6 years after I purchased the Numark CDN 90, last night I lost the left hand player. It outlasted my Denon 9000 by two years and I was disappointed that it couldn't make it to 10.

Still have my older AMDJ unit but I will miss my CDN...........................:sqfrown:

I'm sure you checked but the plug didn't fall out of the controller did it? I have the CDN 95 and I've had the cord fall out of the left side controller a couple times.

Actually I did check, but honestly it stopped working in the middle of a gig so it wasn't being bounced or jostled around any.

I suppose that something that old isn't worth the cost of getting fixed or may be too old to be repaired?

I figured the laser pickup went out on it, if the left side went the right isn't far behind it. I believe that their are repair parts available for it and I am checking into it now

Brother Steve,

Perhaps it's time to upgrade to a Pio dually CD rig. It's time to spend some of that rusty money. ;)

Truth be told I am also fully digital so I can get by without it but I like to have CD capabilities when I am DJing (and I like mixing and beat matching and just can't accomplish this on any thing but tables and decks)!

Huh! :sqeek: What DJ Program/Software are you using?

Houston,

I am not saying you can't do it on digital systems I am saying you can't do it properly! Even mixing and BMing on CD decks leaves a little to be desired over tables. What programs are you using?

Traktor is what I am using. I can beat mix, slip cue and blend on Traktor. Anything I used to do on turntables I can do on Traktor, including manual scratching! (I hate scratching) Hell! Traktor Studio 3 has four decks! Try playing them all at once! See a demo on 4 decks YouTube - Using Traktor Dj Studio 3.2.2 with 4 decks

Then what you want is a Denon HD 2500. I'm thinking of picking up a second one.

I thank all of you for your suggestions but the one thing that seems to be passing everyone by is the fact that the CD players also act as backup in the face of the computer system going down.

I am not going to go out and spend $500+ for a DJ program to do what I can easily do on a CD player system which also gives me backup in case of a computer failure. Even with one side down on the CDN I still had the capability of playing and beat matching from the digital song to the right hand side of my CDN. Had the computer gone down as well I still would have had at least the one CD player while I hooked up my back up laptop!

CD based here too Steve. I feel ya....but I'm also feelin' the Numark NS7 too...but I have yet to figure out if I can enable the phaser/echo/flange stuff my Numark Axis 9's currently have.....or how to get something working inline with the NS7 that can give me the capability....

For not much more you can have the 2500. And should one side go down you can still operate from the other including seamless mixing. In fact your entire show can be run from just one side.

Use what ever is comfortable for you, that's the most important thing. But I had felt the same way until I started with my laptop and now my Denon HD 2500. Two totally independent digital systems working together.

Try Dj Traktor 2.6

http://download.cnet.com/Traktor-DJ-Studio/3000-2170_4-10369281.html

From time to time you can find a legal copy for 50$

I'm still using this version and have no plans to upgrade for now.

Best mobile dj software, period.

I have been using the same plus the Studio 3 for many years now. I have tried a few others but have yet to find one that has all the bells and whistles that Traktor has. However, with that being said, there are DJs who use other DJ software and are quite happy with their choices. I can't claim it as the best because I have not tried them all. all i know is that i love it. I must say that Traktor can be quite intimidating with all the features it has.

Have you ever tried the 2.6 version?

It has a lot of user friendly options, especially for new djs, like one auto play button (you just click on your play list and auto play button), nice autofade feature, one basic interface with very simple customization options and the most important - very stable.

Quite easy to learn. Perfect for single operators.

I was pissed when they released the Studio 3,did not like it at all, Pro looks much better but the simple auto play and autofade option from 2.6 version is still missing.

As for the other software I'm not able to find anything better for my MOBILE gigs.

I agree! I have both versions in use. 2.6.1 and Pro

Ron,

The Denon 9000 was a wonderful unit after the bugs were worked out of it (Installed the update) the problem I had with it was it lasted just four months over the the warranty period, with less than half the use the CDN saw. The CDN was used at a minimum of once a week but most weeks it saw use two to three times. the Denon saw maybe an average of use once a month, and couldn't outlast the cheaper Numark product.

I have owned Denon before (yes way back when) and found them less than reliable when compared to AMDJ and Numark. I am talking about a Numark 6020 which was purchased used in 1993 (already three years old) and was still being used as a backup system in 2004, (yes that is 14 years that this unit functioned without problems). On the other hand I went through three Denon units in that same time frame, granted the Denons in this case saw more work than the Numark did after the first three years.
