands down this is my favorite song on this compilation. Of course this means that it will never be popular. This song just creeps into my brain and won’t go away.

16.) Time Won’t Let Me Go – (Tall Paul Remix Edit) – Bravery
Not overly thrilled with this one. It seems very derivative of Naked Eyes.

17.) Stay – (7th Heaven Radio Edit) – Simply Red
Nice dance mix of a very good radio song. Works for me.

18.) Signature Of Divine (Yahweh) – Need To Breathe
Very well done Contemporary Christian Rock, it’s got guitars, a sing-a-long chorus and real drums.

19.) Coming Back To Life – Echoing Angels
Nothing here to grab my attention, so let’s move on to the last song.

20.) Right Now – This Beautiful Republic
It’s got that sound (think All-American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, etc.) and overall it’s a nice medium tempo rock song.

AC - 1
CHR - 2-5, 15
URBAN - 5-9
COUNTRY - 10-12
ROCK - 13-15
DANCE - 16 & 17
CHRISTIAN - 18-20

In our area "crank that" is the #1 request by far and fills the floor everytime. There is a dance that goes along with it that everyone knows...it's like watching a TV musical when all these kids are doing the same dance. Musically the song sucks, but I like the beat and understand the appeal. But then again I like rap and hip/hop. Thanks for taking the time to put this together...you should do it for every month!!!!!:sqwink:

Thanks Kris, That's why I don't market myself to schools and leave it to you youngsters that have the expertise, knowledge and the desire to do those events.

I get the Weekly Prime Cuts, so I'm working on getting myself caught up....
Next thread will have releases for 07/13/07, it just takes me a while to listen to the discs again and try to type something coherent (which doesn't always work out). :sqwink:

There are some other threads that I have posted for the weekly releases going back to 05/18/07 (I believe that's when I started this). They are somewhere in the "Music" forum.

Back to my typing.
