So, I'm about to buy a new laptop and I was going to get one with windows XP which is getting harder and harder to do. I found a nice laptop at Office Depot today with the features I want, but it has Windows Vista Home Premium. I know the first Service Pack for Vista is due out soon and will probably fix most of the most important Vista bugs, but...

I use autokj with the Pacemaker plugin and I've gotten used to it. If I get a Vista laptop am I going to be OK? Any known incompatibilities between autokj and Vista?

I like autokj+pacemaker because I use the tempo change feature a lot. Most Karaoke software can change the key, but not all of them allow you to adjust the tempo.

Right now I'm not using autokj for hosting, I'm just using it to play my Karaoke tracks for my singing act so I haven't even explored the hosting features yet.

Well, winamp/autokdj have shut off several times and are now unistalled. Other people may be having no problems with VISTA but I did and now I'm done with it.

I was reluctant to even install it on my brand new laptop. It was the first and only media player/karaoke software installed. There was no other programs installed onto this machine it was clean and fresh, just Firefox and AVG. The laptop of course came with WMP pre-installed with windows. The search continues.

Don't feel bad I've had problems with several other programs in the past.

Check the autokdj forums I know folks have discussed the Vista situation and it should work as long as you have the latest winamp version.... which I assume you did... what version of autokdj did you install? the latest is 1.4b.

Check with toqer he may have an answer for the why and or a fix. Be sure to note this on the autok forums as a potential bug...

Trust me, I took great pains to install every new windows update including SP1, I got rid of anything that would sap resources and turned stuff offf that I didn't need.

I'm very familiar with autokdj, I've been using it for over a month for 2-5 hours a day several days a week. I installed the most recent version and the most recent version of winamp too.

After that fiasco I decided to give Karafun another try and so far it's rock solid. No crashes or glitches of any kind whatsoever. I feel like a dad gum beta tester, sheesh.

One thing I really liked about pacemaker is that it could remember my tempo and key changes for every song once I had them set the way I liked them. I have almost 300 songs I am practicing, probably around 200 that I can sing in public, only a handful that I know the lyrics for without looking at the screen. Eventually when I learn lyrics I'll just use the MP3s and won't really have to worry about a Karaoke player anymore except for hosting.

I know a couple of people who use Virtual DJ for Karaoke, I need to look into it and see how it works etc.

Wiz:

Are you running winamp in XP compatibility mode? I think you gotta right click on winamp, properties, compatibility options, and select it.

I switched to Karafun and used it again today for about 2-3 hours without a single problem of any kind. It's way easy to learn and use. Unless I have problems crop up, I'm done looking.
