Logo

How about this DJ company logo?

This is the first of two threads I'm starting. Hank and I have been tossing around some ideas for a new logo for my DJ business. Based on my parameters, he has come up with the following design. The different background colors are just to see what it would look like with them.

What do you think of this design? I like it because although I don't play too much 50s and 60s music -- I play a bit of everything -- the Rock Around the Clock name begs for a certain retro feel. I like the neon font with the chrome font. Here was the evolution of the logos. I decided I like the bottom logo in the series of logos in the third pic, the one with light purple "Rock Around" and the blue background.

Here's the second iteration:

Here's the third one with the one I prefer on the bottom:

It's got a nice retro feel, I like it. As I mentioned in the other thread, a tag-line should not be part of the logo. It can be added as needed. I would use that logo on a vertical business card, it would look good that way. My cards are vertical and they look great!

Reminds me of Happy Days! I like the one with no background, that can always be added. The font is much better and the circle looks better too.
Why did you lose the grill type fins? I really liked those.

Man I wish I was handy with photoshop I'd redo mine...

I like everything except for the tag line under the company name

I'd like to get rid of that center the company name and make the last "s" a captital "S" plus it needs to be scaleable with a transparent background...

Seems like something simple to do... I just lack photoshop and the skill.

See current logo in my tag line... below.

Personally I love the logo but the first thing I thought was you are marketing the whole retro thing. If I were a 25 year old getting married I wouldn't look twice at that card

Then again as you said the name does fit the logo

I'd like to get rid of that center the company name and make the last "s" a captital "S" ...
Why a capital "s"?? As in "DJS"? That implies that the "S" stands for a word. "DJs" means "Disc Jockeys". "DJS" means...what exactly?

See, Jeff brings up my issue with the fins. I think it's too retro-looking, and may lose interest in potential clients.

No question it's cool, but I just wonder what brides think of when they see the fins. "Like, I don't want some OLD guy as my DJ who only plays, like, 50s music."

Nice work Hank. My favourite's the blue background version on post #2

I like that one too, but not the frame around it.

The name, the colors, the font, the chrome all brings to mind the 50's era and it's neon signs. The fins won't make it look any more retro because it's already retro in every respect. What I'm trying to say is that with or without the fins, potential clients will get the same impression.

I like it both ways but the fins were definitely cool... Very nice work!!!

Last ones good :) -- I'd like to see the dancers lit up like the one prior though...

If they were lit up, you wouldn't see their shadows on the O.

SoftJock Rick
11-28-2007, 04:09 PM
Could light up the inside of the dancers a bit, and still keep the outside shadows...

Either way it looks good -- I'm just nitpicking :)

Hank, using the last one. Remove the top and bottom of the oval so only the sides are left. Then turn the side part-oval sections into multiple fins and remove all remaining background. So you have kind of a sideways U shaped set of fins on each side. Oh yeah....

Hank, checked out your myspace at JTV's request and it totally rocks! Nicest I've seen...

Laura and I both think the color combination in the version in your previous post (the one we discussed on the phone) looks better.

Of course, I am partial to blue!

maestro

I like the pink neon the best. No background or blue like Brian says works for me. Still would love to see the side curved fins...
Hank, do you watch 'House'? Last night's episode was really good. I like how he was one step ahead of Cuddy at the end. That was too cool! "How long have you known me?"

House is my hero. :sqwink: Sarcasm and brilliance are a fine thing.

I'll be putting some episodes in the lounge's tube room.

You are correct... I need it to stand for Service as it Total Impact DJS or fully Total Impact Disc Jockey Service...

I get too many inquiries as to how many DJ's I have when I'm a lone wolf.

Yeah, I'm finding that less is more. Maybe a different shad of blue behind it though. I almost wanted it to look like a spot being thrown against the dark blue background.

Yesterday, I played with different silhouettes and nothing really screamed at me.
They somehow come out looking cheesey. :sqconfused:

imo, i like the fins - that added to the logo - very retro!
neon makes it - and the dancers look good too - but only on a bigger version of the logo - when it is scalled down, they might not be visible. So here's what I like:

first version (without dancers)

and oooh ooo - the brick wall effect is cool too - like a retro lounge! yea!

I was referring to the DJ logo. There have been lots of good ones... Unfortunately, I never got to see the fins brought back, curved on the sides is what I would have liked to have seen. The last one is nice for a non-retro look.
