This is cut and pasted from another forum I visit.... Now that I have read this, I will never again wonder about my price ( which I do think is fair, BTW ).....

My dd7 is having her communion in May - we booked a restaurant for the party a few months ago, and I just called a guy to come do some balloon sculpures as entertainment for the guests. Well he is booked solid for april and may - I feel so bad - this guy and his apprentice are amazing, they make balloon sculptures of all the disney princesses, all cartoon characters, flower bouquets, ect... I really wanted to have something different. I should have called earlier. I told my dh that he better learn how to start twisting balloons - at $300/hour that's unbelievable money!!!

Cool! That's a unique art form.

If he can twist balloons into Disney characters for a room full children, then that's what it costs.

If she wants someone to twist balloons into Disney characters for her room full of children, then that's what it costs.

Papa, what others are doing and getting shouldn't concern you. You said it yourself. You have a fair rate. There are just too many variables and factors to try to squeeze every service provider into the same bracket.

That's why price/worth threads are completely subjective.

Hank, I'm not concerned... In fact I feel more justified now... And, as per, ADJR ( of which I am a member ).... I would never presume to tell anybody what they should charge. I am blown away by the cost, in that I would never pay that.

I would pay someone $300.00 with a talent for balloons. If you ever blown up balloons yourself even with a pump, its not that easy. Theres alot of work involved.

Thats just it some people will never understand why someone will pay, what seems to be an outlandish amount for services or goods. Everyone has a different sence of whats important and has worth. For weddings, some people place importance on flowers and will pay >$6000.00, some people will only fork out $800.00

You as the person supplying the goods or services have to figure out who you want to market to. Do you want to serve the $800.00 flower market or the >$6000.00 market. For everyone there is somebody, but to supply services to the higher end market you have to have certain skills.

Balloon sculpture is indeed a learned art. Not unlike music entertainment, it isn't as easy as the pros make it seem.

Have you seen these folks at state fairs and carnivals? They sit there all night creating balloon sculptures for say, $4.00 apiece. People pay it. An experienced artist can crank 'em out in under a minute. That's 60 per hour on average. Six hours at the fair or carny and this guy has raked in some serious dough for a night's work. And it's all cash.

$300.00 for a private party... that ain't a bad paycheck. :)
