Oops you forgot Shania Twain.
We are listing many you would not know Doh!!!!!
The orginal list says great Canadian Music.
My thoughts are:
Yes a few are very common. But they are great music
I say very few know of Econoline Crush or Therory of a Deadman
Some may know Cory Lee but I doubt play her.
I didn't know SoulDecision was from canada until recently
Jon Tuck 11-20-2007, 02:47 AM There are many great Canadian artists even the US hasnt had the pleasure of knowing. Direction, management, promotion breaking up and starting ten other bands before giving it up for family or whatever. There are many I didnt know about though I knew many if they even had a slight glimmer in the US I most often knew about it. Having moved to Canada five yrs ago I found a huge new bunch of music I had not experienced in my past 43 yrs and juat because a young man in Pittsburgh hasnt heard of them doesnt mean they werent Great Canadian Music.I give you credit for econoloine crush, and Cory Lee but Theory of A Deadman and Nickelback actually were more known originally and made charts first in the States.

You forgot
Chellie Wright.... country singer never went far but did a song called Crank My Tractor.....
Durring a concert here I was about 5 rows back and inadvertantly shouted at a quite point in the song "You Can Crank My Tractor!!!!" She heard me and said "hey now this is a family show" :sqembarrassed:
No joke she really did hear me.... we stuck around and even got to hang out for a bit.... very nice, very hot.
Don Niles 11-22-2007, 10:27 PM I'm a Yankee but Loved some of the Canadian Content songs from Toronto,Hamilton, and Windsor..How about Daytime Nighttime-Keith Hampshire/You've Got Control of Me-Les Emerson/Signs-Five Man Electrical Band/This is My Song-Don Goodwin/Summer Girl-Craig Runkhe/Bondi Junction-Peter Foldy/Heartbeat It's a Lovebeat-DeFranco Family/Lovin' You Ain't Easy-Pagliaro/Lonesome Mary- Chilliwack/The Last Song-Edward Bear..All of this stuff was played on CKLW/CHUM/CFTR/CKOC/CHAM and some even on Buffalo and Rochester stations in the 70's..One more I remember was something about "Too Young To Fall In Love" The group was "Flying Circus"..I worked at a small West Virginia Radio Station and had the CFTR Toronto PD send me Promo Copies..One I remember breaking locally was Heartbeat,It's a Lovebeat...The Defranco Family were called "The Italian Osmonds"..Listeners also called My Nighttime Competition for "This is My Song" by Don Goodwin..They eventually found it Somewhere..I put it in my Top 10...DJ Cam noted Souldecision were Canadian..Did'nt know that..I play "Faded" frequently.

It's that Carefree Highway song, or whatever he calls it. You don't know how many times that grating thing has woken me up in the middle of the night :sqeek: -- maybe that was the precursor to hip hop...
If that's an example of fine Canadian Music -- Sorry my buds, but yer gettin' nuked now :sqlaugh:
Tell the dude to stick to boats next time -- he's pretty good with that -- pavement, is just not his forte ;)
Jeff Romard 11-24-2007, 04:58 AM Carefree Highway
Pickin' up the pieces of my sweet shattered dream
I wonder how the old folks are tonight
Her name was Ann and I'll be damned if I recall her face
She left me not knowin' what to do
Carefree Highway, let me slip away on you
Carefree Highway, you seen better days
The mornin' after blues from my head down to my shoes
Carefree Highway, let me slip away
Slip away on you
Turnin' back the pages to the times I love best
I wonder if she'll ever do the same
Now the thing that I call livin' is just bein' satisfied
With knowin' I got no one left to blame
Carefree Highway, got to see you my old friend
Carefree Highway, you seen better days
The mornin' after blues from my head down to my shoes
Carefree Highway, let me slip away
Slip away on you
Searchin' through the fragments of my dream-shattered sleep
I wonder if the years have closed her mind
I guess it must be wanderlust or tryin' to get free
From the good old faithful feelin' we once knew
Carefree Highway, let me slip away on you
Carefree Highway, you seen better days
The mornin' after blues from my head down to my shoes
Carefree Highway, let me slip away
Slip away on you
Let me slip away on you
Carefree Highway, got to see you my old friend
Carefree Highway, you seen better days
The mornin' after blues from my head down to my shoes
Carefree Highway, let me slip away
Slip away on you

Jon Tuck 11-26-2007, 12:44 AM Read This and then know it is hugely popular here in Canada but created in Europe and was most likely the idea behind milli Vanillis attempts for success.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boney_M

Mr. K 12-04-2007, 06:39 PM To be fair, I thanked every mention of Boney M. and/or Rasputin.
You Say Party We Say Die is a "punk" band from my town that happens to be popular in Europe. I have a couple of their singles, ordered from England.
Deja Voodoo was popular in Europe, too, until they disbanded to go and find real jobs.
We have the legendary D.O.A. and Dayglo Abortions.
Mike Meyers' brother sings, but I forget his name, and he looks just like Mike.
There is a CD collection that I used to have, called LAST CALL, featuring independent music from Vancouver, from 1977-1988 (?-or so). I cannot remember their names, but there were some "big" ones.
Oh, and we have that Chris Sheppard DJ guy.
Mr. K 12-04-2007, 06:45 PM And Melanie Durrant! MELANIE DURRANT!!! That's all you need to know!
Plus Kardinal Offishal (two "l"s?), Swollen Members, and some other guy who had a hit a couple years back. And there's Bounty Hunta and the Mutineers (Bounty owns the Jamaican Jerk pizza place in Vancouver)...and there are more...but I'm so bad with names, especially when it comes to Canadian recording artists...so I'm gonna stop...but one more:
Hey, did anyone say the Mamas and the Papas?
Mr. K 12-04-2007, 06:50 PM Billy Talent and Men Without Hats!!
I always forget to mention my favourites!!!
Bye!!!!
Oh, and Arcade Fire, and Alexisonfire, in case nobody mentioned them, but I really don't like them. I see a theme here, however.
Hey, I'm just killing time--better to kill time than myself, I always say (not really, but I'm just sayin').
Mr. K 12-04-2007, 06:50 PM are the Donnas Canadian?
done. promise.
Jon Tuck 12-04-2007, 08:17 PM How about Matt Sweet or even Skinny Puppy.
Mr. K 12-05-2007, 01:11 AM http://www.justinhines.com/
Jeff Romard 12-05-2007, 03:02 AM Hey, did anyone say the Mamas and the Papas?
They were only partially Canadian I think Denny Doherty was the only Canuck.
BTW he's from Nova Scotia and I had the pleasure of working (at times close) with him on The Pit Pony TV Series (http://www.answers.com/topic/pit-pony-season-02-tv-episode?cat=entertainment)
Mr. K 12-05-2007, 01:01 PM Snow! And his hit is still fairly popular.
And that one guy who had a hit a while back is Massari.
Jeff Romard 12-08-2007, 02:49 PM Heres one I just thought of Sweeny Todd

Garret214 12-27-2007, 09:14 PM Wow this thread is four pages long and no one said anything about my favorite group. Were are the Rush heads on this board? Rush is awesome.
