If you're interested in test driving the new Office you can get free 60 day trial of Office professional here. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/ee390818.aspx You will need a passport ID (hotmail or MSN email address). You cannot install it over a current office install though so test it out on a secondary machine.
I haven't used MS Office in so long. I had a copy of Office 2003 but lost it in a format. For what it's worth my favorite office version was '97. I also tried Office 2007 a couple of times and thought it was only okay. Office 2010 is really nice. Word feels smooth and intuitive, I haven't mucked around with the other apps yet. My needs aren't that great I've been using Open Office for quite a while but I can see myself buying a home license in the near future.
The really nice thing about this new version is for those of us who don't need Outlook the Home and Student version will be allowed to be installed on 3 machines for $149 or $119 depending on if you want a boxed product or download it. That's a great value in my opinion. (Source: http://blogs.technet.com/office2010...office-team-will-be-talking-about-at-ces.aspx)
