I was able to find all of these except for the two I've marked I can only find on CD and just don't know if I have time to wait for them in the mail..... I'll be checking for the Beatles song as it is on the album A Hard Day's Night... but the Guadalcanal Diary.... I don't think I stand a chance of finding that one locally.

I wouldnt worry too much about it - play a lot of the snoozers during dinner/cocktails, and use the artists and genres themselves, rather than the exact songs chosen, to layout your dance sections.

In my process, your "Favorite songs" section seems to overlap with what I call "Play if possible" list. Meaning, and I tell them this so they dont EXPECT to actually HEAR all of them... "If you play it, great, if you don't you don't."

Of course I solicit a must play list as well, but it typically isnt all that long, or even if it is, is typically filled with stuff that is more traditional/current danceable fare.

As an aside, my wedding next weekend is along these lines... "Do Not Play List" = NO: Disco, Funk, Soul/R&B, Hip-Hop, or Beastie Boys (lol... lots of generic genres & them specifically... Remnants from a previous relationship maybe? We can only speculate.)

Might as well say "I don't want any dancing at MY wedding dagnabbit! Of course I should be able to make some brief moments of magic regardless, but come ON!

Sounds: You are right... the Favorite Songs list is a "Play if Possible" type of list.... and the Priority Requests is a "Must Play" list... there is some overlapping in the planner's so a couple of the songs will actually be played for the Ceremony and other reception traditions. Example: The Riddle - Five For Fighting is their Recessional song.

Here are some of the basic notes the client has left for me:

My fiance and I are looking for music and a microphone for our ceremony. For our reception, we would like to have our first dance, and a father/daughter dance. We are looking for just easy listening music for the reception. We are not looking for a dance party, just nice smooth music that couples can dance to and is just playing softly in the background.
We are not really interested in lighting as well. Is this something we can request of you? Our wedding is outdoors, and we want it to be a peaceful receptin. We would love to hear back from you with your thoughts and rates. Thanks so much!

(grooms name) and I would like the evening to feel romantic, but we also want the atmopshere to be energetic and that people are feeling happy and wanting to participate in slow and fast dancing. We trust your ability to help us with the songs we have chosen, and would welcome any input you have. The one additional request we have is that we don't want it to feel like a "dance party" but we want people to have a really great time. We would like to have just the two of us introduced and not our wedding party as we make our entrance into the reception.

Someone poke me.... LOL

But, who knows this could be exactly what their guests like too.... they are in their mid-30s so who knows....

When I get lists like that I always tell them thanks and say something like... "would you like your guests to request music?"..... and that opens the door to Brick House and all that other good stuff...

The list has a lot of country. I'd go through your music library and find country waltzes. I'd also find cha chas, foxtrots and waltzes.

The Beatles "And I Love Her" is a cha cha. It's possible this crowd may be into ballroom. It wouldn't hurt to ask her.

Hah Hah Hah!!!

Rob,

You think YOU'VE got it bad?! Let's go!!

For our July 18th wedding, we are pretty much being programmed. Read the attached file of our playlist (we can change the order, whoopee!). :sqwink:

Also, note the extensive Do Not Play list....:sqerr:

That's nothin' you should have seen the 10 Hour.... yes you read that right 10 hour must playlist.... for a 6 hour event.... LMAO.... we deviated quite a bit once the bride realized her guests had different ideas... good list mind you... but... not all crowd pleasers....

That's pretty good. I'm glad that your bride gave you some leeway at the event.

Our groom will not allow us to deviate from the list AT ALL. As far as the guests are concerned, to him the guests' requests are just that: requests. :sqlaugh:

Some of the music I thought I'd never heard... I've actually heard and forgot about... like Photograph by Camper Van Beethoven... which is on their planner... and Life Is Grand also by Camper Van Beethoven....

I pluged the Guadalcanal Diary into pandora.com and seems to be a Kinks/Cure type of music.... New Wave Punk of the 80s.

I was a rocker back then and the Punk scene wasn't my thing.... but, I'm older now and can appreciate this style... just not so sure about it at a wedding... we'll see what the crowd says.

Wow sounds like you're heading for an early ending evening....

there is always some "hard ass" bride or groom who thinks because its their day everyone must fall in place of what "they" want.its so sad when we think selfish in situations like this.if guests request are just "request" then dont invite anyone to your wedding period.

And I Love Her - Beatles (I don't have this and need this one too)

I believe I have that one if you are stuck Brother Rob

Don't you just love contradictions?

How can you decipher what they want, based on these emails? They want everything, and they want nothing.

Rob you get the beatles one yet ??

let me know ok

"And i love her" is almost like the perfect slow song at a wedding. It's slow, romantic, everyone knows it, and the classic rocks fans in the crowd like it too. I play it a lot.

other beatle songs that I play a lot during dinner cocktail:

Something
Here comes the sun

Side note: My wedding last night, the bride and groom did not put in one request besides their song, father-Daughter, Mother-Son. Dance floor was full all night. Dance floor got super jammed packed when I played a line dance, so obviously I played more and they all worked. When the bride was thanking me at the end of the evening, she said that I played every one of her favorite line dances. She was amazed that not only did I know her favorite line dances, but played them all. I didn't wan't to burst her bubble and tell her her fav line dances just happen to be everyone elses favorites too. I just let her go on thinking I was a genius.:sqwink:
