I'd like to find out what you do for travel fees and when do they start?? ie: $1per mile and they start when you leave your area..???
Start when you leave the office???
Thanks!

From my contract:
1. Mileage. A mileage fee will be added if the event is out of our general service area which is approximately 30 miles from Long Prairie, MN. These cities would be free mileage. Freeport, MN, Alexandria, MN, Little Falls, MN, Sauk Centre, MN Bertha, MN, Staples, MN and all areas in between. Out of this area a mileage fee of $35 will be added up to 50 miles. A fee of $50 will be added if the event is 51 – 75 miles away. If over 75 miles, the fee will be determined by Multiple Choice DJ based on that event location using Mapquest.

We charge per mile from our home town to the city of the event. Mapquest or Rand McNally get me a number in the ballpark. We charge round trip (they pay both coming and going). Currently our mileage is $1.25/mi.

In Canada... Just a minivan... (Not the 53' Transport Truck that Valerie Ruste take around) I do the first 50 KM complementary, anything over gets charged 50 cents per KM... Depending on the client, I will change them the whole way, or just for the additional distance....
But it is always charged both ways...

No charge for anything within a 70 mile radius. (Rethinking this one.)
Anything over 70 miles, 50 cents per mile (both ways) from our door to their event and back.

We typically cut off no travel costs at 70 miles. The cost of travel would be assessed at 75 cents per mile round trip beyond that. Should the trip involve more than four hours travel time we will often make arrangements for local lodging.
Delaware is a small state. There aren't a lot of long-distance shows booked around here.

I don't start charging until the venue is more than 50 miles from my zipcode... for example I have one that is 53mi away and I charge $50 for it... but it's not a per mile charge when we get more than 100 mi. away I calculate mathmatically and then round up.

I know my area, I cover a big service area.
I live close to the county line. I charge $50 for anything that is not in my county or the county closest to me. Generally there are 3 citys in 3 countys I book weddings. The longest trips are about 50 to 60 miles each way.
My rule is if it takes me an hour or more to get ther I chage an extra $50.

Same boat as Cameron, more than an hour away, its the cost of a fill-up - so $50 this year (who knows next year).
