Hi guys I am new to the forums and new to DJing in general. Kinda got put in a position of buying a complete setup in less than a week. Here is what I got. Toshiba Satellite-1402 laptop going out to a Numark DJio into a Peavey PM ONE mixer. Feeding the mixer into a QSC GX5 and out to a set of Peavey PV115's. Should have my other GX5 and Peavey PV118 subs next week. Having a hard time finding a case I like. Needs to be a 10u slant top with 6u front. I know this isnt top notch stuff but I feel like it sounds really nice. Compared to my dads setup that is running JBL active 15's I think it outperforms them on every level. Any input is more than welcome positive or negative. I really want to know if I screwed up. Thanks in advance.

I was told to stay away from the injection molded cases because they are slippery. I actually was about 2 seconds away from buying one locally and the salesman talked me out of it. Any comments on the setup people?

Slippery???? I don't have a problem with slipperiness... there's enough weight in mine even without amps. I employ the SKB R106 with the SKB 1906R rolling 6U rack.... if slippage were a problem you can easily glue rubber feet or even use the rubber shelf liner below the rack between the table and rack.

They are certainly not as road worthy as ATA type cases and the weight savings, on the smaller units, is negligible. I own two and they serve as cases for the backup gear. Both have less than 10 hours actual use.

Have had the same several dozen Road Ready/Custom ATA amp and gear cases for more years than I'd care to admit, several since 199cough 5, cough. I replaced two SKB/Gator ABS mixer/amp cases in one two year period. Never again. It could have been partially the result of the heat we have in NOLA but my Road Ready cases handle it just fine!

Of the plastic gator amp cases I own(ed), most were given away with some older Peavey amps I sold. I would never again use a plastic case for anything with any real weight.

However, if given only the choice of carpeted wood cases and ABS, I'd choose ABS in a heartbeat. Carpeted wood was the bane of my existence in the 80s.

plastic cases just look, well plastic. Like plastic speakers look plastic. The look of polished corners and slats, rails etc ooze professional my opinion and many others. I will suck up the extra 5 pounds difference. if you are going to hide behind a facade it really doesnt matter what you have gear contained in.

I would disagree... certainly they look professional but, so do my SKB cases.... in fact I'd say not only do they look professional but they scream high tech... with today's up-to-date look and feel.... I have no need to hide them behind a facade either..... I'd stand loud and proud in front of any crowd.

Where is your processing? EQ, Crossover etc. What type of gigs are you planning on doing?

I've also used both ATA Road Ready type cases, SKB's and Gators. I'm ok with each. Having said that, they all look professional but my Road Ready does look the most professional of all of them. It's also heavier than all of them. The Road Ready's currently taking a break.

Mixer has 7 band eq and my amps have a crossover circuit built in at 100Hz and below for channel 1 and 100Hz and above for channel two. So for the time being when I get my other GX5 and subs one amp will be for right side and the other for left side. Giving 500 watts to each moniter and 500 watts to each sub, leaving good headroom from the amps. I will start doing house parties and hopefully some small bars around here. Once I can afford lighting I would love to get into weddings. Oh and I got my case today and a Shure PM48 mic. Ended up with a decent deal on a odyssey case. I cant figure out how to post pics or else I would put one up of my case loaded.

Good Luck!

I plan on adding and upgrading as I go. I am working on a very tight budget so I have to be careful at first. Of course I plan on getting an add on eq/efx processor and such. The wallet just isn't thick enough at this time. Everyone needs to start somewhere though right?

Have you considered renting or partnering with an established company to benefit all involved, you, them, the client?

Finally got to hook everything up and put it through its paces. Sound is pretty good overall actually. and if you factor in what I spent on the whole setup the sound is fantastic. Plenty to fill a decent sized bar and not have to push it to its limits. Its a bit bright for my liking but is crystal clear and has some decent thump for not having subs. One thing I dont like is the EQ on my mixer sucks! It drops the output by quite a bit and just dont sound good at any setting. That being said, Whats a good EQ/processor for the money? I cant wait to get the subs and other GX5!

I also have a pair of PV115's and they get the job done and after 1 gig are paid for. I have performed 6 weddings with them and all of my surveys/feedback have been 10/10 for sound quality. They even held thier own at a sweet 16 and sounded great! They do not have a lot of bass, but can get the job done without a sub. However I just purchased a new SP118 sub and driverack pa+ to make up for the lack of bass.

You can get 1 SP118 for cheaper than 2 PV118's. The reviews on the pv118's were not full of enough positives, plus everyone who seems to own them are also trying to sell them. The PV118 are covered in carpet while the sp118 is not. My only suggestion is to leave the PV118's at the store and buy 1 single sub with better qualities/features.
