Looks cool, but not much bang for the buck...

I've been using CyberPowers for quite some time now. Take a look at their stuff -- works well. Mine took me through 8 hours grid down the other day. The Belkin and APC gave out after a couple hours :sqerr:

Size matters, when it comes to UPS's ;)

Uh, Rick.... that IS a Cyber Power.

Yeah, but its not one of their mini-tower ones. They're made by a different manufacturer in some far off land...

My bad, I never looked at the name, just the unit. Sorry for the confusion -- I'm a geek -- think different :sqembarrassed:

So how many of these will you need to finish a gig when the lights go out, or is it for your PC?

nooo lol i am not looking to finish a gig... i have a drive rack pa and if you loose power and it comes back on the driverack puts a popping noise out that will blow every speaker you have hooked up to it.... so i am mainly just looking to prevent that.

If you're looking for something that would provide power for an orderly shutdown - most anything would be fine - you're only protecting your signal chain - you want the amps to go down.

My only question is weight - UPS batteries are normally CRAZY heavy.

Come see my UPS and Power Management presentation at MBLV. ;) We dealt with this issue specifically at the CPS presentation.

Furman's M1500 UPS is designed specifically for A/V applications and generates a perfect 120V sine on output. IR learning and software shut down. It will tell your equipment that it has lost power and facilitate an orderly shutdown. It also has a critical load bank that stays on longer. For example, you can run the amps, etc. off the Non-Critical load and it will weather any short brown or blackout without interruption, but if the blackout persists it will shut off the NCL bank at 60% battery and keep the critical load going.

Another great use for a UPS. Projectors. You don't want them to suddenly lose power!

It isn't cheap, that's for sure. But it is 1500VA, and has some amazing features specific to AV functionality. I'm not recommending it for everybody, but I am recommending it if you're seriously considering a UPS. I sold the one I had at CPS on the spot after discussing it with attendees.
