ok guy's.
so getting close to finishing the rig, so, see the pics of the facade, I wanted a toss up between hiding stuff and it being easy to troubleshoot, so there are some bits which are not as hidden, but the bulk is, I also didn't want to much height as I wanted my decks seen (with the groovy red) and also for the scratching/remixing skills, otherwise why have turntables :)
The flash makes things a bit too bright so there are some imperfections, but remember, this is going to be a dark party room, full of drunks :)
The last thing anyone will be interested is, dude, look at that DJ booth can you see all thoes staples LOL
Next thing is to put some leds behind the facade to lighten up the decks, so that is going to need some workP1010012.JPG

The bottom line is that you are happy with the results. You mention a roomful of drunks so my immediate concern is gear protection. Some thoughts to consider include:
  • Add about 12" of plexiglass above your opaque façade. This would allow people to see the turntables but offer a modicum of protection from spills and wandering hands.
  • Your graphic EQ is just an invitation for drunk people to play with your sound. Perhaps adding an expanded metal grate in front would be wise. You could still see the gear behind the grate and have enough airflow for your amp but you would greatly lower the temptation to mess with your gear.
  • Consider wall or ceiling mounting your speakers. You will get a much better sound in a crowded room than you would having the horns aimed at people's knees. It would also prevent drinks being spilled onto your paper woofer cones.

Hey thanks for the constructive points,
I'm never 100% happy with anything I do, I always end up picking the most inane things, but I learned to stop my OCD, that said, I'm "happy"

Yeah I said drunk people, more tongue in cheek, I've done and had a lot of house parties, they generally actually always are fine. It's not really an outside party with strangers, but you would hope people get "happy" :) LOL

With that in mind

point 1> No, would be like I'm behind a shield, I've done loads of parties with people and never had anything like this, in what is essentially my house,
point 2> If anything I would put it behind clear plastic, BUT for maintenance or issues, thats gonna be a pain, I don't see people messing with that TBH
point 3> No place to put them the ceiling is too low, cups bottles on speakers yes, but I generally go up to people and ask them to move it, I also used to arrange a cone on the speaker (taped down to avoid this)

ALL good and relevant points for sure , the only thing which actually is ok are the speakers there is not enpugh space to put anything as there failry covered up, although my table is a "failure" point, so needs my eyes on it.

Muchly appreciated your positive comments and recommendations
Keep in tune !

Also just thinking, with the amp/eq, I have about 6" of depth behind so could always swing it further back

The worst drunk guest issue I have had at a home party the last few years was a friend losing her balance and falling into one of my home speakers which are powered studio monitors mounted on 3' stands. She knocked the speaker sideways into the stereo cabinet less than a foot away. Luckily it fell to the side and not forward as the cabinet blocked further movement. I had secured the speakers to the stands with two 2" velcro straps that go completely around the speakers and under the stands. This allowed the speaker/stand to fall as complete unit. Had I not done that, she would have knocked the monitors off the stand.

OK, this part is a bit of a failure, I needed something to light up my decks but not be blinding, so the problems are

1> the Facade needed to be about 6"'s higher, but defeats the idea of people seeing me mixing
2> the LED's are poor quality low light low voltage (5V) device
3> The colours are horrible, white is not white, yellow not yellow red not red, 16 colours of washyness
4> The effects are all pretty much the same
5> I really need to fix the target light on the deck (lights not available anymore)
6> Need to get a gooseneck light to hover OVER the records and shine down, a torch does work somewhat and would need a good over head light

The first picture was in the dark taken with flash, the right deck the target light works and so I'm ok, the left one is deads and dont's

See the pictures feel the pain, the camera makes the lights look better than they are

the black cable under the trunking is the speaker cable, I "had" thought of running it through the trunking, but decided against it, also if I need to remove the cable for any reason, I'm toying with painting it white, so it' hides a bt better

I've done an hour long video of some tunes and mixes, with some lighting effects,
there probably does need some tweaking but AFAIC the room is now done and waiting to be christened with a party.
Not 100% happy with everything, but mostly happy, due to getting laid off additional lighting plans are on hold.

But my DD and her friends should have loads of fun in a "faux" niteclub

Hard to DJ with no crowd feedback :)

Thanks all for your indulgence

and do post any comments to youtube or below

bye yall
