I'm trying to decide which way to go. As part of my expansion plans, I have purchased Rockit, and need to buy a new controller to go along with it. I definitely want to stay to a rack-mounted setup.

I'm considering either the Denon 2500 which appears to have its own hard drive but I want to know if it can also control Rockit; or the Denon 4500 which is strictly a controller, albeit with built-in usb sound devices to avoid purchasing a separate/different audio card.

Your experience and opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

C:>

I'm very happy with the 4500 and Rick mentioned that it works great with Rockit. I would wait to see what he thinks works best with the software.

Keyboard and mouse, IMHO

Allegedly, the 2500 uses basically the same MIDI commands as a 4500, more or less (from what I've been told by Denon). The display is obviously different, and Rockit would have no way to talk to the 2500 display (the 4500 display is actually hard coded into Rockit).

Having said that, I don't have a 2500. Jon was supposed to help build a mapper with me, since he has one -- but since he's still in rehab over the speaker thing, it hasn't gotten done yet :D

Be aware -- the 4500 sound cards, can only be seen as a single out in Rockit, since it requires ASIO to use dual outs. Sounds awesome though.

Rick,

Are there any plans in the future to incorporate ASIO? If not, am I still stuck running multiple (USB?) sound cards with Rockit?

Not today -- I'm working on my theater room (it's taken me 3 beers, and a glass of rum, to try and decide where to hang Shakira's poster) :)

Nah -- you could use Firewire if ya like :D

Don't know what the future holds...

You could always use a Gigaport HD -- Rockit shows 4 stereo outs on that (only on 32 bit OS though). They have enhanced WDM drivers that allow it.

Rick,

So I went to Fry's to see what kind of workstations are available... it seems almost all the new workstations are going 64 bit. Are you planning to upgrade SoftJock to 64 bit?

Thanks,

umm I think Rick has mentioned his software works proper on 64 but perhaps he was meaning the next version. Im pretty certain though that the current version works on it properly.

Not at the moment -- I mean, it is developed on a 64 bit machine, but it's kept as a 32 bit app to be backward compatible, and works fine on both platforms.

If I did a 64 bit only version, then I'd have to maintain two separate programs -- at this point, I see no great benefit in doing that, as Rockit is light on resource usage, and probably wouldn't benefit much...

You definitely have a point. Rockit *IS* very light on usage. Now if I could only get it to play nice with my boat anchor!

This brings tears to my eyes. I had the chance to buy a 2500 or a 4500 off of a buddy of mine exiting the business, with RockIt fully in the back of my head as the likely software package I was going to use, and I just took delivery of the 2500 yesterday!

If what Denon told me is correct, you should be able to modify the 4500 mapper in Rockit, to use with the 2500... Probably only basic button and slider control though.

i have the denon hc4500 using vdj..now carlos are you willing to change using programs? rockit is 150 compared to 300 for the vdj software.. and it is flawless on my controller...no hicups at all...
