Tommy,
You asked for an opinion so I'll give you mine. When a prospect asks me to send them a list of songs/genre/whatever I often wonder ...why? What if you are going to be judged only by what you send? It will be better for you to generalize by replying "I have artists like (Such and such) and Songs like (such and such)". When you send a finite list and it may unluckily not have a few of the songs for which they are looking, you could possibly be blown out of the water.
Take Control my friend, take control. A good salesman always answers a question with another question. "Tell me Miss. Jones, what specifically are you looking for in those songs?" Once you have a more precise answer you know what step to take next! Capiche!

Well, they were a client at the time and not a prospect.

When we got together for their finalization I mentioned certain play lists I have and they asked for them. To me, the client was asking for information and it was clearly understood that they wanted to use this to help guide them in selecting music.

Then I apologize but I was thinking Prospect based on your thread title "This just in..."
It is my fault I should have asked "Is this a prospect or a client?" before answering.:sqlaugh:
See what happens to even me when I don't follow the preachings! :sqeek:

So, what do you think of their selections?:sqwink:

If someone would ask me for that kind of list I would be sure to include some Glen Miller stuff and the like along with what you already have on the list. Can't think too clearly now as I have a meeting to attend and then my Monday night rental gig!

I just put up a copy of mobile beat's "Top 200" list on my website. A client would get referred to this page. A prospect would get an answer like this:

"I have practically everything with the exception of hispanic. I receive a weekly, professional DJ subscription of the latest hits and also maintain a live internet connection at all events. The online system has 9+ million songs available."

I've never had a prospect yet that found that answer insufficient.

and also maintain a live internet connection at all events. The online system has 9+ million songs available."

I'd be careful with this. How are you maintaining your 'live' connection at "all" events? Are you supplying the connection? What happens when you're in a bad connection area?

PS: I just realized this was from 7 / 2010. Sorry for reviving an old comment.

I think I would still use the "ask a question with a question" logic because really, we want to know what they're looking for. I also agree that you don't want to be called out for your music. Some of these threads get resurrected because of where they show up on the list.

Do you realize that this is a Ghost Thread?:tribiggrin::tribiggrin:
