Just curious what your style is with your weddings. I've seen everything from guys who lead dances, to those who just cue up classic/generic wedding song after wedding song and let it rip. Yes, I might find ya'll in this group to be cheesy...But beyond song selection and setup, what makes you...you? Dance instructor? Mic Personality? Scratch artist? Ipod filled with songs tagged 'wedding'? Just kidding :tritongue:

I stay off the mic for the most part and actually do the beat matching and scratching and mixing (electric feel-stayin alive-yeah-one that i want combo ftw) and let the music drive the show.

witty commentary.
finding just the right (or wrong) thing to say at just the right time.

and that doesn't mean my gums are flapping constantly...
I am usually pretty silent, at least until I know what I can get away with!

Awww, sad to see this got no love because I really am curious about what ya'll bring to the table. I look up to a lot of you, being younger and less experienced and curious like a kid who cracks open old watches...err no offense? Too embarassed to open up a bit mates? ;)

Beat matching is fine and good but if you start to scratch at a wedding it should be because you have an itch not because you are at a wedding

I will have to respectfully disagree. This is the purpose of the thread, to chat a bit about what makes you, you because there are several ways to skin a cat when it comes to good wedding DJ's, but for those of us in the crowd who are not technical wizzes with the lights and are there to entertain with mashing, mixing, and really art that transcends an ipod...you are wrong.

Not sure if ya'll smash links on sight, but here's an example of one of the best wedding dj's in the country showing why scratching is more than a little ok at a wedding.

Thanks for posting that video. You just made my point. That was brutal and I doubt he does that at weddings, in fact looks like he's doing that in his bedroom. You think folks in the 30-50 range will enjoy that? Doubt it. Truly awful. I'll follow this with a smiley face so as not to appear too mean :)

there is a time and place for everything.to each their own, scratching is just not my thing period.

what about us 50+? I liked it but wouldnt expect it to work at a wedding unless it was all young folks or myself at the party. Especially alot of stuffy mobile DJs!!:triwink::triwink:

my experiance at weddings is after the jazz for the dinner hour and first dances out of the way, its play to the older folks first because they are the first to leave, then step it up to motown, disco, then its wide open for todays generation, usually works, unless the parents are more into it than the kids,

And what's up with the rainbow brite table cover? I also think his speakers were definitely not spread!

I agree with the age "thing"....
most weddings I do cover ages from pre-teen to grandparents.
the only people who would truly appreciate scratching are in the 18-30 year old range
and that doesn't guarantee they'd like it at a wedding...
and it certainly doesn't mean they would feel left out
if they heard the same songs at a wedding, WITHOUT the scratching

not knocking anyone's skills or talents...
just stating my experience at weddings
