If you're interested in test driving the new Office you can get free 60 day trial of Office professional here. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/ee390818.aspx You will need a passport ID (hotmail or MSN email address). You cannot install it over a current office install though so test it out on a secondary machine.

I haven't used MS Office in so long. I had a copy of Office 2003 but lost it in a format. For what it's worth my favorite office version was '97. I also tried Office 2007 a couple of times and thought it was only okay. Office 2010 is really nice. Word feels smooth and intuitive, I haven't mucked around with the other apps yet. My needs aren't that great I've been using Open Office for quite a while but I can see myself buying a home license in the near future.

The really nice thing about this new version is for those of us who don't need Outlook the Home and Student version will be allowed to be installed on 3 machines for $149 or $119 depending on if you want a boxed product or download it. That's a great value in my opinion. (Source: http://blogs.technet.com/office2010...office-team-will-be-talking-about-at-ces.aspx)

ok Dan one question..

Can you send Documents to people if you forget to make the extension a .doc not docx ?

because a lot of businesses are now getting in to trouble with the old files that need up dating and once the convert them and try sending them to thier clients most still dont use 2007 or 2010 yet still 2003

you know how incompatable users are they dont look to save it as a 2003 version
they just save as and whatever it saves as then thats it (bad move)

anyway far as I see if people want to use it then fine - I just say dont complain if you cant use it on a cross compatability way :)

Trouble is you try tell that to some of the die hard clients I deal with

most have no idea how to do anything
as soon as they cant do one thing they are on the phone to me to use logmein.com
and then fix the problem that a 5 year old could have fixed

oh well I just have to keep going and do what I can

Doh! I wish I had thought of the launch events earlier...the one in Indy was last week. I went to the MS Office 2007 launch event in Indy a couple of years ago and got a free copy of Office Pro 2007. There was no trial period; it was just free. I have it installed in my current computer and I still use it. :)

Are these people your revenue stream? I'd be happy to accept their money for such simple support.

Dan, we STILL use Office 97 at my house. If fact, I have it on this brand spanking new laptop. We paid $500 for it, and it still works just fine. So far I / we have had no reason to upgrade.

no actually they arent (thank god)

but its annoying that they call and want it done there and then
(even when I am out at another job) but they have to wait like anyone else

its just some things that they do are so basic and it annoys me but they call me its a service fee so its $$$ in my pocket

its what some people are like

now I am going back to replace this m/board and get these hard drives sorted... cya later
