Jon Tuck 02-04-2008, 08:46 AM Its weird he was featured in a episode of CSI recently and saw him somewhere else showcased but they havent figured where to put him on the airwaves I guess.
Jeff Romard 02-04-2008, 08:52 AM He is one of the few on the "other" side of the fence that could be mainstream easily...I think he's got the Waylon thing attached to him. Country radio is so far removed from country music that they wont play anyone with the name Jennings, Cash, Williams, or Jones anymore
Jon Tuck 02-04-2008, 08:55 AM He claims he is southern rock last time I heard. Which is sort of out dated so perhaps thats whats keeping him down. He does sound hauntingly like his Dad at times.
Jon Tuck 02-04-2008, 08:56 AM I just remembered where I heard him another time. On David Letterman. Paul and band sang backup on that one single. Paul and band should have remained silent as they stunk up the song.

New song, Matt mentioned it.. Not too bad, typical Rap stuff though.
Fred Stewart 02-10-2008, 09:33 PM Thanks, Kirb. :)
I'll second the mention of Tracy Byrd. He's one of the good ones. I really miss him. He released a lot of good 2-steppers in the day. Tracy Byrd was what Kenny Chesney is in Country today.
I made up a 23 track comp from his earlier albums and all the songs he's released since from CDX. Guess Ten Rounds With Jose Cuervo was his last big hit. He released a few more songs after that but they didn't hit the big time.

I'll have to admit that I wasn't familiar with Mr. Byrd's music until Coreen and I got together and she had this particular disc and turned me onto his music.
I quite enjoy his music and may have to dig into his discography and get some more of his music. It's a shame that the only song of his that we get to play is "Watermelon Crawl"....

I've got a couple of promo's as I used to work for the record company that distributed his stuff in the UK. Also got a promo of the Swing Cats featuring Slim Jim Phantom (although it says 'Phanton' on the CD) and Lee Rocker. Of course, I loved the Stray Cats, and have got all of their albums on vinyl, some, including a couple of 'best of's' on CD too.
Aside from this, on my player at the moment is Donald Fagen's 'Kamakiriad', which will be followed by Sparks - 'Kimono My House', featuring 'This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us'. Great stuff!!
......This Donald Fagen is great though.........:sqcool:

jclaydon 02-23-2008, 07:56 PM i don't usually listen to music when I'm on the computer. Unless I'm double checking for the sound qaulity of a certain song for karaoke or otherwise.
But when I do like to listen to music, I listen to a lot of sixties music. There is just something about that era that to me is absolutely timeless. Back in the days when you actually had to have some TALENT to make it big.. :sqcool:

Ok, here is what you do. When spring arrives in a few months and you come down from the mountains for your annual trip to Wal-Mart, go to the cd section and get yourself some Phil Collins, Steve Winwood, Cheap Trick, Huey Lewis, Bob Seger etc. This music would be more appropriate for your age group.
dj p_jen 02-26-2008, 01:49 AM For your information, Mr. Martin, I already own most of those. Would you like to hear my rendition of In the Air Tonight? They're all on vinyl, too.

Sleeping Where I Want
Playback 03-02-2008, 12:44 AM Hepcat 'Right On Time'.
It's modern reggae, but with an authentic vintage sound. I play this album over and over, and just never seem to get bored with it.
It's probably how The Upsetters would sound, if you were able to record their 60's output on modern equipment.

I honestly wish this CD was a true remaster. As it is, it sounds like the old CDs did back in the day. Still, it's a great load out track set. We've used it at the end of many a show to voiceover and thank the folks for partying with us. :)

Nope, we've barely scratched the surface. There's lots more where these came from. :)
This is using a lot of bandwith and ODJT has almost used up its allotted amount for the quarter.:spwink:
I'm sure Dan will find some extra for us.... :D
Now remember, it's just like a TV ...if you don't like what's on one channel, change it to another... :) :sqwink:
Fred Stewart 03-03-2008, 05:25 AM Hey... don't be dissin' Bluegrass around here. I used to make my living DJing Bluegrass back in the day. :)
Damn, but it was nice to see these folks in action. You've got a gal workin' that big bass fiddle, a fella on mandolin and there's a guitar and banjo. It's sweet music.
How's about Uncle Pen for a good old round dance with a caller? Then a Paul Jones. You ain't seen dancing 'til you've seen this.
Ricky Skaggs has some nice tunes. Crying My Heart Out Over You and I Wouldn't Change You If I Could have been two of the more popular floor fillers I've ever played. I could listen to these songs on repeat all night long. :)

Playback 03-04-2008, 11:31 PM [QUOTE=Kirby Ball; Nick Lowe - The Impossible Bird (1994)
Good choice, and 'Soulful Wind' is a great track.
Saw Nick Live at Southend a few years back, a sort-of day out destination by the sea South East England.
I must be honest, I do prefer his earlier rocky stuff like 'Jesus Of Cool' or 'Labour Of Lust'.
Talking about this Pub Rock stuff (as it's known here) has put me in the mood to play Dave Edmunds 'Repeat When Necessary', then might keep it more in the family with some Carlene Carter or Johnny Cash......
Now look what you've done.......
Jon Tuck 03-04-2008, 11:54 PM Fred thanks for recalling ''Partyin'' Marty Stuart he was one of the original Bad Boys of Country from way back. Check out a fairly recent live performance in which Marty not knowing a song with Bela Fleck picked it up quickly and got it reved up kickin some serious country Arse.
YouTube - Bela Fleck jams with Marty Stuart - Sept. 2007
SoftJock Rick 03-05-2008, 12:06 AM What, they let you off early for good behavior...? :sqerr:
Fred Stewart 03-05-2008, 02:15 AM Yah, Marty Stuart has been a rocker for a long time. He got a lot of influence from Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and George Jones. He inspired other bad boy Country acts like Aaron Tippin.
He can make that Strat talk, too. Hillbilly Rock got the line dancing craze in full swing and people started going out dancing again. :)
And what a comedian. I saw him on a CMT interview years ago. He removed one of his boots to show that his socks had holes. Yessir, he did that on TV. :D

patrickrlewis 03-06-2008, 06:01 AM How's this one sound?
It's typical, vintage Black Crowes. These guys don't really ever change their sound, which in my opinion is a very good thing.
I read that on this new tour, they are going to be playing on this disc straight through, with no old material, so that should be interesting.

How weird is that! The day you were listening to this track, my copy of 'The Associations Greatest Hits' arrived in the post. The very day! I'm going to stick 'Windy' on now, a song apparently written for the group by a fan.
'Cherish' is probably another one you could add to your love songs list, also on this disc.
I'm also waiting for a couple of other CD's to arrive. Best of The New Christy Minstrels, and Trini Lopez 'Live At PJ's', which I've been meaning to get for some time.......
Playback 03-08-2008, 03:29 PM Now, since I appear to be the only one up at the moment, Duncan Browne 'Journey'.

Fred Stewart 03-09-2008, 01:51 AM Time for some good, old Country music. This is real Country ~ before Country was "cool". Yup, there's the steel guitar, background vocals and all.

patrickrlewis 03-14-2008, 06:46 AM Wasted - Carrie Underwood
Very uplifting song (plus, she is sssoooo freakin' hot!!!! :D )
Lyrics below:
Standing at the back door
She tried to make it fast
One tear hit the hard wood
It fell like broken glass
She said sometimes love slips away
And you just can't get it back
Let's face it
For one split second
She almost turned around
But that would be like pouring rain drops
Back into a cloud
So she took another step and said
I see the way out and I'm gonna' take it
I don't wanna' spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I've let all these years go by
Wasted
Another glass of whisky but it still don't kill the pain
So he stumbles to the sink and pours it down the drain
He says it's time to be a man and stop living for yesterday
Gotta face it.
Cause' I don't wanna' spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I've let all these years go by
Wasted
Oh I don't wanna' keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time
Wasted
She kept drivin' along
Till the moon and the sun were floating side-by-side
He looked in the mirror and his eyes were clear
For the first time in a while
Hey, yeah,
Oh, I don't wanna' spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I've let all these years go by
Wasted
Oh I don't wanna' keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time
Wasted
Oh, I don't wanna' spend my life jaded
Waiting to wake up one day and find
That I've let all these years go by
Wasted
Yeah, yeah
Oh I don't wanna' keep on wishing, missing
The still of the morning, the color of the night
I ain't spending no more time
Wasted

That is one of the things I will be working with them on.
These guys were sent to me by a couple of other Philly bands. I normally would not have taken on a group like this, because they have really not played a lot of shows, but two of the guys in Jealousy Curve assured me that all they needed was some time on the road and they have the potential to be great. I'm sure you're right on that Patrick, that's why I stay away from VH1 and such, so I'm not exposed to what they're offering. :sqwink:
