I did an elementary school dance last night at my kid's school. About 125 kids in attendance. For my desk, I ditched the table and now have everything mounted inside a 16-space (vertical) rolling rack unit with an SKB AV-try on top to hold my laptop. I also built out a 3-panel lighted facade and am using a colorstrip to light it. This was the first time out and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this new setup. All my misc cables and projectors store inside the rack and just roll into my trailer. Big improvement.

On the projectors, I bought 2 pieces of 60"X9' spandex from spandexwarehouse.com ($30 each). Had channels sewn along each long end and inserted 2 10' crossbar sections. I then mounted these onto 3 6' vertical poles and pulled it tight at the bottom. By the way, these would easily stretch to 7' or 8' (vertically). I put these on the elevated stage and shot them from behind. On the left side, I shot my standard Live-Pics/Texting setup and on the right side I put some ambient DJ vids to an SD card (thanks Hank) and used a Micca SD player to have them run in a loop all night. My wife played gatekeeper and let the kids go back and shadow dance behind the right-side. BTW, DO NOT try this without a gatekeeper. She said had to keep them off my projector.

This was a freebie (my wife works there) so I used it to try out a new idea. I was pleased with the result. Here are some pics (sorry I don't have any shots of the new desk):

i echo the post of DJ Deuce. i have 2ea of DJ Screens and i like (no love) yours - screens that is:triwink:
i may have to "borrow" your idea, if you don't mind:trismug:

on a side note (hopefully no derailment) all my schools (lunchrooms) have at least 2 to 4 banks of lights in the cieling that are hard wired on (due to firecodes). do (did) you (or anyone else) have this problem? it just kills my light show.

once again cool show.

Same here, Jim but that don't stop us from throwing the breakers off at the box. :triwink:

But...but...but they tell me that the lights are "hard" wired!!!! and can't be turned off.
we did drop the panel and put a black plastic bag over it at one school, but the ceiling was low.

oh well cring in my beer --- ugh soft drink:trismug:

Fortunately, at this school they aren't quite the sticklers for following all the rules. Man, what a kill-joy to have to try and do an elementary dance in full light. The only thing worse would be if they told you to not bring a bubble machine because it'd make the floor too slick. :triwink:

i don't have a bubble machine:trisad: never had a request for one.

smoke machine -- now i have 3 ea and haven't used one in over 8 years.

i didn't like the attitude of the fire chief when i emptied the Hilton in downtown Macon one night  he was right i was wrong!!!!

But i really didn't want to accomplice him downtown as he was suggesting:tribiggrin:
however he let me off with a warning:tricool:

only used them a couple of times since that night.

since that time i have incorporated the following (which i "borrowed")

Venue-Client Permission to Use Fogger-Hazer.doc

if i ever had a calling again.

We do most of the schools in our area, and at schools where they have the round neon lights that stay on for security, we just climb up a ladder ( in the schools where the roof isn't too high ) and we Loosen the bulbs just enough that they turn off, and then at the end of the event you just need to make sure you remember to screw them back in ) Hope this helps ya! We do this at about 6 of the schools we play at

Great minds think alike Rick, nicely done.

I have been employing the same idea for the past six months using pipe and drape components, the only difference is I sew a pocket on all four sides and have been a satisfied Dazian Trapeze (screen material) user for several years.

I used the following picture for my inspiration minus the curve and another good DJ friend confirmed he had been using this method too.

I've made several size screens and with a variety of pipe lengths can make any custom size I need to fit the application.

Rick, very nice setup indeed, one question,

It seems you used 2 tops per side, is this correct?

What was your sound setup

Thanks

At the risk of raising houston's separation anxiety:triwink:................no, that's 2 EV ZXA1s, mounted on a dual adapter which is mounted into an EV sba760. I fan the speakers so they don't phase-cancel. Works fine for most of my situations and is an easy setup.
