VDJ - sound card issue

I'm pretty new to VDJ but really finding myself using my laptop exclusively these days and trying to get a better grip on the in's and out's of virtual DJ.

I know there are posts out there regarding sound cards but this has a little spin on it.

I used to only use it for requests so I had a single USB sound card out to my 4th channel in my mixer. Now that I'm using it more, I switched to the "dual out" sound card mode with the old USB out to the mixer and the laptop headphone jack acting as out #2. When I switched to this mode I noticed a slight distortion in my music quality?????? I switched back to one out and the quality was back to normal.

Here is my question for all you software DJ's. I obviously need to be able to cue one deck while playing the other, should I just go with another sound card (I currently use a little turtle bay micro advantage) and have two USB outs running to two channels of my mixer?

How are you doing it, are you all using a mulitchannel sound card?

Kris - Buy another Audio Advantage Micro..Windows and VDJ will see the two......run the two to the mixer...You can then cue using the mixer... a$30 dollar solution that will sound fine....

Alternatively, you can run the dual soundcard...Use the TB card for your master out and cue with the on board.....You cue with the software...you may find latency issue though..(the sound of the cue not synced with output)

Hi Kris,
I'm using and M-Audio Fast Track Pro with VDJ. It let's me cue through my mixer and cross fade on using the external mixer and the sound quality is excellent. The on board sound card on laptops is usually pretty crappy so I would use and external. I have my laptop connected to the mixer on channels one and two, my back up CD player on three and four and can switch back an forth when needed.

Thanks everyone so far (I can't hit my thanks button at school) especially Steve because that's what I wanted to hear :sqwink: I bought a second TB card this morning. I'll give that a shot and see how I like it (using 1/2 for my CD/MP3 player and 3/4 for VDJ)

Numark Cue w/ M-Audio Delta 44 Multi channel external sound card with break out box,(has (8) 1/4" jacks on breakout)

decks go to channels 1/2 and cue on channel 3. (i plug headphones direct into sound card)

works great, get compliments on my sound all the time

I used two TB micro sound cards last night into channel 3/4...one acted as the main the other to cue. Channel 2 was MP3/CD back up and channel 1 was DVD audio for video show. Worked great! Thanks for the advice.
