I read the threads of how everyone is so happy with their new equipment purchases.

I am bummed to find at this current moment there is nothing I honestly need to buy. My systems sound great I have more coverage in different setups than I need. I can fit any application of the events I am currently booking. I have upsales and add-on in lighiting and a nice projector and screen.

In the past I have purchased new speakers and amps every 3 years, I checked the dates I'm not due to March 2010. I thought I was due this year. Looks like I need to take more assessment and wait and see if I even need to replace them next year.

I'm gearing up for a few nice vacations this year instead of new equipment purchases. Who knows once those summer wedding checks start rolling in I may find a need for something.

How long does everyone reasonably expect gear to last?

Do you replace things cause you want new gear or cause it is needed?

I buy stuff I want, I replace stuff when needed and I find that most "reliable" gear when handled, run, cleaned and cared for properly will last well into a decade (sometimes two or three).

Most of my recent purchases (those made within the last 5 to 10 years) have been made to down size the systems I use. Like buying light weight "plastic" speakers for mains, lighter weight amps etc. have been made more for my aging than an equipment need!

I use to buy what I wanted, now I buy only what I need. I hope to get at least 5 good years out of both of my current systems. I will be adding a set of speakers and another sub this year.

Cam,

Feel free to buy all the equipment you want and donate it to me - I am more than will to make the trek to your house to pick it up!

Every 3 years for an Amp? I'm at 8 on my Crown and 9 on my QSC - no complaints. Just like Thunder said, keep it clean, it will treat you right.

Now mixers and CD players - I don't think I'll buy another CD player.

And my laptops, I replace every three years (with a fresh XP install every year).

I buy when I get the bug or when I need something.

I will up-grade if I find something new that I don't really need, but would do a better job.

Virtually forever. We buy gear that will last the long haul. We are just in the process of replacing our 20 year old fast fold screens. Thanks Ben.

We replace things when there is a measurable advantage; it could be performance, it could be a better option than repairing the old, it could be better features or even more appropriate for loading in the semi. There are a vast number of reasons. Rarely is it an impulse buy.

We are actually nearing the bottom of our 'wish list'. About the only thing left is a pretty hefty investment; a new lighting controller. Hoping to keep it under 5 figures. :sqerr:

Good luck in that project!!!

I know from our discussions that you would like a new light board, that is bigger.
And it may or may not fit in the back of my mini van!!!!:sqlaugh::sqlaugh:

A good place to keep an eye out for the board your looking for...

I am kinda the impulse <sp> buyer, I try not to but my wife keeps pointing things out to me!!!:sqerr::sqerr:

Gotta love that woman:sqlaugh::sqlaugh:

I buy only what I need I try to get the most out of what I have already.

I used to buy what i wanted, but even then my purchases were limited. Right now I'm paying off a loan for a better speaker that i purchased, and this will have to last me until it no longer works.. I'm hoping that's at least five years if i take care of it.

At least I'm not having problems with the second hand wireless mic I bought. Best purchase I've ever made in my entire life. heheh

anyway take care all
