I've noticed for the past week or two that this website is becoming very sluggish. Is there something else occurring on this server?? :sqeek:

Rick mentioned it to me yesterday and I did a reboot to see if that fixed things, obviously it didn't. I'm stuck on dial up so I cannot tell that the site is slow nor do much with out my connection timing out but tonight I'm gonna visit a friend who has high speed so I'll pull the logs see what's happening and do some maintenance/tinkering. If the site goes offline around 5-6 PM don't be alarmed... It's just me monkeying around.

Guys, I'm really sorry this hasn't been fixed yet please bear with me another day or so. I cannot get near a high speed connection. Last night we got a flat on the way so plans changed. I can barely get to my email on this connection... Hopefully tonight. I did get to log on to the server and check our resources we aren't even using 25% of our total resources so my thought is one of the datebase calls are slowing things down. The only thing I've added lately is the buy me a song in postbit, I'm removing that for now to see if that helps until I can monkey around.

I ran all the DB maintence tools available to me without uploading anything which I cannot do. Yous all should see a marked difference, I cannot really tell on dial up... Let me know if it's still reaallly sslloowww. :) Thanks.

The thing is that it's slow sometimes, but it's a normal speed sometimes. That's why I figured you had other processes hogging the server's CPU time.

The thing is though we're guarenteed a certain number of CPU cycles. We're on a VPS (semi-dedicated) anytime I look at our load its lower than 0.4 and we're on a quad core I believe.

We had this issue last year around this time I contacted the NOC and they corrected it, I believe the issue was network throughput. Our neighbor must be running an ecommerce site and is sucking down all the bandwidth with Christmas right around the corner and all. Worse case senerio I'll upgrade to a fully dedicated.

Dan, if it's any help I've noticed a few times during the day when the pages take a little longer to load than usual. It's no big deal 'cuz I'm typically online in the wee hours anyway. :)

Thanks Fred. :) I checked yesterday evening on a high speed connection and everything loaded lickety split. Not sure what to do other than gripe to the NOC and if they cannot fix it upgrade to a fully dedicated server.

Problem tonight for me -- main page loads fine, click on a board and there is a lag. It finally pulls up and click on a thread and there is a lag.

I've found the most delay happening when I post a new message in a thread.

I too have had periods of the slow Mo effect causing me to have multiple posting.

Now, this morning, everything has a lag.

Not really complaining, just advising.

I'm really sorry guys. I cannot tell anything from this connection I cannot even load Gmail without timing out 4 or 5 times. The one night I had access to a high speed connection all was loading fine.

I'm going to reboot the server again in hopes that it speeds things up for yous. :)

I've only found ODJT to be slow(er) than other sights. Most replies take about 5-10 seconds to post and clicking between pages is about 2-3 seconds for an upload.

It varies from moment to moment... Sometimes it zips. And just a few moments ago, it took 2 MINUTES for a post to go live.

Sorry guys, I'm still stuck on dial up and now my friends phone is turned off so I cannot even use that. Now, I beg, borrow, and steal to connect with dial up and other people's houses. :eek: I have a feeling it's an SQL problem on the server.. It maybe just a throughput problem.. I have to investigate.

The ShoutBox (yer fav ;) ), seems to do image lookups in real time. That might be something that contributes to the overall decline in speed. I love the Shout Box, but perhaps a test of turning off images in it, might be worth a try...

Dan, if you don't have the resources you need to look at this thing properly while you're on the road, may I recommend Chris over at Eagle Graphics. You know him and he knows his bullentin board stuff, he may be able to help you out.

Nothing has changed on my end, still pretty slow.

we are working on alternative measures as some might notice we shut down the shout box. Im in process to get someone with the skills to take care of this for Dan awaiting a email from Dan with the ok.

might be all the skin tweaking for Rockit Randy LOL.its been mostly really good asides the occasional slow load on reply and occasional big threads finding the last read reply.

The good news is I got my internets back, the bad news is I'm still on dialup, I'm going to close the site for a little while later on tonight and attempt to unscrew the database issues. If all goes well you will all be back to speed tomorrow morning... I haven't seen a high speed connection in over a month! :angry7: :sad2:

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm bitching, I'm not really.

But, the pages are still very slow for me. I have even adjusted some of my settings to not pull so much info, but it hasn't helped. I still get a very long lag when postings, going into different areas of the board, thanking, even just coming onto the site takes time to load.

Could it be something on my side that I need to look at further?

Just changed my skin to the default and that has helped. Thanks.

I'm on dial up so I cannot tell how fast pages are actually loading due to my download caps but I do know since I ran maintenance yesterday pages are loading a lot faster than they were and that's on dial up. As soon as I get near a high speed connection I'll do speed tests.

Since I have selected the default skin, things have been much faster.

EDIT: Well, until I went to post this. It never would show posted. I had to close explorer and come back in and see that it had went thru. Ugh.

Yous are probably sick of hearing my dial up tails by now, I'm sure but I promise ODJT is absolutely the first thing on my list when I get home and plug my cable modem back in. Seeing as the problem is intermittent and even when I catch it lagging, our server is no where near any of it's quotas it's going to be a SOB to diagnose but I'll "Get Er Done" :)

Deejay Dan : FYI . Today, January 30th, it is brutually unresponsive. Started yesterday evening.

And, it's flying for me! WooHoo!! I'm not the one on the slow train today.

I was having some issues last night as well and couldn't tell if it was my dinosaur computer having problems rendering multiple "ajaxafied" pages at the same time or unresponsiveness from the server. For instance this morning I just loaded 30 plus threads in separate tabs at the same time without issue other than my computer's fan kicking into over drive.

For the more technical members: The good news is every time I check the server is well below it's resource caps so it's not a memory nor processor time issue. I know its a database issue and the primary problem seems to be the post table's index which I've rebuilt several times. I'm currently looking into why it keeps getting corrupted. :BangHead: Now that I'm home, I have high speed internet and plenty of computer time to investigate. I'm going to look around a couple of the vBulletin forums and see who else has had similar issues.

As a side note, I was just notified our server is expected to have some minor down time (max 15 minutes) between 4 and 7 AM EST Friday morning for maintenance.
