I ordered one from IDJNOW yesterday. UPS is claiming it will be delivered TODAY. We will see if that happens. 1 day shipping would be super impressive if that happens!

It is on sale for $58.66, less than half price. It is a 2020 revamp of the older Chauvet Obsession LED from like 2011. The revamp has a 60 watt LED in it so it should be way brighter, and have more throw than the old one had. Looks nice and compact so takes up minimal space. I purchased one because I want a new light for some holiday parties I am doing next month, and this has a snow flake, and I think a Christmas tree gobo included. I believe it is 11 or 14 gobo designs that come with it. It has solid reviews online from other DJs. For the Fifty Eight Bucks, I figure why not. I also just purchased a new Rockville RB40 light carry bag that came in, and I think I have space in the bag for this light. Hopeful that it fits.

If you had at least four of them that were also chasing (different positions in the room) that might be interestsing. I think just one fixture in a fixed focus will get boring quite quickly.

Good idea. I was actually thinking of master/slave 2 of them together. The coverage area of this seems pretty darn good. I rarely perform in BIG ball rooms, and I don't know how good the throw will be on this light in a big ball room either. Although, I just did a corporate event that had a decent sized ball room this past Saturday. I plan to test one out first and deem it a worthy light before I buy a 2nd one.

They do make a Obsession HP, that has the same Gobo designs, uses a larger lens, but uses a 100 watt LED, and the designs show up about DOUBLE the size of the designs on this light. However, I have read a couple of reviews from DJs online that have both versions, and they both said the HP version doesn't seem to be worth the price you pay for it over the regular version. It's also twice the size so it would need it's own bag, and I want my lights to be compact as possible.

I'm also not charging more money for these lights, I'm just including them, and honestly, I know my clients are not interested in paying more money for some random light effects. Especially the corporate clients.

Not for weddings. Cheap looking lights.
Like putting lipstick on a pig.

Why do you say that? Just because it's a wedding, it requires Large moving head lights today?

I used a MBT Enticer same as a Vertigo for many years at weddings. Then I used a ADJ Vertigo HEX, and then the Chauvet Mini Kinta. My sister uses a Mirror Ball with two LED Pinspots on it to this day.

DJs everywhere use Gig Bars at weddings. I dislike the Gig Bars mainly because they are the most popular light show DJs use and their light output seems underwhelming, but they are most likely what you will see as the light show at any given wedding. This light is different. It's a Gobo Light just like a moving head Spot light would have. Just fixed in one place.

Once Open Dancing start's, the kids are fascinated with whatever lights a DJ has generally speaking. Then the Adults who are dancing and already hovering close to .08 BAC or higher get excited even more when the lights start going. As long as the light show is not blinding the dancers, or a Strobe light isn't going 100 mph, and it doesn't look like a total Circus show with way too much going on, they generally welcome any light effects the DJ is using.

A simple color wash on the dance floor can appear "tasteful" and perhaps is the "safe" course of action to take, but seeing only a color wash for 1.5-3 hours straight during open dancing is going to get boring to the dancers. Nobody is leaving that reception saying the light show was cool or real good, but people are probably not saying it sucked either.

The planner I just worked with on this past corporate event mentioned to me that she likes it when DJs bring lights to use while everyone dances. That tells me that a good number of DJs she works with don't bring any lights at all.

I use a color was and and adj trispherion get loads of compliments gave up spin and pukes a decade ago, I see most DJs buy lights because they like them not because they as much to their presentation. Follow the golden rule
If I doesn’t make me more money or make my job easier I don’t need it

There's nothing wrong with Moonflower (spin & puke) lights, they're just not meant to be the base light show. They are effects that come and go. I would have no problem using it in conjunction with 3 other effects that are laid over a basic color wash. I'd still prefer a 300w - 600w halogen over and LED for this type of effect. I imagine these LED versions would have a hard time punching through a substantial color wash.

I used to use the old "water effect" lights as a base for my light show. These would probably work the same. Not bright enough for an effect light.
I turned to a gig bar style light (ADJ Dotz) because it was easier to set up, and because I wanted to go back to a simple, basic looking light show for a majority of the time.
Using flashy effects too often can grow old quickly, so I use my effects sparingly so they stand out more when I do use them.
I cannot soeak for the Gig Bar, but the Dotz is PLENTY bright enough.
