ODJT is sslloowwiinngg dddooowwwnnn!!!Bryan Durio 11-30-2007, 09:54 AM I've noticed for the past week or two that this website is becoming very sluggish. Is there something else occurring on this server?? :sqeek: SoftJock Rick 11-30-2007, 10:54 AM Dans in Florida :sqwink: Jon Tuck 11-30-2007, 12:12 PM he is popping in though and mentioned doing something hopefully it fixes the issue. However it seems fine here. PeteT 11-30-2007, 12:28 PM I haven't seen any problems. DJ Dan 11-30-2007, 02:03 PM Isn't that Murphy's law I go south and don't slow down a bit but the server does. :D :sqlaugh: Rick mentioned it to me yesterday and I did a reboot to see if that fixed things, obviously it didn't. I'm stuck on dial up so I cannot tell that the site is slow nor do much with out my connection timing out but tonight I'm gonna visit a friend who has high speed so I'll pull the logs see what's happening and do some maintenance/tinkering. If the site goes offline around 5-6 PM don't be alarmed... It's just me monkeying around. Thanks for letting me know. :) DJ Dan 12-01-2007, 12:14 PM Guys, I'm really sorry this hasn't been fixed yet please bear with me another day or so. I cannot get near a high speed connection. Last night we got a flat on the way so plans changed. I can barely get to my email on this connection... Hopefully tonight. I did get to log on to the server and check our resources we aren't even using 25% of our total resources so my thought is one of the datebase calls are slowing things down. The only thing I've added lately is the buy me a song in postbit, I'm removing that for now to see if that helps until I can monkey around. EDIT: I ran all the DB maintence tools available to me without uploading anything which I cannot do. Yous all should see a marked difference, I cannot really tell on dial up... Let me know if it's still reaallly sslloowww. :) Thanks. Bryan Durio 12-01-2007, 02:55 PM The thing is that it's slow sometimes, but it's a normal speed sometimes. That's why I figured you had other processes hogging the server's CPU time. SoftJock Rick 12-01-2007, 05:39 PM The thing is that it's slow sometimes, but it's a normal speed sometimes. Y'know, I could have some fun with that line :sqlaugh: DJ Dan 12-01-2007, 06:03 PM The thing is though we're guarenteed a certain number of CPU cycles. We're on a VPS (semi-dedicated) anytime I look at our load its lower than 0.4 and we're on a quad core I believe. We had this issue last year around this time I contacted the NOC and they corrected it, I believe the issue was network throughput. Our neighbor must be running an ecommerce site and is sucking down all the bandwidth with Christmas right around the corner and all. Worse case senerio I'll upgrade to a fully dedicated. SoftJock Rick 12-01-2007, 06:06 PM It's livable Dan -- enjoy yer vaca :) jtnichol 12-01-2007, 06:07 PM Thats ok. I'm pretty slow most of the time anyway... Fred Stewart 12-02-2007, 06:41 PM Dan, if it's any help I've noticed a few times during the day when the pages take a little longer to load than usual. It's no big deal 'cuz I'm typically online in the wee hours anyway. :) DJ Dan 12-02-2007, 08:03 PM Thanks Fred. :) I checked yesterday evening on a high speed connection and everything loaded lickety split. Not sure what to do other than gripe to the NOC and if they cannot fix it upgrade to a fully dedicated server. Randy A 12-06-2007, 07:52 PM Problem tonight for me -- main page loads fine, click on a board and there is a lag. It finally pulls up and click on a thread and there is a lag. Bryan Durio 12-06-2007, 10:48 PM I've found the most delay happening when I post a new message in a thread. Jon Tuck 12-06-2007, 10:50 PM I too have had periods of the slow Mo effect causing me to have multiple posting. Randy A 12-07-2007, 07:43 AM Now, this morning, everything has a lag. Not really complaining, just advising. DJ Dan 12-07-2007, 03:15 PM I'm really sorry guys. I cannot tell anything from this connection I cannot even load Gmail without timing out 4 or 5 times. The one night I had access to a high speed connection all was loading fine. I'm going to reboot the server again in hopes that it speeds things up for yous. :) -Dan SoftJock Rick 12-07-2007, 03:55 PM It's been running well for me the last two days Dan... Maybe it's just Chuck playing in the arcade at certain times... :sqlaugh: Jon Tuck 12-07-2007, 04:47 PM still slow to advance pages here at times other times its normal. Perhaps internet traffic period cause of the increased holidays activity? SoftJock Rick 12-24-2007, 11:29 AM You ever coming back Dan...? :sqlaugh: Really slow for me here since yesterday... WaydeWest 12-24-2007, 11:50 AM I've noticed an overall slow down in the internet, for now I'm blaming the holidays. If it continues next week I'll blame either Karl Rove, global warming, Patrick, the situation in the Middle East or a drunk oil tanker captain. Randy A 12-24-2007, 04:58 PM I've only found ODJT to be slow(er) than other sights. Most replies take about 5-10 seconds to post and clicking between pages is about 2-3 seconds for an upload. Papa Deuce 12-24-2007, 05:10 PM It varies from moment to moment... Sometimes it zips. And just a few moments ago, it took 2 MINUTES for a post to go live. Papa Deuce 12-24-2007, 05:14 PM I've noticed an overall slow down in the internet, for now I'm blaming the holidays. If it continues next week I'll blame either Karl Rove, global warming, Patrick, the situation in the Middle East or a drunk oil tanker captain. Absolutely. Also, about 5 million World of Warcraft players! It usually runs smooth as silk, but due to the internet in general, it has been a rough few days.... DJ Dan 12-25-2007, 04:54 PM Sorry guys, I'm still stuck on dial up and now my friends phone is turned off so I cannot even use that. Now, I beg, borrow, and steal to connect with dial up and other people's houses. I have a feeling it's an SQL problem on the server.. It maybe just a throughput problem.. I have to investigate. I'll try my best to near a decent connection this week. I appreciate yous all being so patient. Last but not least.. Merry Christmas :) maestro 12-25-2007, 10:41 PM It's been sooooo sluggish that I thought I was on the prodj website... lol :sqwink: DJ JohnThe1 12-25-2007, 10:52 PM While you were working on it, hook a brother up with some more of them green glow sticks. DJ JohnThe1 12-25-2007, 10:54 PM It seems like the site is moving faster now. SoftJock Rick 12-26-2007, 05:33 AM I have a feeling it's an SQL problem on the server.. I have a feeling yer correct :) WAY slow about 4:30 this morning, when it should be zipping along. Probably either the cache is hosed, or the table indexes are corrupt... patrickrlewis 12-26-2007, 05:45 AM I've noticed an overall slow down in the internet, for now I'm blaming the holidays. If it continues next week I'll blame either Karl Rove, global warming, Patrick, the situation in the Middle East or a drunk oil tanker captain. You ever heard the expression don't poke a rabid dog? :sqwink: Between Christmas, my company under attack and my just general grumpy mood recently, the last thing you want is me to go off on a rant:sqcool: SoftJock Rick 12-26-2007, 05:48 AM I just had another thought Dan... The ShoutBox (yer fav ;) ), seems to do image lookups in real time. That might be something that contributes to the overall decline in speed. I love the Shout Box, but perhaps a test of turning off images in it, might be worth a try... DJ Dan 12-26-2007, 09:55 PM I just ran a couple of DB maintenance scripts, it should speed things up a bit.. :) Papa Deuce 12-26-2007, 11:24 PM I just ran a couple of DB maintenance scripts, it should speed things up a bit.. :) Some... but still not right. DJ SVO 12-27-2007, 12:15 AM It just got slow for me, real slow :( Randy A 12-27-2007, 07:41 AM Dan, if you don't have the resources you need to look at this thing properly while you're on the road, may I recommend Chris over at Eagle Graphics. You know him and he knows his bullentin board stuff, he may be able to help you out. Nothing has changed on my end, still pretty slow. Cap Capello 12-27-2007, 09:46 AM Dan: Yes, it's very slow here now as well. Slow to load, slow to post, slow to navigate, for about a week now. FYI: I'm on RoadRunner broadband cable. Good luck with it. php is a biotch. Jon Tuck 12-27-2007, 07:35 PM we are working on alternative measures as some might notice we shut down the shout box. Im in process to get someone with the skills to take care of this for Dan awaiting a email from Dan with the ok. thatmusicguy 12-27-2007, 07:39 PM With it being slow..I get to savour the posts longer..... DJ SVO 12-27-2007, 09:26 PM It's getting faster :D:D:D:D:D Jon Tuck 12-27-2007, 09:29 PM Yes it seems as though it has picked up now the only semi slow maneuver being the posting time to load. I did my Native Chant ritual over my laptop perhaps I need to do it over a true PC. DJ SVO 12-27-2007, 09:30 PM I need to go and sacrifice a virgin and see if it helps :D:D:D Randy A 12-28-2007, 12:08 AM Things are much better. Not as good at they once were, but much better. maestro 12-28-2007, 12:16 AM And faster... Papa Deuce 12-28-2007, 01:17 AM At this MOMENT things are zippy.... this morning, though, it was taking over a minute to load a page... :sqerr: Kirby Ball 12-28-2007, 01:20 AM Did Papa say Zippy? bigtime 12-28-2007, 09:09 AM Wow...it is now almost as quick as me......at least that's what all the girls tell me. :sqeek: Still kinda sluggish though. Randy A 01-02-2008, 02:19 PM Hey - anyone else experiencing slowness again? It started for me on Monday. Things became really sluggish again. Jon Tuck 01-03-2008, 04:09 AM might be all the skin tweaking for Rockit Randy LOL.its been mostly really good asides the occasional slow load on reply and occasional big threads finding the last read reply. DJ Dan 01-04-2008, 06:08 PM Howdy folks, The good news is I got my internets back, the bad news is I'm still on dialup, I'm going to close the site for a little while later on tonight and attempt to unscrew the database issues. If all goes well you will all be back to speed tomorrow morning... I haven't seen a high speed connection in over a month! :angry7: :sad2: I do appreciate all your patience with this sluggishness. -Dan Playback 01-05-2008, 08:24 AM I need to go and sacrifice a virgin and see if it helps :D:D:D Don't you waste those virgins. Send her over here! :sqwink: Playback 01-05-2008, 08:26 AM Have you tried turning it off, then on again? :sqlaugh: DJ Dan 01-05-2008, 09:19 PM Okay folks, I closed us down for about 3 hours this evening and ran a bunch of maintence tools along with dancing around in the index tables a bit.. Hopefully this fixes our speed issues once and for all. :) If issues are still popping up please post here and let me know. Thanks, Dan Playback 01-06-2008, 07:32 AM Hmmmm. Seems to be running ok at the moment. Will try again later. The only problem I have now is that there seems to be a really scary picture where Deejay Dan's avatar should be. :sqeek: Once we get that sorted I think we'll be ok. :sqwink: Jon Tuck 01-06-2008, 11:23 AM Yeah what the Englishman Said, Welcome back Dan we missed you!! Kirby Ball 01-06-2008, 04:23 PM Okay folks, I closed us down for about 3 hours this evening and ran a bunch of maintence tools along with dancing around in the index tables a bit.. Hopefully this fixes our speed issues once and for all. :) If issues are still popping up please post here and let me know. Thanks, Dan Thanks Dan..For all that you do here. It's greatly appreciated. :) (Just don't take the site down again.....I had to actually interact with my family!) :sqembarrassed::sqconfused::sqeek: Randy A 01-07-2008, 02:38 PM I'm sorry if it seems like I'm bitching, I'm not really. But, the pages are still very slow for me. I have even adjusted some of my settings to not pull so much info, but it hasn't helped. I still get a very long lag when postings, going into different areas of the board, thanking, even just coming onto the site takes time to load. Could it be something on my side that I need to look at further? Randy A 01-07-2008, 03:00 PM Just changed my skin to the default and that has helped. Thanks. DJ Dan 01-07-2008, 03:12 PM Hi Randy, I'm on dial up so I cannot tell how fast pages are actually loading due to my download caps but I do know since I ran maintenance yesterday pages are loading a lot faster than they were and that's on dial up. As soon as I get near a high speed connection I'll do speed tests. Thanks, Dan Randy A 01-07-2008, 03:34 PM Since I have selected the default skin, things have been much faster. EDIT: Well, until I went to post this. It never would show posted. I had to close explorer and come back in and see that it had went thru. Ugh. Playback 01-12-2008, 09:57 AM Hmmmmm. Still got a problem myself. Took nearly a minute to add a post. My Etch-A-Sketch is loading quicker than my computer at the moment. :sqlaugh: Try it, if you don't believe me.....www.etchy.org/ Randy A 01-14-2008, 03:34 PM I constantly have load problems, but have deemed it to be on my end and tolerate it. barry stamper 01-14-2008, 03:47 PM I'm glad it's not just me I thought it was from all the questionable website I go to.....:sqembarrassed: Jon Tuck 01-14-2008, 04:24 PM it seems much better today Dan was in with his tools late last night and likely fixed what ails. Randy A 01-14-2008, 05:04 PM He may want to invest in a bigger hammer, today has been real bad. Jon Tuck 01-14-2008, 05:06 PM its been great here. Perhaps something else is going on bigger than us or our server. Playback 01-14-2008, 06:39 PM I'm glad it's not just me I thought it was from all the questionable websites I go to.....:sqembarrassed: Barry, you should be ashamed of yourself! Incidentally, what were their addresses? :sqwink: Kirby Ball 01-20-2008, 04:13 PM Seeemmmmsss Toooo Bbbbeeee Ccccrrreeeppppiiinnggg aaaloooonggg toooddday. :sqmad: SoftJock Rick 01-20-2008, 05:09 PM Verrrrrrrrrrrrry Slow today :sqerr: Randy A 01-20-2008, 06:52 PM Wooh, glad I'm not the only one feeling it today. (Thought it was the double baked potatoe I had for dinner!) Kirby Ball 01-20-2008, 06:53 PM It's picked up considerably since earlier this afternoon... Fred Stewart 01-20-2008, 07:49 PM It comes and goes. I am not sure if it's on my end or not. It could be my puter... Sometimes a page loads lightning fast. Other times, it lags like a SOB. :dontknow: Jon Tuck 01-20-2008, 07:54 PM It was slow and I thought it was the cold weather making things here move slowly earlier couldnt even load the site. Its been much better after lunch. Cant wait for Dan to find High Speed!! DJ Dan 01-21-2008, 01:41 AM Yous are probably sick of hearing my dial up tails by now, I'm sure but I promise ODJT is absolutely the first thing on my list when I get home and plug my cable modem back in. Seeing as the problem is intermittent and even when I catch it lagging, our server is no where near any of it's quotas it's going to be a SOB to diagnose but I'll "Get Er Done" :) I really do apologize folks my hands are just tied. PS: If it makes yous feel any better I'll swing by Virgina on the way home and throw a few of Rick's empties at the server. DjDennis 01-21-2008, 08:06 AM well all I can say is - fine here I get it no hassles what so ever :) Playback 01-21-2008, 03:33 PM well all I can say is - fine here I get it no hassles what so ever :) Did you hear that guys? Anyone that wants an online chat in future, just pile over to Dennis's place. Hope he's got lots of beers in the fridge! :sqwink: SoftJock Rick 01-21-2008, 03:48 PM Hell'uva plane ride... :sqerr: Those down under, are just used to everything being slow... :sqwink: PeteT 01-21-2008, 03:49 PM It's not done yet - but if anyone wants to test out a recent project of mine while Dan looks at the problems... You can play with practiceandenjoy.com It hasn't been fully tested yet - but heck... the basics are there. Randy A 01-21-2008, 03:50 PM Some days, I could be there and back between page loads! :) :) Ugh!! I realize Dan is away and will work on it as soon as he can. I deal with it. DJ Dan 01-21-2008, 09:45 PM Thanks guys. I'm embarrassed to say is the guy who was supposed to keep an eye on the server while I was away bailed on me and took my money with him. :sqmad: Once I get home I'll monkey around if I cannot make any headway I'll hire a professional. I have a feeling it's on of the mods we use here that modifies the post table but on dial up I cannot even download the a copy of our database without my connection dropping. :( Your patience is very much appreciated. DjDennis 01-22-2008, 09:10 AM Hey dan can you do a backup of the database and save it online for later retrieval ? there are a few sites that you can do that with (want any details send me a msg) DJ Dan 01-27-2008, 08:19 AM Thanks Dennis, I finally got home and got my "toolbox" out. :) Guys I just closed us down for about two hours and hopefully fixed our speed issues once and for all. We'll see how it goes for a few days if all is well, I'll turn the shoutbox back on. If any of you are still having issues please clear your cache, and try again, if you still have issues let me know here. :) Thank you all very much for your patience. -Dan Cap Capello 01-30-2008, 10:58 AM Deejay Dan : FYI . Today, January 30th, it is brutually unresponsive. Started yesterday evening. Randy A 01-30-2008, 12:05 PM And, it's flying for me! WooHoo!! I'm not the one on the slow train today. DJ Dan 01-30-2008, 12:24 PM Thanks Cap & Randy. I was having some issues last night as well and couldn't tell if it was my dinosaur computer having problems rendering multiple "ajaxafied" pages at the same time or unresponsiveness from the server. For instance this morning I just loaded 30 plus threads in separate tabs at the same time without issue other than my computer's fan kicking into over drive. For the more technical members: The good news is every time I check the server is well below it's resource caps so it's not a memory nor processor time issue. I know its a database issue and the primary problem seems to be the post table's index which I've rebuilt several times. I'm currently looking into why it keeps getting corrupted. :BangHead: Now that I'm home, I have high speed internet and plenty of computer time to investigate. I'm going to look around a couple of the vBulletin forums and see who else has had similar issues. As a side note, I was just notified our server is expected to have some minor down time (max 15 minutes) between 4 and 7 AM EST Friday morning for maintenance. | |
